jonny777
Good day Peter, The Class 47 looked very familiar to me! Seen 0n 14 April 1978 - 47172 on the adjacent through lines. Would that load of steel coil have originated at Scunthorpe?
Peter Kazmierczak
And if you got onto the platforms you might've seen a "Peak" or two around. Here's one stabled in the sidings adjacent to the station. The footbridge leading to the Loco Works, plus of course the Loco Works themselves, are now but a memory.....
Peter Kazmierczak
The shutters have closed for the last time on the W H Smith stall in the booking hall at Derby Midland station. This was the scene for many hello's and goodbye's over the years. Soon the wrecking balls would reduce all this to rubble.....
pete_mcfarlane
And if you got onto the platforms you might've seen a "Peak" or two around. There was one in the RTC yard the other week when I last visited Derby! None stabled by the platforms though. That spot was taken up by Railfreight red-stripe class 20s. Is this really 2015? DavidBird
Interested to note that the current Derby Station is actually still called "Derby Midland Station", unlike the simpler "Nottingham"... https://goo.gl/maps/mMwXh
RMweb Premium Ramrig Posted June 15, 2015 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 15, 2015 Don't all shout at once! YES PLEASE. OK POB. Two more at Derby. To follow on from Peter K's earlier shot, turning around here is the booking hall looking the other way towards platform 1 with the same information board (with a lot more info on it) And then one of the RoundHouse with the access bridge in place More to follow later.............

RMweb Premium Ramrig Posted June 15, 2015 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 15, 2015 Derby's station pilot in 1984 shunting a GUV about. Not got the number to hand, sorry
RMweb Gold Alister_G Posted June 15, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 15, 2015 Ooh, these photos bring back memories! I used to travel from Matlock to Derby every Sunday, and back on a Friday, in the early eighties, and that's just how I remember it. Al.
Edwin_m
"Midland" reappeared on Derby station just before privatisation. I presume it was the managers who expected to become part-owners of the Midland Main Line TOC obtaining a bit of free publicity at BR's expense. RMweb Premium Ramrig Posted June 15, 2015 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 15, 2015 Not Derby. No idea where that is. I have a shot of two class 20's at Derby in 1984. I will scan and post later for you to compare.

I presume it was the managers who expected to become part-owners of the Midland Main Line TOC obtaining a bit of free publicity at BR's expense. Until not so long ago Nottingham used to have some of the old style BR florescent platform lamps with 'Nottingham Midland' emblazoned on them (at the Grantham end of platforms 1/3). These seem to have gone as part of the many changes over the last few years.
RMweb Gold Enterprisingwestern Posted June 15, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 15, 2015 Is this Derby? 20151 20 6:86.jpg No details on the slide mount. I'd say Huddersfieldish or that way out. Mike.
Peter Kazmierczak
At this time, the former goods yard at Matlock contained a "Peak" and one of the prototype HST trailers too.
