pete_mcfarlane
Note the 'Rushton and Hornsby' misprint. Was somebody listening to 'I'm sorry I haven't a clue' as they typed the list?

leezer3
With regards to the HST conundrum, I ran across on a second-hand stall at an exhibition several years ago a pair of prototype HST power cars. My thoughts at the time were scratchbuilt, but this makes me wonder. Blue-grey livery, and IIRC somewhat dodgy paintwork but reasonably well built. Didn't purchase mind, so no images or anything.

andyman7
Checking the contents of said kits, some had the vac formed seats in the box, others didn't but had a note on the reverse of the instruction sheet. What do you reckon my chances are if I write off? 1

Quite solid chunks of white metal very reminiscent of MTK. Here is a cab grafted onto a Lima HST power car.

47164
It’s good to see the constant stream of MTK kits appearing on the well known auction site, and perhaps a shame that Phoenix Precision who now own all the various moulds of Colins efforts ,don’t release any items, but I can appreciate why they haven’t. I would agree that the HST prototype was probably the Genesis offering, being just the cabs , which do look the part when married up to either Lima off Hornby bodies, and I wonder who now owns the Genesis range.

RMweb Premium Northmoor Posted December 8, 2023 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 8, 2023 Outstanding work @Darius43 and probably unique, after all how many MTK Cl.306 kits were ever finished? I'm going to hazard a guess that despite over 40 years passing, this might be the first.

However, MTK dmus were quite common on the exhibition circuit before there was anything RTR, apart from the Tri-ang Metro-cammel and the Trix Trans-pennine. I built the kit for a BRCW dmu during that period - apart from concerns about fitting whitemetal end to the aluminium bodyshell, they were / are quite simple to assemble and, with a little refinement, surprisingly accurate. Just don't go for the MTK power bogie option. WHEN my MTK Park Royal twin set works its way to the top of the kit pile, I'll post a thread here. RMweb Gold Darius43 Posted December 8, 2023 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 8, 2023 Opened the box for this just now. All the MTK parts appear to be present. These were also in the box - Lima DMU bogies complete with pizza-cutter wheelsets. Plus this little gem… Suffice to say I won’t be using the Lima bogies/wheels or the MTK power bogie - John’s advice is well heeded. Cheers Darius 4

They ARE still available - directly from the producer in Oz. (Must check to see if I have one in stock for the Park Royal)! They all went to the same customer along with a lot of SR EMUs and some London Underground sets. I think most of these have been sold on now, it would be interesting to find out where they have gone. 2

Peters Spares was the last place I saw them available. I think they got the last of the stock. Got a pair of SR snowploughs from them fairly recently. Certainly within three years or so. RMweb Premium Michael Edge Posted December 9, 2023 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 9, 2023 No, they were scratchbuilt, only mentioned because it was the same customer for a lot of EMUs, mostly MTK kits.
