  1. Imagine the media frenzy if a flask had plunged down the sink hole, tho' !
  2. Looks like a container to me. ( my pictures are no clearer )
  3. Well, there aren't exactly huge numbers ( apart from the Felix Pole wagons ) in the GWR Wagons bible - which is where a lot of people would look !!!
  4. I wonder how long it would take for the depot to get through 45 tons of lubricating oil ??!?
  5. Motor Torpedo Boat ? - it must've been wet !
  6. Can't help wondering if there's a Furness Railway 0-6-0 down there !!?! 🙄
  7. If they had turned right at Turfdown rather than left they could have had a low level station at Moorgate on the old A38 ...... though they'd have had to tunnel down to 'North' station if a Padstow connection was, indeed in Plan A.
  8. Looks like that building might still be there - on the corner of Commercial Road and Station Square - and a wide pavement where the Grampusmobile stood.
  9. Oddly, I hadn't forgotten that - and I seem to remember that a link WAS created : a GWR station in the valley ( where the A30 is now ) would have been just as convenient to the townsfolk and easier for God and his Wonderful Railway to work.
  10. Could there have been chemical changes to the pigments while buried ? - but it's very even.
  11. I trust you're going to include a working model of the Grampusmobile !!?!
  12. Always wondered why the GWR put their station on the top of the hill rather than in the valley to the east - where a connection to 'North' might have been a lot simpler.
  13. They say 'metal' but I'd guess plywood ( with metal bits ) ........ I hope the archaeologists recorded what was left of the livery. Presumably it was in Antwerp when the Germans arrived in 1940.
  14. I've just re-read Holcroft's account of filming 'The Wrecker' ..... all set up, train wrecked & burnt and debris cleared on a Sunday so the P-Way gang could work through the night and have the line open for traffic on the Monday ........................... and without a CGI in sight !
  15. ... though some of us would prefer an earlier vintage ! Mulhouse ; 2/9/90
  16. The track layout shows up rather nicely in the snow ! 30/12/85
  17. Erm ........ so Bodmin South Parkway would be north of Bodmin Parkway ...... could be a little confusing for some people - starting with me ! ( Bodmin Halgavor ? )
  18. An intriguing one at New Beckenham : - ( 16/10/08 ) ....... the station was rebuilt in 1904 - by which time the initials S.E.& C.R. were well established !
  19. "The fitting of buffers was to reduce the risk of blocking the ECML in the event of train failure, as it takes time to apply the emergency drawbar Furthermore, the Class 91 could run round and attach directly to the HST power car, with greater ease" ............ not that the ECML was used to running HSTs with no buffers by that date - nor that they then saw the need to fit the rest of the fleet with them !
  20. Woops, I got the 450 & 444 the wrong way round ( 20.34m & 23.57m resp ) but the 185s are longest at 23.75m ......... according to Platform 5 anyway !
  21. About 8'' longer than 450 cars and a whopping 10' longer than 444 cars !
  22. I've never figured out why they felt those Power Cars needed to be fitted with buffers !
  23. "Return to Any Suitable Colliery" p'raps 🙄
