Very much an LR today. Spent half the day shaking a bucket raising money for the RNLI and, wonder of wonders, the other half cutting the grass. I'm back on duty for the RNLI tomorrow, probably all day.

This one was in the harbour when we got back this afternoon. Not a regular visitor, but it puts in the occasional appearance. The town is in a state of chaos as Festival Weekend starts this evening. I hope Sunday is fine as it will our last free day for a while. Steph's family are descending on us for four days on Monday, we are then away for two days and hopeful will get back in time to greet friends from the UK who are staying for three days!

Enjoy the weekend.

And people think Class 70's are ugly....?

Cheers,

Mick

ooh err - a very, very late ER here.  Been wire strangling, ballasting and adding KD couplings to a couple of vehicles on "Grantham"

Cricket is bizarre (and not just the Test match Yorks V Durham is moving on apace as well - into the second innings for Yorkshire at the end of day 1).

Yes the swimmers etc are doing very well - I hope this continues into the Olympics next year.

Have a great Friday evening/Saturday - as for me I am off to Castleford for a match v Harrogate then Sheffield Utd v Doncaster (cricket that is!) on Sunday.

I now have recovered my sander and been to B & Q for more sanding sheets. I've hated that place ever since they put in all self service check outs but wonder of wonders they actually had a cheerful polite young lady on the till this morning. She actually made me smile which (I am told) is extremely difficult.

I suppose I had better start doing some work now I have the tools for the job.

Morning all,

Knackered Jock here after having the little ones until around 7pm, then cooking dinner. They were really good, with little Freddie 'helping' me with chores like cleaning the barbecue and replacing its cover, but sadly we are simply getting too old and unfit for more than a couple of hours at a time.

I haven't had a chance to catch up yet tonight, and hope to do so tomorrow so you can expect a rash of late ratings! I may start tonight but probably not for long! Meanwhile, the usual comments offered as warranted, especially to those battling illness or caring for a loved one who is.

After the little ones were collected by their father, I decided that some alcohol was called for and I've no doubt that Ian(Roundhouse) and some of the other beer specialist on here will have heard of 'The Kernel Brewery' on Spa Road, SE16 4QT. Our son, on his recent visit, brought me amongst other things, half a dozen half litre bottles of their 'Mosaic' Pale Ale. He recommended that I let it settle with the bottles stored upright, and being a bottle conditioned beer, to pour it carefully in front of a light to avoid drinking the yeast settlement residue. I'm normally a cider man since living in Cornwall in the seventies but I have to say that I found the bitter flavour very pleasant indeed - needless to say, the stocks are reduced, and at 5.4% ABV, it wasn't long before I felt better!

Hope the weekend is kind to you, and those of you daft enough to get very excited over football get the results you crave. I shall be concentrating on the Test Match (though probably not for long!) and of course my favourite motorcycle racing in the form of the MotoGP round at 'Indianapoli' in the USA.

Kind regards,

Jock.

Morning, the first Saturday of my weekend :locomotive:

Polly, we came across the 'Beetlecrusher' the nickname for the Caley dock tanks when running it at Strathaven (pro 'Straethern or something like that - Jock????) ME club a 'few' years ago.  They loved having a visiting Scottish engine, and she ran well every time we went there so she must have liked it too!

Neil, 'Strathaven' is pronounced 'Strayven'. About nicknames for 498 class tanks - just today, I read that they were known as 'Durie pugs' at Grangemouth shed. There was no explanation, though local names sometimes came from the companies whose sidings/yards engines worked.

Oh, dear.  You've really whetted the appetite now.
I just had to look that up.

will have heard of 'The Kernel Brewery' on Spa Road,

When I misread that as 'The Kennel Brewery" I wondered if it was "Guaranteed To Put You In The Dog House" :)

Some enterprising folks at a brewery in Utah brought out a beer to coincide with the Winter Olympics called "Polygamy Porter". The slogan - "Why Have Just One!"

Morning all.

We are off to Ljubljana to see the sights of Slovenia's capital city. It isn't a huge city, the population of the whole country is about 2 million people.

Forecast is for mid thirties Celcius. Should be a nice day.

Morning all.  Dull and overcast but somewhat warmer than of late with 13C forecast.  And it's finally stopped raining!

Unexciting weekend expected.  Things may become more "interesting" as of Moan-day morning as the workforce has voted 98% in favour of taking protected industrial action.  Fact duly reported.  The No-politics rule will be adhered to.

There is (or was?) a Kennel brewing in the USA but just cant trace their website if they have one

However Kernel in Bermondsey do some wonderful beers. Not been on the Bermondsey Beer Mile crawl yet despite working so close to these breweries but most are only open Saturdays and we are normally elsewhere.

We werent far away form there last  ight when we visited the Brockley Brewery but unfortunately they only do takeaway on friday nights with hteir protable bar only being open on Saturdays.

http://brockleybrewery.co.uk/home/

We did decide to make a visit to the Gipsy Hill Brewery at Beer Rebellion opposite Gipsey Hill station.  I have visited this small but excellent place before but first time for my other half.

She wasn't too happy with me last night as the 2 pint takeaway from the Brockley Brewery leaked in her bag and then I knocked part of my pint at Beer Rebellion over her trying to swat a wasp that was about to land on her. :nono:

So it was home after less than two pints :scratchhead:

Today she is going shopping with her mum so I will go off to the Isle of Wight so I wont be able to spill anyhting on her!!

Good morning all,

The sun is shining, the sky is bluish with a few clouds and the forecast for the rest of the day is good.

After yesterdays exertions I ache a bit so not sure if I'll be doing much today although word from 'er upstairs suggests that I will. Apparently the garden has been neglected. My suggestion that she should pay it more attention was met with a rude retort. :girldevil:

Also need to visit Nicki's house to water plants and feed fish.

Have a good one,

Bob.

Stay calm Polly! It's sunny with blue skies here in the north west Leeds highlands too.

Could be a day where I don't need to wear my umpires coat. Blinking heck! Only the third time this season.

Enjoy Saturday everyone.

Morning, blue sky and sunshine here which is nice.

Gardening jobs done yesterday so its a free day, decided I will go and play some tennis this afternoon with a visit to the club bar afterwards.....maybe before which then puts actual playing into jeopardy.

Whatever happens at least my right arm will get some exercise.

Enjoy your day folks

Morning.  Sunny here on FR, nice for our visitors.  About to start prepping the garden and railway.

Polly, Mike's Beetlecrusher looks like a big ( & 1/4") RobRoy, but isn't built to that design.  Mechanically it's a 'Holmside', but the design was done from St. Rollox works drawings - it's fully lined out too in Caley black, it is quite a sight.  Do I have a photo?  Not that I can find, it was before we came here so in the pre-digital world, and the shots could be anywhere.  I am sure I photographed it at Beamish museum on Ken Swan's track (private, not part if the museum open to the public), but blowed if  know where they are 5 house moves later!  Shame, it's a beauty.  Not easy to drive as it has scale cab fittings and a rather touchy regulator, and it's very powerful = lot of slipping if you're not gentle!  Steams well though.
