How to get lynched at a model railway show

Ah, Stubby, long time no meet, The Helford Valley Railway, they have gone to great lengths to create the illusion.  I liked the remnants of an old timetable of train services they display at shows, amongst many other things.  The local buildings styles they have incorporated, ah, proper job that, right 'ansom.

Creating the paperwork etc., for a layout,  for some members of a group, that can be their particular skill, let them go to town, it helps to create an illusion for the rest of the group to believe in.   And if they believe in it, there's a reason for the layout, station etc.,

At the weekend some one asked if the layout was a model of a real place.

I thought that the opened folder of photos of the real Banbury was enough evidence let along the guide write up and info sheets on the front of the layout!!

I'm not surprised considering where you were.  i worked that area for 4 years and it wasn't know s numpty land for nothing.

I'd just like to add my thanks to everyone who attended our show, both the Traders, the Exhibitors, the club members and the visitors but not least, a great big thanks to all the club members wives and partners who did a magnificent job running the café.

It was hard work but definitely worth it.

Apologies to anyone who came and had trouble parking.  The college has a couple of small car parks and within 200 yards or so there is Pontefract Park with hundreds of spaces in.  In the past, the stewards of the stables have allowed parking in their private car park.  This year they coned off part of the car park which is grassed as they did not want it used.  Unfortunately, some visitors did not see the cones or the tape between the cones and parked on the grass churning it up.  As a result, permission to use this was cancelled and we had to ask people to move their cars.  On Sunday we were not permitted to use the car park at all.  Sadly this is likely to mean that any future events at the College will also be denied the use of this private land.

We are looking into the possibility of having more signs made to direct people into the Pontefract Park public car parks as a first resort.

Talking of signs, as a result of 'feedback' we will also have to invest in some more signs to direct everyone through the maze of buildings in the college to the main entrance.

So, despite the car parking problems, I hope everyone had a thoroughly great visit to our show and hope to see you back next year (weekend 24-25 January 2015).

Looks like some people made a serious bid to get lynched at this years Pontefract show..

I know it's not exhibition related, however, you could get on the Ffestiniog with a load of "Sunny Wales" brochures in the pouring rain. You have to wait for the windows to be suitably misted up though.

I suppose it would depend on whether the brochures promoted 'Liquid Sunshine' or not.

Didn't someone do a 'Thomas being scrapped' cameo which caused some upset ? I never saw it but it sounds like an excellent idea.

Yes.

At the Roding Valley show and then the following year it was Thomas and crew being eaten by Dinosaurs.

I have to report that no-one was lynched at this weekend's Trent Valley North American Modellers Show....

. Despite one layout having shockers like these on it....

Makes me feel not so bad for buying the Top Gear "Toyota that wouldn't die" and Ashes to Ashes set for my O gauge layout in the Modelzone closing sale...

A way to get lynched? How about going up to organisers or exhibitors at a DEMU Showcase and ask, loudly, where the steam engines are?

That's an easy one to answer - just go and watch "New Bryford".....

And I'm getting another one ready for NB's next outing.

Cheers,

Mick

p.s. There actually was a complaint to the exhibition manager at DEMU a few years ago about the lack of steam, despite knowing that it was a D&E show...

I saw your steam offering at this year's DEMU Showcase. It was great. What have you got lined up next?

Watch this space. There is a clue in one of my postings elsewhere on RMW!

Cheers,

Mick

At a certain specialist finescale show, oh, about nine months ago:

A leading pre-group 'expert'   - "Your Maryport & Carlisle engines, are they scratchbuilt ?"

Me  - "Ermm, yes" (resisting the temptation to say that they fell from the sky or were a very limited Bachmann issue)

'Expert' - "of course, you'll know that the M&CR lined it's engines  don't you ?" (ignoring lined tenders and boiler bands)

Me - "I know, I just haven't finished them yet"

'Expert' - "and ALL M&CR engines had numberplates but you've missed them off this one" (pointing to a model of M&CR No26)

Me - " Well, No. 26 was the only one that didn't"

'Expert' - "Oh, I think you're wro...(big clear photo of said engine sans number plates silently pushed under nose of said expert)...anyway, what did you varnish them with ?"

Me - "Johnson's Klear"

'Expert' - " Oh, you made a big mistake there, you should never ever use Klear on models, oh dear me, no" (that's me and several thousand aircraft modellers told, then)

Me - "I'll bear that in mind. Did you bring any of your M****** Railway models for us to see ?" (at which point said expert starts talking to one of his mates and ignores my obviously feeble attempt at fine-scale pre-group modelling)

If I went to an exhibition and found Maryport and Carlisle models on display I'd be too delighted to even think of criticising them.

It's funny how some people just loooove to find fault. Indeed, it appears that it's their real hobby, as opposed to making models.

'Expert' was dying to be lynched - why wasn't he? :)

M****** - Midland? :scratchhead:
