on Facebook (Dawlish Beach Cam) it states that a new video stream for the camera is being tested this week. It says whilst this is happening there may be a need to reduce the current quality and I guess this maybe why the HD function button has been removed? It says it is hoped that the new video stream will be running next week.

The Dawlish Web Cam has certainly brought pleasure for a lot of people and I for one am very grateful for it's provision. I get the impression that the majority of the funding is provided by one person, I think his name might be Neil. As we saw the other day the camera itself is a quality piece of kit and it is no wonder that we get such wonderful and clear HD images from it. The sound is great too, thinking of the class 31 pulling away from it, earlier this month. I am sure I saw quoted somewhere that the monthly running costs were in the region of £750 or maybe a bit more. As someone said at the time, that is a persons income and being retired myself, I would most definitely agree with that. I think they are trying to get sponsorship, but I am not sure how successful that is proving? I am not trying to be a doom and gloom person, however, I just hope the new video streaming proves to be cheaper to run as I for one will miss this "window on Dawlish" should it not prove economically viable to maintain. I would like to pass on my sincere thanks to all who are involved with it's operation, it is so much appreciated.

The Dawlish Beach web cam is back up again, so great news. Not sure if the quality of the video stream has reduced a bit, maybe time will tell? Pleased to have it back again though. Update, it appears that the outage was as a result of a power cut in the Dawlish area and the back up batteries going flat, so required a full reset.

Quickly popped on to the webcam and the first thing I saw was this, a six car Exmouth to Paignton train formed of two pacers and a 150 !

attachicon.gifdawlish cam.jpg

Anyone have any idea why such a long formation was used ?

Thanks, Sam

Quick answer-

So it can pick up all the school kids on the return journey at Torre for Newton Abbot, Dawlish etc.

It does need the 6 coaches and that is the standard formation for the 1502 Exeter to Paignton and 1612 Paignton to Exeter, the 150 is attached and detached at Exeter st Davids. Today it was 143629, 143611 and 150233

WED. 9th JULY 2014

Team members from CAN  were on site yesterday

(area where the low seawall path will be raised to a higher level)

the word was that they were waiting for a small digger

( the one that I posted pictured at the Warren compound last week)

it is fitted with a drilling head on its hydraulic arm

& will be drilling for inserting steel pins, for mounting the precast concrete units on

they were expecting to access digger to the site

along the beach from Dawlish station Viaduct at low tide today

unfortunately I will be elsewhere so no pics from me of that
