Michael Delamar
Yeah there is a piece underneath so its nice and strong and the original piece is glued back in and when it has its track over it itll never be seen. The confusion arose from these 2 photos. Showing locos being serviced in that area on Grand national day. The pile up of ash made us think there was a pit in this area. What i think now is that it was such a busy day that the ash from smokebox and firebox is thrown on the trackside and there were no pits in this area. If there was one itll be on the road the jubilee is standing on not the adjacent road which is what i cut out, the lamps above still make me unsure if Barham is standing over a pit in these 1963 shots. The pit ive just cut out was planned to be cut out but it took a lot of studying to make sure it was correct. The crab in this shot is standing over it,still grand national day 1963 but the locos have moved. The pit shows up in ordnance survey maps in this position but ordnance survey maps only show the older trackplan. Im pretty sure the pit wouldnt have moved, also note the lamps on the telegraph poles over the pit. I believe it can also be seen in this shot, the road the mineral wagon is standing on is it with the light coloured ash on the ground near it. Michael Delamar
End of a long and tedious job and soon to start another. All plastic concrete sleepers for the up main line cut out and Dow-mac scraped off them. Doesnt look like much here but there is enough to do around 15ft which is what ill be doing. Soon to be stuck down, the correct spacing I believe is about 6.7mm? Would have been a lot easier if they were spaced like that on the sprue, but I think ill make a comb like jig to help when sticking down. Next to cut out and thread on the rail are the chairs, then glue them to the sleepers when the sleepers have been stuck to the baseboard.
Michael Delamar
Starting to lay sleepers, using the smp track as a gauge.
Michael Delamar
Comparing model to prototype, Ill have to get that crab finished, its sitting on the ash pit. Another point was delivered by Chris. I laid sleepers along one 5 ft board tonight. 2 more to go. 184 sleepers per board and 114 chairs per metre length of rail to cut off their sprues and thread on which I will do at home. Michael Delamar
Chris made a start laying trackwork in the shed yard tonight, he brought along another point he has built also. Whilst I laid another board with sleepers (5feet) with one more board left to do. I also laid chairs and rail on about 3ft of sleepers. I have threaded some more rail with chairs at home but there is still a lot to do. Chris has commented that the thickness of c&l plywood sleeper has changed and they are now too thick for rivets to be raised in them so has resorted to using another supplier.
90164
Have you seen the Lightmoor Press book on the first 25 years of BR in the North West? Quite a reasonable section on Liverpool with a couple of photos of Walton-on-the-Hill and a longer section on Grand National.
Michael Delamar
No I havent yet, id be interested to see that. Ill look out for a copy.
Michael Delamar
Ive ordered that book. Tonight a little bit more progress, another metre of rail laid on the concrete sleepers and I had a couple of locos running on it to test it, nice and smooth. Michael Delamar
The book came and is excellent, ok ive seen the 2 photos of Walton but its a great book. Laid more chairs and rail tonight, the rails come in metre lengths and I laid another metre. Thats 2 boards done now with one more to do.

Michael Delamar
Some more progress tonight. Concrete sleepers laid along one board, there is only about another foot or so to do on the last board when they meet the point for the goods yard. The chairs are threaded on the rail ready to be stuck on at the next club night. Also started to lay the opposite running line with the flat bottom wooden sleepered Colin Craig track with BR1 baseplate. It starts on this board and runs to the bottom of this view and onto the final board, the opposite direction is conventional wooden sleepered bullhead rail which Chris and I have also started to lay. Michael Delamar
Some more trackwork was done tonight although I didnt get any shots, a couple more points were laid. Did get a shot of my Hornby Standard 4, recently returned to me by Tim Easter after he converted it to EM gauge. Also a new addition a Bachmann PLV, will be part of a parcels train, Ive given that and the van next to it to Gareth Rowlands for very heavy weathering.
Michael Delamar
Bit more done... The down main line has been laid with wooden sleepered track as far as the tunnel, some more points have been laid in the yard aswel as the long siding next to the down line. Ive laid another metre of rail on the concrete sleepers on the up line but if we look in the opposite direction where I have temporarily laid out some track we can see where it starts to curve so I will leave the next metre for now until the points for this area are done, as we can see there is quite a few more points to be built, some are 3 way points. I also couldnt resist another comparison with a real photo on the newly laid siding. Edited October 23, 2015 by Michael Delamar
Michael Delamar
Another addition is this invicta mk1 cct, a very nice model to add to my parcels train, even though im not even sure any parcels trains were ran into Huskisson. If anyone could confirm Huskisson had any parcels working id very happy. This will get a t-cut to get that metal look before weathering.
APOLLO
If this is the right Huskisson depot then lots of parcels as per pix on this post. http://www.disused-stations.org.uk/h/huskisson/index1.shtml Perhaps I've mentioned before, coming home from Liverpool Exchange to Wigan Wallgate back in the early 70's I seem to remember seeing a Brush 4 on a van / parcels train shunting / waiting at the Huskisson depot, at a lower level than the main line we were on. Around 5pm every night. Lots of complicated tracks around there back then. Your layout is coming along nicely. Good to see a Cheshire Lines layout, especially a Liverpool area one. Edited to add - The trains I saw and in the photos above (and just seen on your previous posts) were 4 wheel van trains, conveying (I suppose, by looking at the various pix) - parcels. Do you mean parcels / passenger vehicles like your CCT. Not sure if I saw these, it was a hell of a long time ago, though I would not be at all surprised if they did not run to Huskisson. 90164
Like Apollo, all I can remember is 12T Vans and mainly class 24s and 25s, but it's a long time ago and the odd long wheelbase van could have got there. Huskisson did once boast a passenger service so there's no reason why parcel stock couldn't have been seen there.
RMweb Gold TheSignalEngineer Posted October 24, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 24, 2015 Not parcels but one of your posts last year showed Interfrigo vans at Huskisson.
Michael Delamar
Yes this is one of my favourite photos and it bugs me that the Airfix interfrigo are HO otherwise id have a couple. This is 1960. I dont think ill come across any photographic evidence of larger parcels vehicles at Huskisson. But just because ive only got a handful of photos doesnt mean in the 5 or so year period I am modelling that none ever got there. What would help would be any evidence in official documents such as timetables.
Stanley Melrose
Loads of vans and hauled by Fowler 4Fs and 3Fs in my day. I think Austerity 2-8-0s and possibly Standard 9Fs became common but I never saw any myself. I once saw a Class 40 on the Huskisson branch, as I think I've already mentioned to you, Mike Stan

Michael Delamar
Little bit of an update.. New additions, need weathering and 3 link couplings, already converted to EM using Romford wheels. Trying out a loco which needs finishing I havent looked at it for about 12 months. Judith Edge N5, the last thing I did was source a DJH chimney which isnt stuck on just yet it needs a bit of fettling. The loco just needs some final body detailing before paint, the chassis is finished and painted and runs well,it has a high level gearbox. And Chris Hewitt working out the pointwork, using a piece of perspex and a pen. Going over my rough sketch much neater on tracing paper. Chris will be demoing point building at the Southport model railway show this weekend where he will be starting some of these on his demo stand. Michael Delamar
Another loco for Walton I am working on a J39. Dave Bradwell chassis with a Bachmann body., Im thinking on a motor in the tender for this loco driving shafts and gears to the loco chassis.
Michael Delamar
Aquired from Chris Hewitt, another vehicle to add to the parcels train. A Comet brass kit of a LMS stove. Needs a little restoration and wheels replacing as something is short circuiting but its a nice model and looks a lot better than it does in this shot.
