67A
Hi guys, Back in the saddle tonight so a weekend update (of what I don't know yet) should be forthcoming by Sunday. I have the buildings to commence interior detailing, still more scenic work to complete and plenty of stock to detail. Also I NEED to invent a universal coupling system that all the various manufacturers products can talk properly to each other and as a bonus even their own! Dapol and Heljan being the two biggest headaches. I just find it so frustrating that two similar wagons will not couple up or uncouple for no reason other than a badly designed system that tries to be too clever. Kaydee's are out for two reasons, expense and variable stock heights, Sprat & Winkle are out due to amount of stock to convert and the fact they are so fiddly to prepare, bring back the old fashioned Hornby Dublo knuckle, I saw a layout at the Wallasey show on Sunday with various trains thrashing around and - it works! Rant over
RMweb Premium southern42 Posted November 4, 2016 RMweb Premium Share Posted November 4, 2016 Mike, great to see you at Hazel Grove at the weekend. Looking forward to your update. Have fun inventing the universal coupling. I'll put in a pre-order on the r-t-r website and expect pre-production emails!

Popular Post 67A
Hi all, I promised a weekend update so here it is... Johnson 3F 0-6-0 43474 exits Widdale tunnel with a loaded hopper train. BR Std 2MT 2-6-0 78011 in charge of a northbound Iron Ore working has been set back due to a hot box. The 3F has the road and continues north. The ganger has a breather and watches the passing of the 3F. Running past the box and the bothy 43474 ambles along at a sedate pace. A pretty industrious scene around the station in the morning rush. The gloom of the 1269 yard Rise Hill tunnel beckons! Fairburn 4MT 2-6-4T 42138 runs back to its depot with a brake van in tow. The crew are hoping for a clear run home. More to follow later.

67A
Its not all been playing trains.... I mentioned that now the buildings are illuminated I had the intention of detailing the interiors, well some interior decoration has been done starting with the Main Station Building. Only the walls have received attention as yet with more to do, but in due course there will be much more detail so keep looking in over the next few months as this is my main winter project. Back to the fun.. The crew of Q6 0-8-0 63429 breath a sigh of relief at least until they reach Widdale tunnel. The Q6 again, captured between Rise Hill tunnel and the Coal Road Bridge. Black 5 4-6-0 45253 has just cleared Widdale tunnel and viaduct with a northbound parcels working. The driver is slowing for an adverse signal. Both loco crews have time for a bit of banter! Meanwhile the Q6 is trundling onward over Monkey Beck. more to follow...
67A
The Q6 draws little attention from the locals. The fireman is checking the gauge glasses before Widdale tunnel. The mineral working passes the box' Good moment for the spotters out there! The Class 5 get's the right-away and heads north. The gloom of Widdale tunnel lies ahead. 45253 enters the station confines as it steadily picks up speed. The Class 5 should have no trouble reaching Carlisle with only around 19ft to climb in 5 mile or so. more to follow...
67A
Last few for now guys... 45253 powers forward with the Carlisle parcels. Bridge 95 rattles as the Class 5 digs in following its stop at the signal. Now I know some of you like a few occasional shots of the 'workings' so here are a couple of the fiddle-yard. To finish we capture the Class 5 between famous structures on the S&C. That's it guys hope you enjoyed.

RBAGE
Hello Mike, I've just cottoned on to this thread (pun intended) and I have to congratulate you on a fantastic job. I read the first few pages of entries and the last few pages but with 3800+ contributions in between, it would be a bit challenging to find the answer I'm most interested in. At the start you indicated that your plan was to construct helices at 2' radius. That seems very tight. How successful were they? Anyway, keep up the excellent work. Very inspiring. 67A
Hello Mike, I've just cottoned on to this thread (pun intended) and I have to congratulate you on a fantastic job. At the start you indicated that your plan was to construct helices at 2' radius. That seems very tight. How successful were they? Anyway, keep up the excellent work. Very inspiring. Bob Hi Bob, Indeed I used a readily available helix kit of 4 levels then copied it to increase this to 7 and provide the same at the other end. I laid all the track and was truly disappointed to find steam outline loco's struggled with more than 4 or 5 coaches, no good for a main line scenario. I stripped the helixes or helices (now I know how to spell it) down and made some straight sections turning them into lozenge shape this did indeed help but still some steam loco's had problems with decent sized trains, my friend mentioned the Replica Railways Powered Chassis which is a 57ft coach chassis with motorised bogies, this was out of production but is now available, I bought two and converted two Mk1 BG's which sit directly behind say a Jubilee on the Thames-Clyde and you would never know, job sorted. The radius has only caused problems with being unable to have close-coupling of stock and on both the Bachmann Deltic and Heljan DP2 the wheels foul the body and have now been sold. Hope it helps. 67A
Hi all, Weekend update sees a couple of jobs on the go... New arrival in the form of D5182 is undergoing detailing and will be weathered before entering the roster pool. Not too long ago I part converted A3 60062 'MINOROU' into 60092 'FAIRWAY' however one problem remained MINOROU has a single chimney! After searching I found 'Chris Parrish' in Grosmont had one which arrived last week and today I attacked the single chimney with a cutting disc and craft knife. The chimney supplied looked too tall and wide so this was doctored 'gently' to look more in keeping. It was at least 1mm higher than the cab roof and the base was filed to rectify! It still looks a bit large in bare white metal but as the next stage is the paint shop I think it will blend in. Playtime next!
67A
Fairburn 42138 with brake van in tow is halted by signals at the platform to drop some station supplies. K2 2-6-0 62027 hauls a fitted freight past the box. The clutter from the permanent way gangs is seemingly strewn anywhere, the box 'bobby' has the light on giving us a glimpse of the lever frame and instruments etc. The K2 trundles onward passing the station buildings. On our previous visit the BR Std 2MT had set back due to a hot box, having shunted the offending wagon aside for attention the Mogul continues its journey. Peeking out from Rise Hill tunnel is a Class 105 DMU.
67A
A few more shots of the DMU. or two! as it halts at the 'up' platform then continues onward to Skipton. Note the offending 'hot box' casualty. apologies for the blurring - wrong setting, doh! From the south Black 5 44999 leaves Widdale tunnel with a spent ballast working. The ballast spoil is held at signals.
67A
While the Class 5 awaits a path we have the camera at the ready! From the north... A Class 50 is about to burst out from Rise Hill tunnel into Dentdale D420 is hauling 1M20 the Motorail service from Perth to Kensington Olympia We follow its progress Back in the day (1967) I was a big fan of the EE Type 5 as we knew them then.
67A
To finish, a gallery to savour 'the old' -v- 'the new'... That's it guys
