RMweb Gold The Stationmaster Posted May 18, 2013 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 18, 2013 Lovely carriages Robin. Are these Comet models? I also like the shots of the Manor and agree with 81C (Bob), I also am going to steer clear of Hornby until they sort themselves out.... Let's hope the Saint and Hall are not clever design! The 'Star' sample I have seen at Swindon looks to be 'a proper job' and I understand a similar view was taken by someone who saw them at Hornby's trade day so my hopes are reasonably high for that one (and it might even be two in my case in view of my latest layout idea). But I've already mentally written-off the 'Hall' - if it were to be as good as the 'Grange' then I would be shaking the moths out of my wallet and would pre-order. As it is I have not pre-ordered and I have seen very little on the 8 coupled tanks that would encourage me to change my mind. The RRP of this year's 'Grange' is £128.75 and mine is still on pre-order from January last year (£124.99 for the 'concessions special') while the 28XX - various versions - is c.£140. In contrast the 'Hall' in non-Railroad format comes in at £119.99 (£82.99 in Railroad) and I somehow can't see a lot of other separate detail being added to the basic moulding for 27 quid if part of the deal is etched plates. It might have a very good basic moulding which might make the Railroad version a decent proposition for those who are into 1960s style railway modelling and cutting off & replacing moulded bits with something better but I have an unfortunate feeling that the more expensive model is something else which won't be worth the money asked for it. I accept that I might get a pleasant surprise but experience with the 8 coupled tanks suggests that it would be a surprise.

I accept that I might get a pleasant surprise but experience with the 8 coupled tanks suggests that it would be a surprise. Whilst that will be great if the Star does come in as a proper 2013 model, rather than a throw-back to the 1970's...... Unfortunately, I take the view after the 42xx debacle that Hornby have lost their way. I received an email from Simon Kohler a while ago after all the delays, he assured me that once they arrived I would be very pleased and would like the loco. Sadly I don't! At £100+ I expect a loco that works correctly from the box etc. etc. This really only leaves Bachmann as the main RTR manufacturer, who take their market very seriously. Which conceivably, will leave opportunities for other companies to come into the market... maybe we will see Dapol continue to expand their range and quality.... Anyway, back on topic! Robin, moving the tree further down, works really well and the shot of the Manor is very good - concerned though that the crew still seem to be off, getting a cuppa! Incidentally I see Dart are out of stock of a lot of their crew, just when I am getting ready for a bulk order!! - I suspect too many people are watching "A nod to Brent" and rushing out to copy you! - Keep up the good work and steady flow of photos Robin! Don't blame me Neal as I don't use Dart loco figures.A crew [Falcon] are on board now. I'm glad you like the tree move... Its a glorious sunny morning in the South Hams as we catch up with 7804 as she runs on over the embankment with a light load of a pair of E129s.Plenty of passengers on this trip.

RMweb Gold gwrrob Posted May 19, 2013 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted May 19, 2013 (edited) Post 37 here for figures http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/10954-locomotive-driver-figures/page-2 The tree is an armature only that I added fine leaf foliage to using Woodland Scenics products.International Models used to stock them but are no longer listed on their website but are available here http://www.scaletree.com/ I could do with a few more. The trunks on them look quite realistic imo. ps It looks like those tree armatures are no longer manufactured.Thats a shame. RMweb Premium Mallard60022 Posted May 19, 2013 RMweb Premium Share Posted May 19, 2013 Teresa Green has branched out into scenic work then? I hope she isn't stumped by your requirements. I'll be rooting for ya mate regardless of weather she decides to leaf or carry on the good work. Actually, I think her friend Oz Mosis is also a photographer, but he specialises in water features. Photo synthesis is what this is all about and the railway just sort of 'runs through it all' as it should. Quackers

Gruffalo
Rob, have you got anything bigger than a 4-6-0?? Why would he need anything bigger, just because some other railway companies couldn't get enough tractive effort applied without having half a dozen un-powered wheels!

Don't mind, although I'm guessing asking for an LNER loco would be cheeky! In which case a 28xx if you have one? If not, I don't mind!

You have as much chance of seeing an Eastern engine on here as I have of seeing a Castle on Gilberts 'Peterborough North'. but if my 3864 comes back from overhaul in Margate this week, you'll definitely see that.On a freight..
