Glad we were able to meet up with you at Manchester.  Loved Dewsbury Midland.

Some great views of Dent as usual.  Good to see the line is still busy!

Hi Polly and Ray,

Yes it was a little different seeing you both off duty and on the other side of the fence so to speak. Dewsbury Midland is a fantastic layout in all respects and among my all time favourites on the exhibition scene. As for Dent well my services are slightly patchy due to the cold weather, not frost on the rails but not worth heating the den for just a couple of hours every evening so I just have my usual Wednesday & Friday get together plus weekends, still its better than being a Southern Rail user eh!

Thought I would put my input into this thread as I recently bought some Hornby Lyddle End station buildings as they were based on Dent station to go with my Bachmann Ais Gill signal box.  As I put in my thread about building a S&C layout, be nice if they could be adapted to represent a N gauge version of Dent?

Hi Julian,

Welcome to 'Dent'. If you are planning an 'N' gauge version of Dent the probabilities of a scenic gem are indeed very high, I'm not an 'N' follower but I well remember the Manchester MRS layout 'Chee Tor' and another favourite from 'The Model Railway Club' 'Chiltern Green and Luton Hoo' both of which were an eye opener to what could be achieved with 'N'. Best wishes for your'e future plans.

I'm seriously thinking of modelling the section from Ribblehead viaduct (or Batty Moss to give it's proper name) to Ais Gill summit in N scale over three levels, suitably compressed to show the beauty and harshness of the line.  It's all in the planning stage as I'm thinking of moving to the Manchester area next year and it has to be transportable as my other half wants to move back to France when I retire, so a lot of planning has to go into this.

1.  If you are seriously planning, I would suggest starting your own thread :)

2.  The scenic options are very good for the S&C.

3.  Even if you are not planning on moving, making it modular is probably a good idea !  (because if you do move, then the bits can be moved as sections, already divided/divideable without tearing out and starting again).

I was talking with one of our few club members who models in N yesterday about the scenic effect which 2mm would allow rather than the rather restricted area which I have in OO (poor me, it's only 30'x3' !)

Apologies Mike, we're at risk of hijacking your thread....

James, Julian already has a thread "Early 80s S&C layout", currently third in the S&C section layout section thread list.

I'm not a Moderator, but can I suggest any further discussion of this layout goes into that thread, other than any comments Mike may wish to make here?

I know from the way KL developed, and some of AndyP's threads, that it's very easy for threads to digress all over the place.

James - no offence or criticism meant - very sensible advice!
