Good evening, David. That is a most impressive selection of photo’s of the Great Central, around Nottingham, in the early fifties. In JVol5068, at Bagthorpe Junction, with a K3, 61827, on an up passenger train in c1953, you can see that the four passenger carriages are all Thompson non corridor vehicles. BT, T, CL + BT, with an unidentified vehicle on the rear as vehicle number five. Just a bit unusual to have a complete train formed of such carriages, they were usually interspersed with Gresley and pre grouping stock.

With warmest regards,

 Rob.

Good evening, David. That is an excellent selection of photo’s of the Great Central from the Seventies and Eighties. In J7782, at Loughborough from 1983, you have an delightful view of the signalbox. In C4201, at Loughborough Central, with N2, 4744, in October, 1978, you can see how they have put No instead of N followed by a small o with a dash under it - I am unable to do that on my iPad. Also they classified it as N2/2. I think that is right.

The photo’s from thirty years earlier, in the fifties are delightful and convey how things were on the GCR in steam days. In JVol4077, at Loughborough Central, with a J39 on a down passenger train, c1952, according to that excellent book by Hugh Longworth, ‘British Railways Pre-Nationalisation Coaching Stock, Volume 1, GWR & LNER’, on page 363, covering GNR corridor stock, the first coach is to diagram GN78T, a Vestibule Buffet Third. 58’ 6” x 9’ 0”. 32t 4cwt. 24 seats. I can see the running number E43135E, and that was  introduced in January, 1908, and withdrawn in December, 1961.

With warmest regards,

 Rob.

Good evening, David. It is good to see another selection of photo’s from around Nottingham in the early fifties. I’m glad your Dad was able to take those photo’s, and that you are able to post them on here. In JVol7173, at New Basford, with J6, 64249, on a down passenger train, c1951, you can see how the position of the smokebox door handrail and number plate alter the appearance of the front of the locomotive. Others had the handrail lower down with the number plate above it.

With warmest regards,

 Rob.

A final black and white day today - for now.

This time five photos taken at Nottingham Victoria.

Nottingham Victoria A3 60049 Galtee More Manchester  to Marylebone c1952 JVol4093  A very young version of Mum on the far right, my head is just peeping out on theleft side of her.  I think the pushchair is on its side so it didn't run down the slight slope on the platform.

Lovely selection there l, B&W makes things much most atmospheric somehow. I particularly like JVol3060 with the 'Cutler' looking every bit the epitome of an express and JV2053 where I must echo LMS2968 - very brave in what looks like a right "whiteout"!

Makes me shiver just thinking about it!

Good evening, David. What a truly excellent selection of photo’s of Nottingham Victoria station in the early fifties you have posted. It’s so nice seeing your Mum, along with your head, in the first photo’. It’s one for the family album. ;)

Now, in JVol4233, with A5, 69806, on a light engine movement, c1952, it has been well captured by the camera, and makes a lovely portrait shot.

I look forward to seeing more of these lovely photo’s at a future date.

With warmest regards,

 Rob.

Good evening, David. Well, that’s a great set of photo’s of Morpeth in cold, snowy weather. That first photo’ is from that very cold, snowy December in 1981, and shows an unknown class 47, on a down service of Mk1 stock. Now, corneliuslundie, the blue van in the middle of that train, on enlarging the photo’ turns out to be a shadow over a Mk1 TSO. I think it’s tinted blue owing to the snowy landscape.
It’s a shame C6685, with 47348, on a Grangemouth to Haverton Hill ammonia train, on the 19th January, 1985, was posted today, only next Wednesday, which is the 19th, is my birthday.;)

With warmest regards,

 Rob.

In C5598 there is a blue van in the middle of the train. I assume it must have been two parts which came together somewhere en route.

It looks to me like a standard blue/grey Mk1 in shadow.

Good evening, David. That’s a delightful selection of photo’s of Ulgham Lane crossing on the ECML in Northumberland. In C16981, with 56117, on a train of empties to Butterwell, on the18th July, 1992, that’s a well captured three quarter front view of the 56 and train.

Good evening, David. That’s a most impressive set of photo’s of Newcastle Central. In C11665, with 43038, leasing a Newcastle to Kings Cross HST, on the 17th February, 1989, you have caught well the complex track layout as well as a flurry of exhaust from that power car.

With warmest regards,

 Rob.
