A Nod To Brent - a friendly thread, filled with frivolity, cream teas and pasties. Longing for the happy days in the South Hams 1947.

Yes a nice touch and I don't think I've seen it modelled before. Here's some more of N class 31409 in action.

Not so dirty is 31409. One of the final batch built as left hand drive locos with the larger slope sided tender. Bachmann model with lots of bits cut off one side and stuck on the other.

As if to pay penance for my sins, tonight I will mostly be traveling down the old GWR mainline from Birmingham to Teignmouth. Changing trains at Exeter but with insufficient time to go up and down the bank to Central. Pity. The sole purpose of the trip is to get beach wall photos for Rob, honest.

We hadn't mentioned 'our' plans for the revamp of the seawall section yet.Still more photos to cram in before the curfew....

Regrettably a large chunk at the northern end of that stretch is not GW but the dreaded pink railway.  Joint GWR and pink railway from Cheltenham to Standish Jcn then back onto pink railway until you join the proper company's line at Westerleigh Jcn.  Once you get past Westerleigh it is then proper GWR all the way to Temple Meads - where it becomes Bristol & Exeter all the way to, well, Exeter, thence SDR to Teignmouth.  So the actual 'pure' GWR bit isn't very long, oh and plus the curves in & out of Gloucester if you happen to call there.

Why have 2 of those meat cans got dart boards on the front of them ?.

Purely to provide your enquiring mind with a question to ask!

Originally the castings had just "southern" on them in the shape of an inverted horse shoe. The drivers didn't like this as they felt it was bad luck. So the castings were modified to complete the circle by adding iirc the build date. Obviously on the creation of British Railways in 1948, smokebox castings proclaiming a previous owner were frowned up, so they gave way to conventional five digit number plates.

You did ask....

Thanks Mike, that's lessened the pain somewhat. On the plus side, I have with me a flask that contains not hot beverage or water but something altogether nicer.

Ah, back on stream as they say in hairnet cafes and mess rooms....

I have had information that needs sharing. Beware of this man if you meet him at the RMWeb show thingy at Richrock

attachicon.gif######.jpg

Seemingly he may sidle up to you and offer you quite a lot of money for your GWR stock.

Q

I'm now waiting for the front door to be smashed in and some blokes in bally cleavers to rush up stairs and eliminate me. Either that or a cruise missile will enter the loft....... :scared:

Better also watch out for blokes with dodgy looking walking sticks too.

Me, paranoid? Just a little......

So the trip has nothing to do with the South Devon Railway Steam & Beer weekend ???

I nicknamed this the unknown spam but Chris informs me it's actually 34110 66 Squadron and ran without an emblem.

That can be arranged but at a later date probably when we start working on the sea section.

Or the Dawlish Air Show tomorrow?

Cracking show last year with the Vulcan...doubt I'll get the family to go twice though. Apparently the planes look more alike than trains. How on earth does a Vulcan look like a Spitfire?

Hello, helpline, how can we help? Is it just a minor hit of T9 or the full Monty Spamcan experience that's required? We find the N Class popular with recent converts - it's almost GWR. Or, shush, don't tell any other helpline users, we do have a small supply of Q1s but, be warned, they are quite hardcore and you may not be ready for that yet....

Pssst, Robin, Chris, promise not to tell anybody, but I found & bought something unmentionable  a while back.....

Vulcan was a Britannia and a WD 2-8-0.  Spitfire was a Castle and a Battle of Britain.  Does that help?  No, I thought not.
