These pictures from The Transport Treasury are why I suggest Blaenavon as the location.

Never mind the 08 and runner look at the poured concrete structure on platform! Calling out to be modeled ....what was it for?

I think it is mainly retaining wall for the road access to the old Westbourne Park Lost Property Warehouse, which is the building in the middle of this image, which at the time of the image has already been surrounded by the RMC yard etc...

I guess it was all done as part of the A40(M) Westway construction and the warehouse got swept away during the construction of Crossrail, revealling some interesting GWR things buried beneath

3962 Westbourne Park 1970s by Crewcastrian

BR Class 08 3962, Westbourne Park.

Pedant mode: I'd say that's the old goods platform that used to be by Royal Oak.  The photographer would be standing on the passenger platform at Royal Oak Station and, if he'd turned 180 degrees, would have been looking across the GWR lines with Ranelagh Bridge Depot beyond.  Lord Hills Bridge is visible on the left and these days Crossrail has just dropped into a tunnel below where the 08 stands in the photo.

I did think it could be Royal Oak, but went with the caption provided. Both are tucked under the Westway but it does look wider there to allow for the slip road on from Ranelagh Bridge...

It's definitely by Royal Oak, in the '80s and '90s that platform was used by London taxi drivers taking rest from the hurly-burly of the Westway.

Back to the 1990s for the next two, both featuring 08649 in different guises at Eastleigh. Not great, but these are scans from pictures taken with a fairly rudimentary camera!

Probably circa 1993

Circa 1995/96. The withdrawn 33 languishing in the background was 33047.

A couple from 2005 featuring EWS red class 09s

09022 rests at Rugby on 16th July

09015 heads through Newport with a steel trip - 15th October

Can't see my '69 Cooper parked up by the cabin in the Rugby Yard shot so I wasn't working that day! The white van belonged to 'Jenks', our C&W man at the time. 09 022 was one of our good Jockos, it had quite a turn of speed and wasn't nearly as rough riding as the others we had. Before I left EWS to join Freightliner I put a Stratford Depot 'cockney sparra' decal on one of the cab sides, which I picked up for a couple of quid at Crewe Works open day.

Even though the rugby pic was taken ‘not that long ago’ it’s hard to imagine class 08/09 in rugby handling workings like that now, it’s all non stop block trains and intermodals through there now, no real interesting freight variety any more
