  1. I've finally got round to starting to 'lay' my scenic mats after I prepared them earlier.Neat pva onto the surface and then I dipped the whole mat in a tray of pva/water mix .I squeezed the excess off and placed it as shown in photo.I then tapped it down to seal the edges. When its dry I will use various scatter and postiche to create brambles etc.As its wet the colour looks lighter but hopefully it will tone down on drying. I will also need a pack of those nice Mininatur tufts with leaves too. Peter Hazell looks on with interest on the otherside.
  2. Nice work and you've made me look at my 3796 for the same additions.Great prototype photo.
  3. Thats scary Mike.I've just added a reply to your thread. The colour is a light grey on the road and station entrance and a darker grey on the platform.Creamy/sandy sounds a nice shade too.
  4. Half term week nearly over and still no modelling done.

      Thats not good to here!!

  5. There's quite a few matchpots available in grey as I've discovered with repainting our kitchen. Its a shame you can't get a mini roller [60mm] to give it texture like the large one I used on my walls. They dry darker than on the pot lid though.
  6. No BWT's but at least Petherick Bridge is still extant.Sounds like a nice bike ride that.
  7. A lot of people don't like the coarseness of the Green Scene textured paint but if you rub it when applying it its not that bad.I like it.Those scenic mats [14 x7 ''] are £3.50 each so doing a quite a large area can be costly.I enjoy the scenic side of railway modelling.
  8. Its a while since I did it Mike but I used Green Scene light tarmac I think using my fingers to apply it as it wrecks brushes quickly.I might have added some black or white to vary the shade. They do a dark tarmac too in their range. The road was formed using mounting card in as long a piece as possible to avoid joins but filler usually disguises it anyway. The foreground of the second photo is it in close up.
  9. There should be a button for saying 'thank bloody God for that' on Andy Y's list...God bless Aunt Augusta.
  10. Ah my beloved Mikkel.Where have you been as I've missed your wicked wit.I've been doing a survey and the photos of Western Region action is being 'liked' more than GWR .Not by me though ! A King was loaned to me by an Eastern man. The balance will be redressed I can assure you.The Stars are coming soon.
  11. Ah matt emulsion. We decided to repaint the kitchen walls this week but every paint we get home we're [the missus'] isn't happy with the colour. It rarely looks on the wall the same as on the tin.Back to B & Q/Homebase in the morning...
  12. Yes I'd agree but I wanted to shew how I made the embankments that are in quite a few of my photos. These mats are great for covering large areas quickly especially over newly made landscape forms like modroc.I'm going over the scenics at the other end of my layout and thought I'd try them again.Lets see if it works as well.
  13. I've just dumped a load of lining paper Mark left over from wallpapering the kitchen.I like the sound of an eggshell finish as mine was plain white. The assistant didn't give you a strange look then.
  14. I managed to get some meadow sheets from Green Scene and have prepared them as shown in the photos. As supplied I don't like the colour so I've used my puffer bottle and Heki/Noch static grass to my taste.I've used a summer green and a winter brown mixed. If you have a grassmaster the options are greater as the larger static grass strands won't work through the bottle. You can buy a special glue but I've used hairspray being a tightwad. If you're putting these mats direct to modroc I would leave the furry backing on it but as I'm laying it over previous scatter I've peeled mine off.PVA is perfect for gluing this to the layout now.More later.
  15. Andy Y has spoken to Simon Kohler at length on this model and has posted here http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/55623-Hornby-42xx-72xx-first-glimpses/page-50&do=findComment&comment=1053494
  16. It seems that rolling stock of the BR Western Region period is more popular than GWR on RMweb that is ,so here's a few more of 6015 on a down express.
  17. Talking of timetables. This is also something I've been looking at and have just found this online.Fabulous.Its in two parts and has loads of info. http://www.michaelclemensrailways.co.uk/?atk=613 http://www.michaelclemensrailways.co.uk/files/temp/PLYMOUTH%20AREA%20SEP49%20A.pdf http://www.michaelclemensrailways.co.uk/files/temp/PLYMOUTH%20AREA%20SEP49%20B.pdf
  18. The other day The Stationmaster gave me a verbal slap on the wrist for displaying my toad without sidelamps. Here's todays rear shot of my MK1 BSK hopefully correctly lamped with an end board.
  19. Hopefully Mallard 60022 will come on and tell us something about his King but in the meantime,6015 seen from the overbridge....
  20. A King is born.Complete with a double chimney and in lined BR green too.

    1. Mikkel

      Mikkel

That sounds like a difficult birth!

Hopefully the next one will be blue...

  21. Anyway whilst at Railex ,a great show,I picked up this kit built beauty which is on loan from Mallard60022 of this parish.Very nice even with its double chimney. An apology here for a blatant anachronism of BR 1955 and Great Western coaches but I couldn't resist putting them together.Mk1s tomorrow perhaps. Thanks Phil.Nice to share some time with Mike [stationmaster] and meet some of the members like 46444,Captain Kernow and Chris F who contribute to this thread. Anyway its King class 6015 'King Richard Third' on the 730 train Wolverhampton to Penzance.More to come from this Wills beauty...
