Whacky Signs.

Kiss and ride has been a term for 'passenger drop-off point' for quite a few years, but you don't see it on many signs!

However, a quick google after seeing your photo led me to this BBC news story from 2015:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/uk-england-manchester-30908775/kiss-and-ride-sign-erected-at-preston-train-station

Edit: and further searching shows a reference from 1956:

https://www.waywordradio.org/kiss_and_ride_2/

also cross-referred in the Wikipedia article

Judging by the top photo, they seem to have a general problem with signage.

What's behind the duct tape?

There is a lot of new building in the area including a couple of very large estates with c3000 plus residential units.

Traffic is frequently diverted.

I think that particular sign was in connection with the upgrading of the entrance road to London City Airport.

I took a walking group round the area last Autumn and one of the participants noted that the signs on either side of the approach road had different spellings.

Tinkering with a hunt-and-peck keyboard and google translate, the first line of the Japanese ここにゴミを might say 'Garbage here' and the second line something about throwing away, but I can't find all of the letters!

I grew up in a street where the name of the street was spelled differently on the signs at the two ends of the street, and that was still the case when I was last there a few years ago.

The next road to where I live is Whitehicks on the signs on the west side of the road, and White Hicks on the east side. The road runs north-south, so each end of the road has a different sign on each side.

A simple case of getting one letter wrong, should be dump?
