RMweb Gold Enterprisingwestern Posted September 24, 2014 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 24, 2014 What would happen to a railway enthusiast if he stopped a train and climbed on top to take a better picture? Mike.
Black Sheep
So, trespass on the railway and putting themselves in danger as I doubt they have had any training on mounting a coal wagon. Railway / driver should be immune from any repercussions from un trained and unauthorised personel being present
RMweb Premium petethemole Posted September 24, 2014 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 24, 2014 If they have concerns about climate change they should go and picket the Sun (and I don't mean the newspaper).
Black Sheep
Don't rail operators get fined for delays they cause? Fine Greenpeace for the delay

RMweb Gold big jim Posted September 24, 2014 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 24, 2014 Presumably no form of motorised vehicle was used in order to transport themselves and their ruse to the site. but of course and here is the solution to our problems (no good in tunnels or at night though)

Arthur
What's the calorific value of an unwashed tree hugger? Less CO2 emissions than coal? Keep us in juice for a few years maybe.... Only Joking!!!!!, A bit....
pointstaken
Manacle them into a chain gang, march 'em to the power station, then keep them there until they have unloaded the entire train by hand. Should cure the problem for a while. Peaceful protest is one thing, this sort of action isn't. Dennis

Xerces Fobe2
Greenpeace should go to Germany and protest as after Fukushima they have dumped Nuclear power for coal!
durham light infantry
How do these "people" record their acts of infamy? Plan A Use a mobile device, which then has to be charged? ,Carbon Footprint! Plan B Be kind to the environment. Get a sketch artist to do it. Uses charcoal. , Carbon Footprint!! Plan C Sit around the campfire at night, telling the story as oral history. Uses fossil fuel or timber. , Carbon Footprint!!! Mike
Adrian Wintle
I would suggest that, if they really want to make an impact on climate change, they have to go to China and stop many hundreds of coal trains. I'm not sure they'd like the official response, though. Adrian
cromptonnut
I suppose it's lucky that it was only a slow speed area, as the train driver may not have been able to stop in time before hitting the bear.

RMweb Premium Simon Lee Posted September 24, 2014 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 24, 2014 It will be a tactical blunder when one of them gets themselves killed. I had personal experience years ago at Dover when some protesters fixed their hands to the rails in the sidings with a handcuff arrangment in a metal box. It was lucky that the driver of the trip working stopped in time....... Seem to remember the Swampy who was clamped to the rail wasnt so brave when he saw the 33 trundling towards him, nor were his mates in the rubber dingy so brave when the captain of the Trainferry kept coming astern onto the berth whilst they were trying to stop him..... RMweb Gold PaulRhB Posted September 24, 2014 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 24, 2014 As far as this bunch of nutters is concerned it is hardly surprising that all the professionals on here hold similar views - irresponsible behaviour such as this is basically vandalism with what can easily be seen as criminal intent. As it was on NR property I sincerely hope that concern will prosecute them for every Byelaw they have broken as, if nothing else, an example to similarly inclined loonies. And NR could additionally impound the bear and use it for charity fund raising until a separate fine for it is paid Mind you the lost property office is going to have trouble getting it through the door! ajaxjones
Considering what happened in the news yesterday the whole thing was pretty pointless in terms of gaining news coverage. Woeful PR from them. In terms of coal theft, seeing what I've been paying for bags recently, probably a pretty good venture!
cromptonnut
I just left them a little present on their wall, and told them I needed to go and burn some old tyres. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BIw-foTxLMU
RMweb Gold Revolution Mike Posted September 24, 2014 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 24, 2014 Some of the comments are on here are ridiculous - you can be environmentally conscious without wanting everyone "to live in a cave" etc. Of course difficult decisions need to be made and I don't agree with everything Greenpeace does (eg opposition to nuclear) but on coal they are pretty much right (even if their protest methods can be bonkers/dangerous). Cheers, Mike
cromptonnut
It doesn't matter what your feelings are on "climate change", they put themselves and the train crew at risk by trespassing. That's the point here. Personally I'd have leant on the horn and kept the train moving...
