67A
Hi guys, Many thanks for your words of concern over my detached retina operation today, much appreciated. Its all over now and as far as I can tell all is well, if only they had given me a black eye patch I could have gone out as a pirate! Oh arrr Jim lad. Sorry to hear the sad news about Jock (67B) he fought the 'big C' all the way, sincere condolences to Joanne and his family. Modelling is obviously suspended but I'm sure I'll still be able to run some trains in the meantime.

Popular Post 67A
Hi guys, Eye still a bit blurred and it feels like I still have something in it, I'm back tomorrow to the clinic so hopefully they will sort the problem out. Obviously I could not do all I would have liked to but I did do some running and a bit of long overdue modelling toward the end of the week. BR Standard 4MT 75062 ambles through Dent station with a southbound ballast. A block train of Covhops heads south hauled by Stanier 8F 2-8-0 48732 An obvious trespass shot to highlight the obvious powerful look of these fine locomotives. Next 'Up' train is in the hands of BR Sulzer Type 2 Bo-Bo D5233 with the Carlisle College Goods - Leeds Hunslet fitted freight. The local bus service is no doubt more regular than the train service. Widdale viaduct takes the strain as the 1250bhp Type 2 crosses prior to entering Widdale tunnel. Oops, spoke too soon, here is the morning all stations Carlisle-Hellifield stopper combining some parcels van movements. The 1160bhp Type 2 D5054 continues its journey south. A heavy load of coal from Ayr Falkland Yard to Leeds Stourton is capably hauled by BR 9F 2-10-0 92077. Express Fish service rattles through the station with Royal Scot 4-6-0 46115 'Scots Guardsman' at maximum line speed of 75mph. More...
Popular Post 67A
Yet another southbound fitted freight, here we have Ivatt 4MT 2-6-0 43047 bursting out of Rise Hill tunnel. This one done with flash As the 4MT heads for the tunnel we notice a few interesting vehicles stabled in the adjacent sidings, on the 'up' headshunt is a Diesel Brake Tender usually attached to heavy oil workings due to descend the 'long drag'. In the 'down' siding is an Anhydrite hopper removed from a northbound empties service with a 'hot box', similarly the 'Tube' wagon was extracted for an onward trip working to receive attention. Quick bit of era hopping now...Friday night and my mate Andy's stock etc. English Electric Class 40 hauls empty ballast wagons south. The ganger looks impressed! The ballast train runs through the reverse curve Back to reality! Hahaha Stanier 8F 48732 emerges from Widdale tunnel with a northbound service of Anhydrite empties for Long Meg Sidings. The 8F makes good use of the level stretch through Dent following the climb up from Settle. Nobody on the station is giving the train even a glance! Anyway that's it for this week guys, some of you may have noticed the couple of changes, if not this is what I done bad eye and all ! Overhead LED striplighting installed over the layout and a second one over the back of the fiddleyard, hence the lack of 'Down' services as I had to clear all the 'Up' trains from the fiddleyard in order to safely install the strip, you can see it in the second Class 40 photo. The other thing I done was to complete the 4 Anhydrite wagon conversions I started months ago, the original converted wagon still has the tarpauling support rails on but looking at most photographs these appear to be all removed in BR days so I will probably do the same. I still need to find a source of transfers for these as I have to build 20 at least, Fox and Modelmaster don't seem at all interested, any ideas guys. That's it, hope you like. Cheers Ben Hi Ben, Its scratchbuilt with thin plastruct rectangular section for the rails and the Ratio fence posts, I did not want the plastic wire Ratio supply as the fence was welded flat steel section not round section. RMweb Premium Clive Mortimore Posted May 16, 2016 RMweb Premium Share Posted May 16, 2016 Hi Mike I know BR fitters were not know for being able to make steam generators work very well but if the one in the Sulzer Type 2 was working I am a bit concerned that the passengers on board the morning all stations Carlisle-Hellifield stopper will be a tad cold with no trough steam pipe on them vans. Or are they made of sturdier stuff up north.

As for the fitters ability on the Stones or Spanner boilers, well I never had any problems with them in my days as a fitter, I just made myself scarce when I heard one needed looking at!!!! They frightened the living daylights out of most of us 'new' lads, the old hands e.g. steam era fitters looked upon them as toy train boilers.
67A
Hi guys, A couple of things on the go over the past few days: 1. I am currently motorising the semaphores using a 'Megapoints' unit with servo motors, I even have random double pull when pulling 'off' and again random bounce when returning to 'on', it looks great. They are not refitted to the layout as yet as I only have the plain ones finished and still have the two bracket signals to do, it will be soon though. 2. The other thing is the Anhydrite wagons, well the first 5 anyway are now ready to receive the transfers which I only ordered from Railtec Transfers on Monday and they arrived today to a special order as they were not a general stock item, fantastic service from Steve at Railtec. www.railtec-models.com Will keep you all posted on developments!
67A
Hi all, Just been to the Manchester DCC Group's MRX exhibition in the transport museum, excellent show if anyone is trying to decide. Picked up a new Standard 4 2-6-0 76114, this was a 67A Corkerhill regular and I must have cabbed it numerous times and probably had a few unofficial trips up and down the depot yard also, it will appear on the layout in due course following weathering etc.

The Vapor Clarksons on the tanker as aux boilers only blew up occasionally. Quindao was rather spectacular, but not where I pulled the fire extinguisher off the rack- that was at home in Esquimalt, when one fired rather unexpectedly, before completing a purge. (BANG !). Cleaned the soot off everything in the boiler room, and I only needed a new set of underwear...but either they worked, or we had no hot water for showers. Ergo, we made them work. (Quindao had the fireball go up the funnel instead...apparently to a bit of alarm from the Peoples Liberation Army Navy, PLAN) James
