G'Day Folks

Modern image porn, positively ancient now, mines prehistoric (19320/30's LNER)

Hi Terry

No it ain't ancient, it is "proper modern image". When exhibiting both Pig Lane and Hanging Hill the man who is credited with inventing the term "Modern Image" said to me "Now this is proper modern image". None other than the late Cyril Freezer himself.

I much prefer the term diesel and electric modelling to cover the now very long time we have had "Modern Traction". Or even better the term "Railway Modelling" because if you model some obscure Welsh narrow gauge slate quarry railway in 2 mm fine scale or like seeing you 0 gauge tin plate rush around it is all railway modelling.

Or you could save your ears from a bashing and spend the money on a proper Loco mate, hahah. :sungum:

Mr P

Now having music in the background while muddling or just running trains is lovely. Listening to diesel sounds, I might as well sit outside and let Derek the farmer serenade me with his tractor or combine.

You should have seen the beast of  machine he was using this week. A huge tracked effort with three implements in tow, and all working. One of the old boys who use to do some ploughing reckoned there was over 50ton of gear it was pulling, and that was dragging through the ground. I am quite impressed with some of the machines the farmers around here have. Except the other day when I stuck behind a tractor towing and over loaded muck spreader, he might as well had it working there was poo all over the road.

The return workings of the suburban trains sees a BR type 2 on both the train from Barnsley and the one form Doncaster.

I have extended the middle road on the diesel stabling point by about 3 inches. This now means when I fit the hard standing (and the fuel point) I can park locos so that the pump is in the center of the engine. Before I cut the plastic card for the hard standing I need to shift a wire for one of the isolating sections*.

I am not too sure if I will make my own ash pit or use a Peco one? I have done both the past. Both require me to lift the track and cut a hole.

Still listening to Band Maid. :dancing:

*No I am not going DCC so I park my locos willy-nilly. :music: :music:

Yo Chris

How is my fault, you big enough to lead yourself astray.

I am too much of skinflint these days with music, Youtube and Spotify are my friends.

One of the problems with living in the middle of nowhere Lincolnshire is that I need a good excuse to tell Mrs M I am spending a night in the smoke to see five young ladies from Japan.

Can't Fault You!!!

You have to remember that all the early 25kV locos were designed as mixed traffic so could be put on the front of almost anything.

Tim T

There's a similar film, taken around the same time, which has an electric hauling a train of those Continental-looking bogie hoppers that brought coal to Stonebridge Park power station from the Midlands.

Electric blue locos... So many of them... Shame they're not really on topic for your layout, I could watch that all day.

There is always one tempting me.

As I have said in the past the layout could end up being called just Exchange with OLE. Mk1 of course.

                                                        C.

Hi Chris

I am very brave, just when they put me together they gave me coward's legs that tend to run away before I can show how brave I am. :help:

Wires have been moved and resoldered in the diesel stabling point.

I think I will cut out my own ash pit in the GNR loco yard.

A short note from our lineside cameraman. It is amazing the variety of trains and motive power in use on the local services, let alone the longer distance ones. Today has seen a Cravens DMU on the Doncaster all stations. The corresponding Barnsley service has been the hands of a Met-Cam 2 car unit.  We are lucky we are going through this transition period which the Railway Modeller has called the Modern Image. I know the days of our beloved steam locos are getting fewer but we are witnessing what must be the most important change since the start of railways themselves. I have just been passed by a B1 on a Liverpool to Grimbsy service and a Doncaster to Manchester parcels both in the hands of Mr Thompson's finest class B1 4-6-0s.

How nice of him to send that short but informative essay, what the pillock didn't mention he forgot to put the film in his camera.

Lion will be 49001 and Kestrel will be5t4001.

Lion will end up in the north west. Rule1!!!!!!!

Kestrel will end up at Westbury on stone before going back to Shirebrook!!!

Ah!!, the joys of playing!!

I'll then get my Drizabone ready, Alice the Enfield fired and running and wait for the fallout!!

Hi Chris

Lion in blue?

Kestrel in triple grey railfreight sector livery?

I don't know wether Lion would have made it to triple grey!! I think she could have gone onto the 47 overhaul track.

Kestrel in triple grey? Oh My Yes!!! That had occured!!

I think the powerplant would have been derated and she would have lasted as long as the powerplant.

mind you, a 56 powerplant could have been dropped in!! I'll do her in blue as a stablemate to 47901 and various 56s at Westbury as it was when me and 'Coachbogie' bunked Westbury when I milked cows down there.

Bunking Westbury shed? Dead easy, you walked in!!!!!

As I have posted before, I model Manchester, but I shift stock to periods when I lived elsewhere!!

It depends on what you want to do!! You, of all people know what I'm about!!!!

I really hope Wigan or Manchester shows can get me hooked up with decals!!

                                                                                         Chris.

What you need to do is show Mrs M the lead guitarist in the Billy Black band, he seemed to have some hypnotic effect on Mrs Woodenhead and her mate such that they contemplated a trip to the far reaches of Teeside to see them.

I painted the sleepers of the steam loco yard tonight. I have painted them in a weathered wood colour as apposed to the sleeper grime I have used elsewhere. The track is also a darker track colour than the rust of the running lines.

The mainlines saw a Crab and a Stanier Mogul running with the express and parcels.

Enjoy

Model railway club night tonight. I sat there with my weak tea, talked about politics, waffled on about brexit, told a not to funny joke but still laughed loudly while I watched some trains circulate around the room. All by myself because I live too far from me mates.

Hi Clive,

At club tonight;

Mark, Richard, John W, Fred, Keith and me. Keith and Colin G returned from NYMR gala yesterday so no Colin and no broken locos!.

Colin P is on holiday, John R is on 'working' holiday and Dave was absent. we've not seen Andy for about three weeks.

On track tonight;

Brighton atlantic, Keith's latest purchase. Peckett 0-4-0ST, John's latest, hauling keith's TMC and kitbuilt plate wagons.

A rake of my parcels stock double headed by a B1 and K1. Mark didn't have anything to run tonight.

Hi Jim

What does he want with one of them? Hasn't he already got a GNR one that doesn't match any of his other stock?
