I like the coach shame it's green

Don't worry, Bob. If you mutter the right incantations and turn slowly anti-clockwise, throwing a pot of Humbrol Southern Green over your left shoulder, the coaches should turn chocolate & cream on one side only, as the sun goes down on the third day of any month with a 'z' in it.

I've already tried that and they turned to LMS pink.  :paint:

Ta Stephen. Eileens' Emporium stock. Not heard of Chronos before....thanks. Have ordered some from them to try out. They are 1/7th the price.....how can that be?

Phil

Are you sure it is the Base Station and not the element in the iron. Replacement elements for a TC50 iron are £20.50 at RS.

(Plus VAT I think but postage free). On the other hand however if it is the Base Station, there are many alternative competitors nowadays (Ebay), just be careful to chose one you can get spares for, elements don't last for ever (or indeed very long). Plus if it's the current model, Antex may be able to offer a repair service.

How do you make them go red & cream then?

Easier said than done ...   :jester:  :jester:

Fully agree, one day a paint manufacture will devise a can of paint with both crimson and cream so you just dip your brush in and apply to the coach and hey presto it is the correct livery. mind you there will still be some berks out there who will hold the brush upside down and end up with the cream on the bottom.  :locomotive: :locomotive:

Hi, Just been having a look at comparatives. I see that you think that it is the iron rather than the base unit. RS sell the iron complete for about £38 (plus VAT I think), though in all honesty it's quite easy to fit a replacement element, basically unscrew, pull out and replace (I think there may be a few solder connections to make though). Their replacement base unit is somewhat more expensive! I have several different  TC irons, though the others all of by different manufacturers, share the same design of tip, which are easy to buy and don't break the bank.

Most Expensive - Mapln Precision Gold A55KJ (replacement irons - no problem - a lot cheaper than Antex)

WEP 937D+ (Back up for the Maplin)

Ayouhe (fairly basic)

The above all originate from China.

Then I have a London Road RSU, 2 100w Mains Irons and Gas Solder iron and Mini Blow Torch.

I just use the 660TC for smd leds as it has the smallest tip

You may guess I do a lot of soldering every day.

You do not want cream on your bottom.  Trust me ...

The A55KJ is not a bad bit of kit I've started using it on some W/M kits.

Tis the iron and not the Station. Typically I ordered from Eileen's without checking prices........I shall know for another time. I also CBA to change the element as I'm duff at mending stuff. I do appreciate your advice though.

I believe that the A55KJ from Maplins is actually manufactured by CSI and has been discontinued by them. It has been replaced by a 75W job:

Still cheaper than Maplins; their European presence is in, I think, Manchester; you can buy individual bits; and you can download a pdf manual.

What's not to like?

Cheers,

BR(W).

Dear Mr Duck

I have just exchanged pleasantries with Mr Duck and I have to say that he looks to be in fine plumage.

That was fun........I saw this hand waving from the good old droplight and thought, the train isn't ready to depart yet and then realised that the handsome mush on the end of it was a janner in full regalia. Wasn't expecting an HST to be the train or for it to be stopping. I had positioned myself south of the Platform end and had to waddle back at high speed!!

Pity it wasn't an A1 that then accelerated away...................or even a Sulleid Bacific on loan to Virgin East Coast or whatever they are called these days.

Good to see you Snoops. take care.
