Hi guys,

Not a lot done this week, just too busy with other things - like work!

Here are a few photos to show the little bits I have managed... plus some just for fun.

First we have a pair of S&C stalwart diesels in the shape of the 'Peak' Type 4. Long associated with the line they performed sterling service on the main line duties such as those depicted here in the form of D67 'The Royal Artilleryman' heading the 1S64 down  'Waverley' and sister loco D55 'Royal Signals' is charged with the 1M86 up ' Thames-Clyde Express'. There is approximately 260 ton on Widdale viaduct at that moment, no gerry builders on the Midland!

Another BR product in the shape of Type 2 Bo-Bo D7645 with 7M43 a mixed goods bound for Carlisle. The first 3 wagons have newly prepared sand loads fitted.

Back in the good old days the S&C hosted several special workings one of which was the 'CTAC' which generally ran between Leicester and either Gourock or Greenock on the Clyde coast estuary. I have no knowledge of the train other than it carried members of some sort of Travel Agents Association. The train from photographs I have seen always appeared to be hauled by an ex:LNER pacific and so here we have for the lucky trainspotters A1 60145 'St. Mungo' with a motley rake of Gresley and Thompson bogies, at least they have a buffet.

Both trains pass just north of the box'

The special is certainly making good progress of the fairly level stretch before entering Widdale tunnel.

The unfitted goods in comparison is simply sauntering along.

These views show the train consists of a rake of mixed suburban 57' vehicles.

Brush Type 4 D1942 is displaying the wrong headcode for a TPO duty! I have just received a sheet of mixed headcodes but its the taking diesels apart just to alter them that is the sticking point!

Both trains cross at the barrow crossing.

Both trains disturb the waiting passengers.

Hi guys,

Just back from the Liverpool exhibition which is now held in Merchant Taylor's school in Crosby, well worth a visit with a good selection of layouts and traders, bought a few wagons which will made an appearance in due course!

Hi all,

Apologies for lack of update this week, I've spent today revisiting the optician for some tests who then sent me immediately to the eye hospital for examination, it seems I have a detached retina! I'm back tomorrow for an operation so will be back when I can.

Mike. I'm really sorry to hear of your problem. Hopefully everything will go according to plan and you'll be back to modelling soon.

Hi guys,

Well back at home none the better, After 4 hours wait I had 4 specialists looking at the problem and it seems I'm a medical enigma (as usual). Problem seems that I should have had certain symptoms but I have not and this detachment has been there for some time it would appear. I have been re-booked for surgery next Wednesday - I think they are looking at books and past cases myself.

Sorry to hear of the delay Mike. Does the fact that it's been detached for some time make it more complicated/difficult? I'm not sure but it seems like they're erring on the side of caution.

I honestly don't know what the thinking is, I do know they seem to be pretty astounded that I can still read to the third line from the bottom of the test card with that eye and only the second from the bottom with my good eye. We'll 'see' what happens next week ................ poor pun there!

Hi guys,

Probably the last modelling post for a little while as I go in for my eye op' on Wednesday. All I have been working on this weekend has been the two 'Replica' 57' powered chassis units I bought a few months ago. I decided to use Hornby Railroad BG's as the donor just incase I made a hash of it all and my first attempt was exactly that! So the thinking cap was back on and other than a few detail tweaks like deepening the solebar and individual running boards etc. plus a final weathering they are as good done.

There was only one candidate for a test outing and that was my favourite loco Jubilee 45629 'Straits Settlements' hauling the premier express 'The Thames Clyde Express'

The BG is tucked in behind the loco' and is easily capable of assisting this 12 coach set up the incline of the spiral, unassisted the loco' could only manage 6 coaches without slipping.

Now this looks every part the 'Thames-Clyde Express'

I intend to offer an article to one of the magazines on the conversion work so keep an eye out for it.
