Still waiting on the chassis so I've had a start on another shell lying about, much less dramatic this time, any mods I could make, suggestions very much welcome. I've got quite a few other 0-4-0s in various states, some just shells, some with chassis, and some that need quite a bit of repair, so I might aswell find a use for them allIMG_20220121_211528_hdr.jpg.fbd5adc2c0c02d086d9e40c46b8e0384.jpg

Didn't really do much else in the end so not much of a pugbash. But I do have a few more bodies to play with, so expect an actual pugbash from me fairly soon. Also got another 0-4-0 on the way as a birthday present but I'll be keeping that one as is besides basic details! For the time being I'll just have to keep myself happy with a ratio 4 wheel coach kit.. :)IMG_20220130_205341.jpg.b1bdcc14e2b46ea6c3a7f593b1834bf7.jpgIMG_20220130_173615.jpg.b13410829364e444c7dba0b4f736ebe5.jpg

Yes the HD starter set 0-4-0 came out in 1964, with 2 plastic wagons and a plastic brake van, its rare but not really valuable. About 1975 Dinky used the molding and brought out diecast push a long with 2 diecast open wagons.

By using the dicast body on a 1980's Hornby 0-4-0 chassis you get quite a good looking tank which due to weight pulls along a reasonable load, here's mine made a few decades ago

I like that, it has something of the LNER Y4 about it.

Here are a couple of pugs on my workbench at the moment. They await delivery of handrail knobs before I can complete them.

loving the cut out cabs , and the liveries. They remind me of the two 009 tram locos you made a few years ago .

had this pile of bits laying around and decided to use it to build a loco

here is the pile of rubbish I was working with (Notice the Nellie), although I did use a very healthy helping of plasticard, and nabbed some springs from one of the generic Hornby 0-6-0 08 chassis'

smash cut to a couple days later and I have this

Granted, if you put everything on a pie chart it would be about 35% Plasticard, 30% 3MT, 20% crane 10% Nellie and a bit of everything else, but I think there is enough Nellie in there to qualify for this thread

can see the build on my thread

Does it move?

Is there a prototype ?

sorry it took me a while to respond, as previously stated it has heavy influence from Isaac Watt Boulton, as well as a handful of other early loco rebuilds. I mainly took the idea of a 2-2-2 with a comically large saddle tank from Boulton and ran with it to try and make my own thing. the loco itself isn't based on any real loco, nor is it a real loco I have added parts to. its just a vaguely stephenson looking 2-2-2 with a tank strapped to it

It was due to go to e-bay this weekend, the green one being the one I would keep, but actually I think they're both staying put.

Very nicely done and we'll photographed

Somewhere there is a thread showing how it's done, the push a long chassis are usually quite common

“Somewhere there is a thread showing how it's done”

Wish I could find it - I’ve only gone and acquired one of these with a view to making something of it* and some hints as to how to go about that would be very helpful!

I’ve already spotted that front spectacles will need to be drilled out, as the original has a solid front to the cab!

* Just when I thought the urge to acquire/model small shunting engines had been quashed! Nurse - my meds!!

HOURS OF ANTICIPATED PUGBASHERY!

Note to self - bigger pipes to cylinders and replacement chimney!

Just a thought - does anybody have a photo of the innards of the Hornby/Joueff/Electrotren 0-6-0 outside cylinder tank engine, the chassis of which is used by Hardy’s Hobbies for their resin body kits? Wondering if there was any chance of that fitting inside the old Hornby Dublo/Dinky push along diecast loco body…

In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if someone hasn’t already done it! If so, please show us the results here!

I couldn't find it either prehaps pre 2010, so I've taken apart the one I've done,

Body - 2 large lugs which hold the dinky push along chassis, drill out the rivets to remove the chassis, file or cut away front lug  and thread the rear lug, you might to remove or file a small amount off

Looks like I added a few lead plate weights.

Chassis I've used a Hornby 0-4-0 chassis produced in the 1980's, looks like I removed something at the rear and fitted a bolt which fits into the body20220220_033655.jpg.5e074d1cf6f5dc74676ad6a08aa2fa7d.jpg

The front held on by a push fit of the cylinders looks like I filed a small amount off the chassis20220220_033810.jpg.a2203747b6935c472dbd6df598dffb6c.jpg

Kept the original coupling hope this helps
