RMweb Gold Market65 Posted July 12, 2016 RMweb Gold Share Posted July 12, 2016 Hi, Dave. A good set of photos today. Good to see the class 120's at work, as well as the class 104. C3408 is a lovely train in the landscape view. With warmest regards, Rob.
RMweb Gold Popular Post DaveF Posted July 13, 2016 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted July 13, 2016 (edited) Some extra photos today. Yesterday I needed to visit Morpeth so decided to look at the station for about 45 minutes. The "old photos will follow fairly soon (probably after I've had a cup of tea). RMweb Gold DaveF Posted July 13, 2016 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted July 13, 2016 I wonder what 67003 was doing lurking around there David? Phil I think it may have been the Newcastle Thunderbird stretching its legs by having a quick trip to Morpeth and back. It came from Newcastle and proceeded into the Blyth and Tyne loops where it waited for a short while before returning south. David

RMweb Gold Market65 Posted July 13, 2016 RMweb Gold Share Posted July 13, 2016 Hi, Dave. Some excellent photo's of Morpeth. It certainly is a very clean and colourful railway these days. I suppose the class 142 will have given an acceptable ride over the CWR. With warmest regards, Rob.
RMweb Gold Popular Post DaveF Posted July 13, 2016 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted July 13, 2016 (edited) Now for today's older photos. They may require some explanation as I normally post "preserved" loco photos on Sundays. The first photo is clearly a very ordinary HST at High Dyke. High Dyke 43075 Bradford to Kings X Feb 82 J7811 The next two, showing Class 03 D2381 an ex BR loco, belonging to Bill McAlpine, on BR metals. The first, at High Dyke shunting wagons which had contained ballast to be returned to BR with a Class 31 in the distance waiting to collect them. At this time the High Dyke branch was officially closed to traffic The second, at Burton Lane crossing is on the High Dyke branch while stopped to sort out a problem. High Dyke from D2381 shunting June 74 J3767 Burton Lane crossing D2381 Ray Towell and Pete checking exhaust manifold June 74 J3763 The next one is of the High Dyke branch in the last months of BR operation. Skillington junction crossing Class 31 5675 up iron ore April 72 J2905 To reach Market Overton, where Flying Scotsman and Pendennis Castle were then based, trains had to pass along the High Dyke branch, then onto the British Steel lines past Sewstern to Buckminster sidings, on the Midland Railway line from Saxby to Bourne (which had an end on junction there with the M&GN). The section of line from Buckminster sidings to Paines sidings was apparently still owned by BR, though completely isolated from the rest of the network and for years was used by British Steel and latterly the preservation project. The next photo shows Paines sidings looking west towards Saxby Junction. Paines sidings McAlpine & Gretton Peckett 0-4-0ST Sept 73 J3397 At Paines sidings we rejoin the ex British Steel line to Market Overton for the final photo. RMweb Gold Market65 Posted July 13, 2016 RMweb Gold Share Posted July 13, 2016 Hi, Dave. A great set of photos of High Dyke and the branch line. It is a wonderful thing to see some of the trains at High Dyke, and especially on the branch. What big side burns to be seen in J3763 - you don't see them quite like that these days! And I must ask if the 03 was able to be got going again? With warmest regards, Rob.

It was taken on one of the days Dad wanted to be out of his office to play trains see the railway he was responsible for in action (the ex British Steel bits). Perhaps I should add that he was in charge of the keys to the crossing gates on the ex British Steel lines. David David
RMweb Gold Popular Post DaveF Posted July 14, 2016 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted July 14, 2016 We are in Leicestershire today with a mix of open and closed lines- and some wet weather at times. RMweb Gold Market65 Posted July 14, 2016 RMweb Gold Share Posted July 14, 2016 Hi, Dave. A great set of photos from Leicestershire. Interesting to see the two very filthy and uncared for class 20's in the first photo. In the last one a reminder of a battery manufacturer that no longer makes them. Sad to see the closed lines. RMweb Premium Popular Post cctransuk Posted July 14, 2016 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted July 14, 2016 J1690 - My brother and I were there about the same time :- I had a rail chair from there; (transported back home on the back of my brother's Lambretta - with me on the pillion seat)! I say had - Pickfords went off with it in the well of their van when they moved us down to Cornwall. Regards, John Isherwood.
RMweb Premium cctransuk Posted July 15, 2016 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 15, 2016 (edited) Thanks, all, for the 'Likes' for the Lubenham photos. The photos were taken, I believe, in the late afternoon of 1st January 1970 - bored with the Christmas / New Year routine we set out to see what was left of the Rugby - Peterborough line infrastructure. The lighting was dictated by conditions, and the graininess is the result of using a Kodak Instamatic to take colour slide photos; the results are better than they deserve to be !! I particularly like the shot of my brother as the 'ghost' signalman. Regards, John Isherwood. PS. Something's wrong here - the photos depict TWO stations. Now I remember; I'm pretty sure that we joined the trackbed at Lubenham, and rode along it, (two-up on the Lambretta!), to the next station - Theddingworth? (Or vice-versa). En-route, we picked up the LMS rail chair - it's a wonder that we made home! Edited July 15, 2016 by cctransuk

jonny777
J043, what an excellent sky to a meteorologist. It looks as though several vast Cumulonimbus clouds are depositing large amounts of rain (and hail probably) across East Lincolnshire.

RMweb Gold Market65 Posted July 15, 2016 RMweb Gold Share Posted July 15, 2016 Hi, Dave. A great selection of ECML photo's today. J043 is superb, and if the letter in the headcode is a B then I think it is the Master Cutler. The 47 hauled train in the photo before it is probably going to Hull, again if the H is correct. Swindon 123
It might indeed be 1515, it's a photo where I had to try to read the loco number off the slide when I catalogued it. David I also think it is 1515. There is a hint of an ETH cable just to the right of the RH buffer, and 1515 had the Data panel on the cabside with the number on the bodyside and a load of white "modifications plaques" on the drivers cabside door, which the loco in the photo has. 1109 in photo Swayfield Class 47 1109 down ex pass Oct 72 C1150, is also interesting in that it was one of the early 1100 number series to receive ETH, which can just be made out on the front of the loco. Pride of Tinsley! pain in the wotsit as it was nearly always on the Master Cutler, about the only blue Type 4 we ever saw at Bedford at the time.
