What do we all think to the special offer of a motor/gearbox for £90?

Persdonally, I'd rather pay a bit more and have an ABC.

Or pay half the price for essetially the same thing.

Also why are they going on about delrin? It's clearly a brass gear. There's no room for a chain in there and I doubt the worm is made from delrin.

Also 25:1? Little motor, heavy model, big wheels. Seems a bit tall?

The motor/gearbox on offer is adequate for display/ small layout purposes, or pulling one or two free running coaches. Which,Isuppose , is good enough for those not wishing to have a layout. Anything more than that, especially an out door set up will wear the motor out.

Actually you can get a 6watt Maxon motor and 27.1 quality gearbox combo from ABC for £110......

Sometimes being a couple of months behind is really annoying.

Unless there is a problem, in which case it should be sorted before I get the parts.

I'm not sure about the motor, I guess it needs to be at least a canon.

BTW, Here is the motor & gearbox for those not on Hachette's mailing list.

Doesn't look like any Mashima 1833 that I've ever seen,

http://roxeymouldings.co.uk/product/343/mashima-m1833/£22.50

http://roxeymouldings.co.uk/product/356/7g2618-26-1-gearbox-for-mashima-m1824/1833-motors/£16

So a motor and 26:1 gearbox for £38.50 from a well know O gauge supplier?

well to be fair Jeff you can't really put a price on just one issue, the costs are split evenly over the build, if you look at them individually then yes some would seem very expensive whereas other would seem ludicrously cheap.....I'm more than happy with the end price and so far have been impressed with most of the parts supplied..

Yes some of the back head fittings were found a little wanting but for me that made no difference as I had planned to replace them anyway with Laurie Griffin fittings, just as i will probably replace most of the motion parts but I will wait to see what the kit parts are like first , I would do this with any kit including Martin Finney's so it's no big deal for me..

Oh and the buffers look very nice, received them this morning.. will probably do some more work on the model tomorrow.....:)

Regards

Pete

Sorry, yes, I agree. if I thought as I wrote, I wouldn't be subscribed. I should have put a smiley on, but can never find the winking one.

I need to look into some LG backhead parts too. The backhead itself was nice, the fittings...not so nice.

As for valve gear, I'm nowhere near that yet, I'll see what turns up. That on the Piercy A4 is VERY good.

I am now the proud recipient of issues 28, 29, 31 and 31.

That's not a typo, that's what they sent me :(

I better check mine!

EDIT: yes mine is correct thankfully, just contact them and they will send a copy of 30 to you.

I dunked one I had bought off ebay in Acetone, after trying Superglue release agent.

The release agent got the handrail knobs out, but was having trouble with the excess glue on the boiler cladding.

Half an hour in a litre of acetone and it fell apart, the excess glue just wiped off. I bought the acetone off ebay as pure acetone, don't use nail varnish remover, most contain lanolin which leaves a greasy residue.
