34063 '229 Squadron'

Recommended Posts

That's 34081 stripped down at the NVR then... or had Winnie done a true relocation split and managed to be in two places at once ;-)

Seriously though... nice pictues

It was a loooong day LOL, edited accordingly :). Funnily enough on the way back from the stop at NVR I passed 43106 on the back of a low loader heading south on the A1(M) near Peterborough, now I thought that was already at the NNR?. 43106 is another loco I want to crawl all over and get detail shots off, shame it was in full view and so high on a trailer to allow access to photo but not possible due to being on a motorway! :(.

Regards Michael

Got some more photos today, hope some will be of use . Keep on telling me what you want and hopefully between us we should gradually be able to build up a full set of detail shots.

specifically the rear pony truck pivot,

I think there's a shot of that in post #42

Here goes:

Moving on to 34105 this is the stretcher in front of the middle cylinder

and then moving back to front underneath - these are a bit confusing as to what they are, not least to me at the time. It's pitch black in the pit under 34105 so there is an element of guesswork in where I'm pointing the camera. I'll take a torch next time.....

Moving on to the bits of tin, this is the smokebox front plate which the smokebox door is attached (from the inside)

post-6683-0-74976100-1316031304_thumb.jpg

Now some more of how the tin is attached to the loco - it's bolted to a frame of channel which bolts to the sandboxes and outriggers seen in earlier shots

OOps pressed wrong button, am adding more to post

edit post complete

edit edit cocked up - just realised both slide bar bracket photos are from the rear, 1 lh, 1 rh. Don't think I've got one from the front, oh well next time.

Phil, super shots, your right there is a shot of the pony pivot, but its the stretcher that I'm missing from below, 34051 isn't that high off the ground so to get it will require lying on the ground (dirty), I'll go prepared next time! :), its the reverse of these views, it has a sloped front and the drawings I quickly glanced at do not show it too well, I'm now grinding through 1500 Brighton drawing descriptions and sorting them into each batch of loco, I've yet to find that stretcher listed, found just about every other one but not that one.

Phil, heres the stretcher I was on about :), another visit today to NVR, nice chaps had turned over the pony truck too :), another 70 shots taken, some replicas but better resolution and not as many blurred :), I can post them up in a zip file like last time if anyone is interested?. Couldn't find the cab, its off at the shot blasters so don't know when that'll be back, probably pop back up there in a month or so, theres a whole gang of them and they are cracking on at a good pace.

Things are a bit slow with '229' awaiting ideas and parts, l'm doing the chassis at the moment, trying to get everything right before soldering it all together, but looking at all the brake gear and all that rigging ??? looks like a lot of work to do, anyway l went to the Manchester show today (Sun 2nd) with (Andrew P) where l bought some ex-Alan Gibson small detail bits to finish of my scratch built (Jinty 3f), they cost a small fortune as they were made in brass, l don't think l will scratch build anything else again, as the cost of the accessories are too much, if l had bought a kit they would all be included? Thanks for the kind words Jon020

Hi George, I know what you mean but even some of the most expensive kits still need a little extra to make them look good - and I have to say that the Jinty looks superb.

As an example I have spent going on for another £50 on castings to replace the rather poor springs and brake gear offering on my DJH A3 (I just need to put it together of course). It's not they were none existent, but the etched representations were very two dimensional - they may have been better if they were layered to build them up but they weren't

Hi Guys, 229' is on the back burner for a while, didn't realise just how much gear was on a Bullied Pacific ? all the gear under the cab floor, miles of tubes, and the brake gear and all the rodding, looks like it all will have to be scratch built....(Nightmare)....l will get there, don't know when ?.............

Hi Chris, Thanks for the kind word's, l have always loved Bullied Pacific's, l used to go to Waterloo every saturday in the early 60s with a pal and we would train-spot all day, so my dream would be to have my own Bullied Pacific in 7mm, So l decided to build my own, it is not 100% right, but it will look like a Spamcan in BR Green, lightly weathered and named 229 Squadron, my favourite....regards

Looking forward to seeing this too. I've seen a few 7mm 'cans' in the past and they look superb in BR Green. I am sure yours will look that way too. Just scrolling through this post has entertained me hugely - thanks.

I used to work at the Bluebell so Bulleids are part of my recent experience; lovely smell they had/have!!!!!!!!!!! They also sound like old lavvy cisterns when the injectors are on!
