A Nod To Brent - a friendly thread, filled with frivolity, cream teas and pasties. Longing for the happy days in the South Hams 1947.

How did they get away with that first one?

It may be that they counted on the audience sharing the innocence of the poet Browning:

Then, owls and bats, cowls and twats,

Monks and nuns, in a cloister’s moods,

Adjourn to the oak-stump pantry! (Pippa Passes 1841)

It was the 70s and nobody complained to Aunty like they do at any opportunity these days.

I recall working somewhere about 10 years ago and one of the other nurses there had picked up on the word tw@t, which was used by some of the other staff, without knowing it’s true meaning, and started using it in conversation with a doctor- she couldn’t understand why we were all rolling around on the floor laughing.....

ps just got hold of Hornby magazine- photos look great - will read it later when I have staggered home from the local purveyor of Amber nectar!

However, the nurse would have been considered correct and particulary knowledgeable had they been discussing a place of cutting in a pending operation with (say) a Consultant!

Gosh! those windows are so big - in the fourth photo you can see right through into the 50’s!

It might be worth getting Sven’s advice on close coupling, Samantha agrees.
