A Nod To Brent - a friendly thread, filled with frivolity, cream teas and pasties. Longing for the happy days in the South Hams 1947.

As promised a Castle class 5011 'Tintagel Castle' of NA is seen on an up Millbay Docks to Paddington express. It appears to have used a spare centenary coach instead of the usual Super Saloon normally seen on this service.

Someone else supporting the desistment of non GWR locos ?

I would only negate the presence of rolling stock with 'LNER' on the side, funnily enough, I would like to present this as a satisfactory alternative to tins of spam or Bullied beef:

Or, if you're all really well-behaved, we could try this out at Tigley Shed on the Kingsbridge goods:

(I can neither confirm nor deny that that is (or isn't) Algernon Cuthbertson (or someone else) on the footplate (or elsewhere)... he was right at the zenith of his 'Bauxite phase' at the time...

Hi Rob,

Blundered across this 1958 picture of Brent whilst looking for something else: https://www.flickr.com/photos/110691393@N07/12186853495/sizes/l/in/set-72157638438054524/

Apologies if you have seen it before. Interesting to see the nosey lad in short trousers and W6278W (I think) hiding in the goods shed, although I realise that coach is no use to you in 1947 (built in 1954?).

I've always liked that photo and have a copy . Wouldn't it be great if that lad read this thread. He would be in his late 60s now.

Thanks David, very helpful, an end on view of the canopy with some clear views of construction details I was not sure of!

(The rest is nice too....)

A final few today with the two kitbuilt coaches prominent in the rake. Both Comet and both time consuming.I think they're worth it though.

Oi, no need for that Southall.

As for you Mr Sweet, I'll have you know I'm London born and raised and my family was from Battersea before it was posh. My dad and my uncles used to go to the bridge when regular people could still afford it..
