Trent Valley North American Modellers -2012 Show

I'm home from the show - OK, so I only had to drive 400yds!

Anyway, judging by the feedback during the day, a very enjoyable day was had by all.

It started at 7am (for me and few others) with the usual clearing of the hall and marking out. By 8am, the exhibitors and traders had arrived and started setting up.

By 10am, everybody was ready to go and the doors were opened and the waiting throngs were let in.

Here are some hastily taken photos. I'm sure there are those with better cameras and camera skiils who will post better quality shots later. I was rushing around snapping in between being pulled here there and everywhere to sort out issues (all part of the fun, I'm told).

Lawley St - every bit as good as we expected.

I have more which I'll post later- the forum is running very slowly at the moment so it might take some time.

I must take this opportunity to thank all those involved - the exhibitors (you can't have an exhibition without exhibits!); the traders - it certainly seemed to me that they were inundated with people brandishing credit cards and even money; the helpers who took so much of the load off me - Roy and Rachel who sold the tickets, my wife Liz who ran the raffle and Andy (298) and Colin from Stafford (mentioned earlier) who looked after exhibitors and even (in Colin's case) went into the kitchen to make sandwiches! What a trooper!

Also, of course, all those who came as visitors who I hope had an enjoyable day.

So, that's it for another year. Provisionally, June 15th for next year. Watch this space!

Once again, many thanks to all those who contributed to make it a success.

Nick,

Thanks for a great day out! Great show and we enjoyed ourselves.

Must have been the day for itchy pockets. :) Jean and I went home without Duncan's Mine but with a heavier wallet!

I was very glad to be able to make it, even if it was just for the last 2&1/2 hours.. better late than never eh? After the week I've had with not just my father but also my mother-in-law (insert Les Dawson Memorial gag here) ending up in hospital I needed the break!!

Picked up some bargains, had to gloat getting an O Scale covhop for less than a lot of HO cars... :D....

My lad is now nagging me to help him make a layout for next year.... better get thinking.... :scratchhead: :O

Thanks to all for the photos. Some nice looking layouts there. Consider the 15th pencilled in. I wonder what disaster will keep me away next year.

On the upside I did get some work done on the layout while waiting for the on-call disaster text to appear. (which didn't as the whole thing ended up being cancelled and rolled back by noon)

Penciled in! I really enjoyed myself, and alcuually managed to leave without spending too much so my wife will let me gonext year!

A couple of random thoughts, please dont take them as criticism. I was surprised that the average age was so high, the attendees probably fitted the usual model railway age profile but I had mistakenly gained an impression that NA modellers were a bit younger,

I was also surprised that there were so many small layouts. I knew most of them from RMWeb and so should have been able to anticipate the sizes, but obviously hadn't. I've come up with the theory that they were mostly (all?) one person layouts, whereas at a 'normal' exhibition there would be a proportion of larger club layouts.

I've been inspired to get on with some modelling, especially seeing the Freemo. I wonder if I could do a 3" long module? ;-)

Consider the 15th pencilled in for me too, all things going to plan. Mrs S will be careefully wrapped in cotton wool and placed somewhere that she will suffer the least damage at least two months before the event. The whol thing looks as though you had far too much fun! - really sorry to have missed it

Thanks for sharing all the pics, guys. Looks like a really great show with outstanding layouts. Inspiring me to get more work done on Deerfield Beach, FL which is progressing slowly.

regards,

Mal

Some photos from the freemo room.

Sorry about the yellow hue the room was painted with a (imo nasty) shade of yellow which my camera took a big dislike to!
