plarailfan
Does anyone recognise if this photo, shows the viaduct at Portwood, where it went into Teviot Dale station (I thought at first, that it might be the LNW, "Leeds New Line" at Holbeck, but now, having seen this thread, the square shaped factory chimney, suddenly looks familiar https://www.flickr.com/photos/37093581@N06/8502368503/
RMweb Gold TheSignalEngineer Posted December 1, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 1, 2015 Quite possible. The bridge to the left of the signal looks familiar, I think may be taken in what was Avenue Street looking towards the junction with Tiviot Dale.

The bridge to the left of the signal looks familiar, I think may be taken in what was Avenue Street looking towards the junction with Tiviot Dale. No doubt about it. This view shows the Portwood Place (with part of what was once a pub visible through it), Pool Lane and Water Street bridges from Avenue Street. The chimney of what at one time was Hope Mill is beyond the train. Simon
'CHARD
Just resurrecting this from the gloom after being directed to it by Google after searching 'Cadishead line bashing.' I know the line was singled in 1970 during its freight only period, and put OOU in Summer '82, but did any of our esteemed readership traverse the line on a diversion, Footex, or other working in its last dozen years? I assume a good many freight line specials would have passed over the forgotten head of steel, but it's the rare and rateable bashes that I had in mind - most likely behind a 40, 45 or 47 I guess.... w124bob
The last steam fireman in the NW still driving trains for a mainline TOC (yes he's 68 this year) started his career at Edgeley, moving to Guide Bridge and then Longsight which is still on paper an XC drivers depot, although everyone is based at Piccadilly for practical reasons. I know this is of no direct help but he is the last connection with the CLC still working in Manchester!

Jenny Emily
CLC lives on - in the form of a notice "Cheshire Lines Railway Bridge" in the roadworks on the M60 clockwise - has anyone got a picture of it? There is/was a sign in connection with the current roadworks on the northern side of the M60 for the sandersons sidings bridge which once had the former Tyldesley loop line pass under it. RMweb Premium 65179 Posted April 17, 2016 RMweb Premium Share Posted April 17, 2016 14 and 115 both seem to feature 9F according to a quick Google. I've only got 54 so can't say whether either has this rather nice footage. Simon

Yes, but I can't remember the year. Should be easily referenced though as the trip was to cover Woodhead in its last year (1976?). Traction out and back was a brace of 25s apart from the section from Godley which was was of course 76. I think we left London at about 7.30 and got back to Marylebone about 4 hours late at about midnight, so a long day!

blue47766
Why was that line called the Khyber Pass. Have seen it called that on other sites. Have also looked for remains of it when I've been on the train, but not seen anything. When was it taken up.
Michael Delamar
Here are some shots from seperate recent occasions of the Woodley - Bredbury section. Stop board and shunters release cabinet at the end of single line section from Woodley, looking towards Bredbury. Stone train from Arcow quarry arrives. Onboard. Line into waste terminal to the right. Arriving at Stone terminal. Train draws through hopper house stopping one wagon at a time to unload, taking care as its approx 1 in 63 downgrade. Looking towards bufferstops and end of the line. Looking back towards stone terminal and Woodley with trackbed of the Bredbury Junction - Romiley line on the right. Buffer stops. This base was in the area of Bredbury Junction signal box, the area the box was in can be seen as the embankment is cut back but full of trees now, I think this may have been the base for a tall lattice post lower quadrant signal near the box. End of the line, any further and will be in Morrissons. Edited August 5, 2016 by Michael Delamar
PenrithBeacon
Some shots from the cab between Navigation Road and Northenden. ... Thank you for those Michael, as a small child I used to do my spotting from the platform at Northenden. Then I passed the Cycle Proficiency Test and the world was my oyster! pharrc20
Fantastic photos Michael I always fancied seeing what it is like down there. Had a peek behind the Homebase some years ago and could just see the bufferstops.
