RMweb Gold Popular Post gwrrob Posted May 12, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted May 12, 2019 I make no apologies for shewing my steel train again albeit with 72xx class 2-8-2 7200 this time on it's way to Devonport. I need to think of a way of storing these wagons safely using my preferred Really Useful Boxes.

RMweb Gold Limpley Stoker Posted May 12, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 12, 2019 You will need to store them in a low humidity environment to prevent the loads going really rusty! 1 1
RMweb Gold Oldddudders Posted May 12, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 12, 2019 Those 2-8-2s do look like something. They ooze power. "Don't mess with me, or I'll pull yer drawbar out!" Quite attractive in a locomotive. 2 4

Mainly associated with South Wales but Newton did have three in my period. 1

The 2-8-2Ts just look a bit overstretched or exaggerated to me. 4
RMweb Premium Mallard60022 Posted May 13, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted May 13, 2019 Did those big Tanks work the coal down/up the Torquay line Rob or were they more involved with banking stuff? P
RMweb Gold gwrrob Posted May 13, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted May 13, 2019 (edited) I have photos of them on Dainton and approaching Brent but I would have also assumed them working the Kingwear coal trains too. Not sure they were used as bankers as Newton had plenty of 41xx/51xx for that job. Found this photo of 7204 taken at Paignton/Goodrington Yard. Keith Ettle has contacted me and suggested that there could have been two distants for Brent outer down home, and suggested the same also applied to the branch, each pair of distants being worked by the a single lever. I don't know. I was not aware two working distants could protect a home, but I suppose it would go some way to explain the proximity of the 'inner distant' to the home in the pic. Over to you, signalling experts! 1
RMweb Gold gwrrob Posted May 14, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted May 14, 2019 It's a shame Mike Stationmaster no longer contributes to this thread as I'm sure he would have had an opinion Miss P.
RMweb Premium Clive Mortimore Posted May 14, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted May 14, 2019 The 1903 signal diagram shows two distant signals on the up and down lines plus two on the branch. I do not know enough about GWR signalling to explain why. 1 1 2

RMweb Gold gwrrob Posted May 14, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted May 14, 2019 Thanks for the continued 'likes', 7200 certainly didn't offend anyone as it was the most popular shoot of the year. Here she is in sepia for good measure.
