I'm there on Sunday on the Scalefour Society stand, trying to look intelligent and looking forward to discussing the pro's and con's of P4 modelling.🙂

Back home from a super day out at the show. Lots of chatting and catching up and some lovely layouts. I managed to miss Trerice completely and remembered that I wanted to look it up when I was half way home. Sorry Jerry!

Twas a grand day out indeed. If anyone is thinking of going don't think twice, some superb layouts and excellent traders. Oh and the steak pie was a triumph!

Car Parking was a little tricky, the signage was so low that it was obscured by a parked car. If you are going and assuming you have good mobility I recommend parking at the far end of the car park which is better drained and less "claggy" - to use a good Yorkshire phrase.

Well done and thank you all who worked so hard to put the show on.

Me and the boy went today and it was a great day out .

A high standard of modelling layouts and trade and demos.

Very friendly atmosphere, but I think the guy on the till at squires models has to be the nicest and most polite trader I’ve ever met .(he may be guy that owns it not sure )

had a great conversation with him about upcoming things from them

great show

Regards

Brian

Thanks Chris. What a cunning way to link!

Lovely quality set of pIcs and especially so, as I can't attend.

It’s long been my favourite show and this year’s done nothing to change that, a superb line up of layouts covering a wide range of scales and genres made it well worth the trek. Encouraging to see a lengthy queue on opening this morning, sign that the show is back to its best after a lengthy, enforced lay off.

Anyone looking for something to do tomorrow, head for York.

Credit to all those whose efforts make this institution of a show possible, we’ve lost a number of them in recent years which must increase the load on others, take a bow all of you.

I was told we’re in the vicinity - I thought you were avoiding me! 😊

York Show 2024 Day 1

Very nice, Chris. I appreciate that these are just the "rushes", but if you have a chance/time some captions would be good. There are some I know, some that speak for themselves but quite a few I've no idea about. I'd especially like to know more about the layout with Swallow, Amazon and Fram sailing around!

As if! You must have been tucked away in a corner somewhere as I went round all the different floors and levels and still missed you. Enjoy the rest of the weekend.

I went to the show yesterday, it was generally very good and well spread out across the 3 floors. I appreciate all the hard work and effort that goes in to putting on these events. There did seem to be a lack of general traders and more specialist stands, but I appreciate that people want to be able to pick up specific items at these shows. There was a nice selection of layouts across the gauges.

Setting off tomorrow with Colin Taylor in a big van to fetch the Leeds and Normanton club barriers; none from Warley this year as they don't have a van driver under 70. It's a familiar case; luckily, we can field two-Fred Ellis and the new floor manager, Colin Taylor. What a 'find' he was last year....turned up on Thursday to help for a day and stayed until Monday! He harks back to the Assembly Rooms in the 1970s, one of Bernard Richmond's Barrier crew. Here he is 45 years later.....going to fetch the barriers!

For our regulars-we are using gate 5 to enter the yard this year. I have asked for help from Constant Security for extra help marshalling vans/cars etc.

If you're setting up on Saturday morning, get here BEFORE 9:30am...we don't want cars milling around with the queue of visitors in the same place!

Welcome our new demonstrators: Brian Davis with wagon loads (his wife Susan will be helping the show!) and Thomas Petith with 3D printing.

New traders: Model Signs, MMR models and the return of PowerBond adhesives/Graham the Glue man.

We will be setting up the memorial stand to Ken Gibbons, Roger Ellis, John Ross and Colin McCallum, who by coincidence is on Steve Flint's video promoting the show.

Ah, and Rupert Brown has organised a rolling video to run on the plasma screens in the upper floor bars!

For our visitors:- I'm fetching the keys for the gates onto the Knavesmire for the overflow car park (it will be needed on Saturday!) Google Images attached.

Me? Edgy, nervous, same as before. If you see me during the show, please make reassuring noises; I'll be wandering around gibbering to myself!

Hi John, I hope everything goes smoothly- best wishes. I hope to get there in 2025. R

Went yesterday. First time I have been to York and it was definitely worth the journey. Thanks to everyone for putting it on. Was also nice to meet up and have a chat with Jerry and Gordon Gravett who was doing tree making demos.

Definitely not a box shifter show in terms of traders but it was a good thing to have something different to offer in that area.

I was drawn to the bigger layouts this time. Grantham was fun to watch but South Pelaw was as expected amazing. Definitely one of the best layouts on the circuit, because it's not just amazingly detailed and well done but it works flawlessly.

Very well worth attending.

My best mate Dave booked tickets for the show and we duly arrived yesterday ready to be inspired by the layouts and modelling on display and - maybe - pick up a few items.

It was quite busy when we arrived, which meant we skipped anything overly crowded and returned to them later. The larger layouts were impressive - South Pelaw as has previously been mentioned was stunning, but we both felt it would have benefitted from not having to run its curved end boards behind another exhibitor. Having said that, we have never had to plan an exhibition and fit layouts etc into a fixed space, so hats off to @john new and team.

What we both found, though, was although we found the larger layouts inspirational, it was the micro layouts which we spent longer at. Maybe, we reasoned, because those were both inspirational and achievable - whereas the behemoth “headliner” layouts are far less so to your “average” modeller.

All in all, a terrific show with lots of scales, gauges and locations (UK, USA, Australia, Japan, European) catering to all tastes. Comparing 3mm/foot to Hornby’s TT:120 was a revelation; the fact both of us were sorely tempted by O gauge is also a testament both to the layouts on display and the growth in O gauge RTR - only our previous investment in OO gauge held us back! 🤣

Best of all, I sourced appropriate nameplates for my mate’s new loco!

Once again, a massive thank you to the organisers, exhibitors and traders that made the show such a great day out.

Thanks for the positive comments on South Pelaw. We’re also a bit frustrated by the arrangement of barriers as well as the pillar out the front of the layout — some of the interesting new moves, such as the gravity powered brake van kip are completely invisible.

We're next out at Newcastle in November, so hopefully the end boards will be more visible then.

You were the highlight of the show for me.

For me the effect of the layout is almost to elevate me, the viewer approaching the layout, to the feeling of being a skylark soaring above a valley in the northern fells. The sinew like curves are utterly beguiling and on closer inspection not a single element dominates. In some layouts the scenery dominates or the rolling stock not here you have achieved a coherent image.

A triumph.
