Does anyone know the first EWS / DB 66 to gain the updated LED light clusters? And if so when did it happen? Thanks

66040 in 2016 was the first one I came across, and if not the very first, it was one of them.

Unless you have been watching Picard on Amazon, you probably wouldn't know that character only couples up with the same class of rolling stock (I don't think yours Mike)

Class 66 Update August 2023 - Let There Be Light

66.jpg.06997b4fc2cc3870ec85345f44635969.jpg

Time for a quick update on our lovely Class 66, which has been progressing nicely though the Accurascale works! Having taken on the excellent Hattons Class 66 tooling, we documented how we made several tweaks to these models, unlocking more detail variations and taking on customer feedback.

This has been very well received. But, as some modellers pointed out, there was an extra yard we could go to to really bring the best out of our shed So we listened, assessed, designed and implemented some further tweaks on these already brilliant models to make them truly special.

20230801_094501.jpg.0f2482d07316d36613b7305dd919df9c.jpg

All lighting units have been revised. We were unsure about changing these early on for the EP and we held out to see what they looked like on the decorated samples. The size of the units have been changed as well as the internal light guides to give a better appearance. We also now have the option of both types of LED light cluster.

20230801_094542.jpg.0ecbf85a60b8cf3a6e915e8d85cb4d8e.jpg

The Freightliner green has been revised to the proper shade of green for this period. Previously the backing to the Freightliner logo on our first decorated sample was a different shade of green. In order to replicate this properly, we have used the same shade of paint with different gloss levels. It's very subtle but the camera flash shows it to good effect.

20230801_094807.jpg.df5ab1a2ea9adb2385dd74b9d448b020.jpg

Both styles of cab interior have been modelled, featuring either wrap around desk or central "pedestal".

20230801_095218.jpg.c22c04ef57362f72e68080d8b4c1c8c7.jpg

The correct shade of grey for the roof of the DB liveried locos has now been used.

Warning panel yellows have been tweaked. There are actually three different shades used over the period the 66 covers. Here are two of the them!

20230801_095445.jpg.7951d2e01f1f6ba23b365034faa883ce.jpg

We have tooled an additional buffer beam plate (centre) to correct the position of the lashing eyes on the first 200 EWS machines. 66001 (and 2's) unique arrangement can be seen on the left. and the later "standard" on the right.

20230801_095720.jpg.413e9238fdbfef83b0a8b0dc17230d5e.jpg

Among the other smaller and subtle tweaks we have also looked at and improved the fit of the handrails on the bodyside for the doors to give them a more realistic appearance.

20230801_095818.jpg.2208590fc09e41d2bd6f58d649cdf707.jpg

With all these tweaks in place we can now confirm that the production run is signed off and underway. Not only that, but we are still on course for delivery for Q1, 2024 as originally announced back in February.

Pre-order your ultimate Class 66 via our network of retailers, or direct via our website below, with no money down pre-ordering or monthly instalments at no extra cost available. Hi accurascale great work on the lighting units they look even better then before. I was on the fence before but now I'll be looking at getting 66004 with these lights improved. Nice to see the lenses done sit so far back aswell now.

Roll on the euro spec locos.

After previously mentioning about the LED light clusters (latest type on DB examples), as did a few others - it is refreshing to see Accurascale act on the feedback - they look so much better now. Well done - look forward to my examples arriving 😄

Have to admit I wasn’t expecting major alterations, can only add to the comments already posted here and congratulate you on making this model even better. Well done to all at Accurascale! Seriously looking forward to receiving the ones I have on order 😊

Well, this is dangerous!

As one of those who mentioned the original clusters, I really appreciate the changes - they look great!

At least the AS boxes are big enough to live in!

Wow…

love the light clusters,..

but serious kudos on the door hand rails…. It may seem trivial but on these you can see the bolts holding fixing the handles to the body!

100% on listening to feedback.

Thats ace!

As I missed out on the previous tooling, I was delighted when I heard Accurascale had aquired it and more models would be produced.  I was certain that the previously documented issues would be looked into and addressed, but what I wasn't expecting (or perhaps I should have) is to take them to a whole new level with even more detail.  It is also nice to see that feedback can be given and it is incorporated into the product.  I take my hat off to the team for their efforts and look forward to receiving my locos in due course. 😀

So then @Accurascale when should we expect to be able to order this little beauty? 😉

we seem to have 6 early series, only 3 later, maybe more later series to come ? - as for which one.. theres no shortage of candidates.

one hiding in plain site, doesnt preclude others in the shadows ?

These look really impressive.

I bought the Hattons original 66 528 Madge Elliot MBE because she is a prominent local here and her son is a member of our local railway society.  As I had no Freightliner stock to run it with I bought four Dapol HIAs.  As my Hattons loco has full detailing on one end and a coupling on the other end, the return trip of the HIAs is always worked by a non Freightliner loco.    I should put this right by ordering 66 507.    Sorely tempted now that I have seen today's photos, but I need to wait till next week to see where my railway fund stands after attending a model trains auction next Monday and selling some trains on eBay next week.

I’m not in the market for one of these but am really impressed in the way you have responded to constructive criticism. It’s a really strong message to send out to the market and bodes so we’ll for the future of the company.  From a very satisfied existing customer patiently awaiting a Manor and a green EE Type 3 arriving in the near future :)

Great news.

Genuine question here.

I can see the right loco in the image above is sitting slightly lower than the one on the left, but the roof seems to be considerably lower. Assuming they are both on the same plane (as they are similarly in focus) are some of these locos slightly lower in real life? (And nobody say it's a HO model 😀).

Apologies for the angles and appreciate your detective work but to lift the bodies up from my glossy shelf, the right hand side was propped on a Dapol 59 bogie packaging clip and the left one perched on a rock awnings pop up gazebo scissor section. They were what I had to hand at the time that were roughly the same size

I really must invest in some proper props!
