A final three of the Limited for today.

The figures 81C mentions are the ones I use but are not available except direct from the man himself.

Especially for John Flann and maybe others,a helicopter shot over the station area and the surroundings.Warts and all.

I don't like them but a couple taken from the opposite viewpoint to post 403 and with the first sat on the overbridge.

Don't fret Robin. The helicopter shots would be just as disarming on any layout. But they do help us to stand back and see what you have, what you are working with. An element of deception is inherent in any modeller's shots of his/her layout, and we all enjoy and accept that as the basis of what we all do - or seek to do. Your lovely railway just became more tangible, that's all.

Ok here goes head over the parapet time. ;) Ex SR rebuilt Merchant Navy class 35023 'Holland-Afrika Line' trundles through Brent on a Plymouth bound oil tank train . :O

Sorry I missed the engine. It was too quick for my lens.

Here's what really was pulling that oil tank train from post 363  It wasn't a Merchant Navy after all.Don't tell 2Manyspams.You all guessed that though. :jester:

Ah, I didn't actually start spotting until September 1958 when I started 'big school'. I wonder if it was still at Laira then?

However, my dad had taken me to watch trains at Devonport Junction at times between early 1948 and when me moved elsewhere in Plymouth in about 1951. Wonder if I saw it then? Pity he didn't have a camera at that time.

According to THE book 5049 went to Laira in December 1956 and remained there until transfer to Newton in July 1958 where she was definitely used on the Newton - Salop double home jobs (which were probably the toughest turns worked by the'Castles' in their entire history).

As I mentioned ,I'm upgrading the far end of Brent. On my latest photos of the curve I have an old Wills kit built bridge. At the moment I have a mirror placed in the gap where an imaginary lane disappears.Unfortunately this doesn't work and looks bad from some angles.I think a photo image on card cut to shape might work better.Any ideas here please.I've searched Google images to no avail as yet.A lane with overhanging trees might be nice.

...and a few more of 5049 on its return trip to Paddington.I wonder if there's still someone alive who remembers standing by that spear point fencing and watching Great Western steam in its heyday. :good:

Most likely to be a "thrill seeker" looking for some mainline action on a cheap day return from Kingsbridge I should think, but then can you use the words "thrill" and "Brent" in the same sentence?

A nice thought David. My late father went to Newton Abbot for his 'thrill seeking'.Here's a final few for today with the Finching sisters looking on as 5049 speeds through.

A very wise man.

All the Mainline traffic to/from Plymouth and beyond, plus the Kingswear Branch traffic, trains dividing or having portions added to them, with numerous engine changes and locos going on and off shed - I think that "thrill" and "Newton Abbot" can be mentioned in the same sentence.

We used to spend our family Summer holidays from 1958 to 1964 in the Torbay area, and it is a great pity that I wasn't really old enough at the time to go to Newton Abbot on my own.

I'm just left with a vague memory of the gradual phasing out of steam and those funny "Warship" things taking over literally "behind my back", as we sat on Goodrington Sands or Broadsands Beach.

Some of us still do that and if we're lucky we see a Manor or a 42xx. :mosking: I'm guessing he would have been at Newton in the early to mid 50s.

Finching sisters on seeing 5049.

"Oh look dear, it was that splendid Earl once again. Must have used the turntable at the south end of North Road so that it didn't have to visit the shed at Laira."

"Yes dear, I thought it was, but I was expecting a King this time. I wonder if it is indisposed? I do hope it isn't damaged in any way as I do like their huge bogies with those lovely springs and they make such a lovely roaring sound as they come under that bridge. Oh well, never mind; shall we take tea and some saffron cake now?

They can buy saffron cake from Joseph Aulds general store on the corner of Station Road. I've bought some myself, its nice. :mosking:

The sisters might get a shock later....

Rob, I'm enjoying the picture show  and is there a class of GWR loco's you don't have a model of?

But referring to your post #430 regarding the disappearing lane maybe my Hintock post #151 might give you some ideas.

There's lots of classes I don't have John and thanks for your tip and I've a similar trick used on the road leading off my overbridge at the station.I need something similar for where my piece of glass is placed as that doesn't work well at all.

Well I've had lots of requests for one so here goes but it aint pretty I'm afraid. Its my old 70s moulding over the Comet chassis with SE Finecast front bogie. It needs full power just to move her slowly so somethings not right with 6002 'King William 2nd'

What I'd give for a newly tooled brand new version.

What will the sisters make of this brute then ?

Anyway its time to see some more mundane action but nice all the same as small prarie 45xx class 4540 brings some empty wagons onto the mainline. These are especially for fellow rmweb member 46444 who is currently modelling the Teign Valley branch amongst other projects.

Is that R C Riley I see in the first photo or perhaps its Peter Gray. :)
