The Fall & Rise of the 60's ( was The End of the Tugs?)

Recommended Posts

Friday 26/7/13, Preston-Humber empty bitumen with 60017, passing the ever-changing landscape at Hatfield & Stainforth:

The Kingsbury tanks should have been through too, on diversion during the Nottingham engineering work, but it looks like the train was cancelled that day.

Been a while since I've put anything up, but I've been enjoying the thread!

Below is a selection of pictures taken this month. The South has seen a couple of Tug workings, but none have been during a sensible time (Well, when I'm not at work!) A loco I did miss was 60074, and what pi@#ed me off further was that it worked to Fawley on 4th July!! Gah!! Although a friend did catch it coming into Marchwood: http://www.flickr.com/photos/johndedman/9208274127/

Anyway, by far the best day spotting I've had in recent history was at Tamworth on Friday 5th July. (Was up that way for DEMU.) The Sun was out all day, and we managed to bag 6 Class 60's during the 8 hours we were there! A video can be found here:

60019 "Port of Grimsby & Immingham" - 6M00 Humber - Kingsbury

And slightly closer to home, 60039 worked down to Marchwood on 10th July with the MOD trip. It's seen from Brockenford Bridge in Totton as it pulls forward onto the mainline with a solitary container flat. It was working the return 6V38 Marchwood MOD to Didcot but as far as Eastleigh Yard. The loco then went West on 6V41 to Westbury.

I have to be honest, there's not very much that'll drag me away from watching American freights on YT these days but that was a very good video, Andy! Enjoyed it!  :sungum:

For a limited period only, now available with added Yorkshire: photograph now while stocks last...

...the Kingsbury/Humberside tanks diverted away from Nottingham:

The red smudge above is the one below from today, 60059

And a few days ago, 60091

But some workings are turning up with 66s, and neither they nor the 60-worked trains have been the best of timekeepers, at least when I've tried to photograph them.

[much later edit: photos at Rotherham, in case you didn't recognise it]

Yesterday 60054 dropped onto 7C77 Acton - Merehead, an unusual turn for a 60. Coming back from London they normally seem to end up on a Whatley train, either 6C76 from Acton or 6V18 from Whatley. When I read it was double headed, I thought knowing my luck the 60 would be tucked inside...

60054 leads 59102 past Crofton with 7C77 Acton - Merehead, a good excuse to get out for the afternoon 15/8/13

60092 to-day after passing through Kirton Tunnel with the 11.04 Humber to Kingsbury working.

Is that footpath crossing (between the station and the tunnel) easy enough to get to? I couldn't find the path lat time I was over there. It did start raining though, which put me off.

60010 at Westerleigh this morning.

This was taken from the newly opened section of the cycle path on the old Midland route to Bristol/Bath.  I had hoped that it would present a few opportunities for morning pictures, but there is too much lineside vegetation.  This was the only spot where I could get a glimpse of the loco.

I wish I'd had my camera yesterday, both 60010 and 60019 were there at the same time.
