So it is June for the austerity tanks then.

Ah well, at least it will give me time to:

a, Finish my colliery layout.

b, Save up the money to buy them, as I have just paid the balance for an APT-E.

Just means more time for me to hum and haw over making a decision on whether to buy one or not!

Though there is always the chance my budget will actually let me buy one by then!

Hi all,

We've had the full colour samples for some more of the Austerities dropped off by Dave Jones this morning which have been under full scrutinisation by myself and Dave Mylett. These are the (yet to be) weathered examples which will be heading to Mercig prior to returning to the factory via ourselves and Dave Jones. I did make a point of getting some photos of No.1763 (NCB Peckfield Colliery) and Littleton No.7 after they went under the microscope and the results are below. I personally can't wait to see them with a layer of grime attached...!

Cheers,

Dave

Those look very appealing but it’s difficult to judge the amount of sheen from a photograph – bright lighting tends to add sheen. Colour depth looks good, though. Nice to see that the studs holding the coupling rods are painted to match the rods; I think the black studs on steel rods jarred badly on the Kernow O2s.

A couple of points. G-BOAF in the “DJ Models - J94 Update” topic asked if more of an undercut can be given to the rear of the injector overflows. I assume it has not been possible. If the pipework were black, you might get away with it but the nice brass finish does tend to bring out the un-pipe-like shape.

The other point relates to the coupling rods. Are the pins holding them not pushed fully home on the sample or is there slop designed in?

I'd say that the coupling rods pins are like that to allow curves to be negotiated maybe?

Maybe. The coupling rods on my O2 flail around a bit. I don’t want it happening with these. It might not because the rods aren’t articulated and these are six wheelers. The studs holding them on don’t look quite right, though.

I was in hattons today when Dave came in and nearly asked him what was in the box but I went all shy in the face of a model railway celebrity!

Mark

Lol, me?

Nah, you should have asked. I don't bite...hard

Is there going to be an unweathered version of the No.7 Colliery Loco as i prefer it without the weathering on it?

Hi,

J9409 will only be supplied as a lightly weathered loco as displayed above.

Cheers,

Dave

Hi all,

For those who like their austerities clean, we've had further livery samples from Dave Jones of J9401, J9402 and J9408 which are all now finalised. The red on Mech Navvies has changed (although this isn't immediately apparent in the photos) and is now darker and richer compared to the previous images. Further images of all three locos (and also J9407) have been added to the pages above.

I just saw the pics of some of the weathered ones and they look amazing.

Here's another to look at! It's another North West NCB example - Hunslet 3830 in NCB Green, as based at Bickershaw Colliery in the mid-late 1970s. Again, this is the weathering sample produced by Mercig that we'll be sending to China to act as the sample for production.

We've also added product images for the majority of the locos on our website however make sure you scroll through this thread too to see the hi-res photos that have been previously added.

Cheers,

Dave

I was rather hoping one would be in livery they were out shopped in for the war effort but I don't think any of them are...?

None of the ten we're producing are suitable for wartime operation, with eight in industrial guises, one in BR livery and a final example in Army green, but as per the post war deployment of the locomotives the MoD continued to own.

Our final weathered sample has arrived from Mercig showcasing Mountain Ash No.8 in the condition it was well known for in the late 1970s. We couldn't resist producing this one and after seeing the pictures below I'm sure you'll understand why! I've left the images at their full sizes ( the best way to appreciate the details! ) so please click the thumbnails to show these.

All ten locos are getting very close to release now and we'll be able to confirm full details in due course.

Cheers,

Dave

Another cracking looking loco there Dave.

Does "very close to release" = in production? DJM Dave on the Ask Dave thread casually mentioned that the J94s are in production and I'm guessing they're all being made in the same batch?

With each of the Hatton’s variants limited to 200, it would make sense to produce them all together.
