  1. F21 - Until more recently on an EMT 156 you also need a smoke generator, as they often gave out plumes of smoke, with passengers thinking the unit was on fire! Some were really, really, really bad - occasionally you could not see the other end of the coach! Regards, C.
  2. Speak to Scooby Rail of Oak Road fame for therapy - he says you can never have too many HST's! Its terrible that as a young boy I used to hate HST's - Now I must admit I do have a soft spot for them, and respect. A thoroughbred work horse, with style and that has proven itself throughout time (Odd oil leak and fire, but nothing is perfect! Thinking about it, the legendary Deltics used to do similiar!). Went Paddington the other week - certainly not the same without the HST's, plus, there is the deafening scream of IEP's going around the curve. In Devon I rode on an IEP the other week too, not as good as an HST, although the ticket inspector was a laugh! Regards, C.
  3. The other question I don't think anyone has picked up on yet - the 45's are at a quantity of 350 each, have these rep editions gone the same? (Or was that because they will do a run of Blue 45's and quite happy to lower the quantity, because its just a Number and Name Variation?) Regards, C.
  4. Personally think 50008 in faided Laira Blue with Hanson Logos looks pretty horrible. Time it had a repaint, and possibly with a slightly different livery. How about Blue with a couple of silver lines (to go with logo) , could make a nice looking Hanson Livery? As for re-creating the current livery (for anyone interested)- perhaps someone like Railtec could be asked about producing the transfer? As for models, then in Laira Blue - 50019 would be the obvious choice, with 50037 (only had it a very short period) perhaps the real "exclusive". 50031 in Intercity would look good - particularly with those new Mk2 F's! As for a re-run of 50008 - then surely its as easy to get a TTS sound chip. Main question then being with 50015 with fitted sound (pre TTS), and 50008 with TTS, do they run well together, or would fitting TTS to 50015 be a better option, and use 50015's (Pre TTS sound chip) in another. Also some have reported erratic running of Older Class 50's with TTS, necessitating changes to CV's. Are 50008/15 in in this batch? Can see a sequal book coming along....."Blood, Sweat and Hornby Sound Fifties!" LOL! (to those who know what I'm talking about!) Regards, C.
  5. Most likely will, at the end of the day its about trying to flog a few more loco's. Incidentally a Class 37 tooling thats been around for X many years, at the same price as a newly tooled and highly detailed Class 90! Personally, still hoping for an Accurascale Class 37!
  6. The longer to wait, the longer to save! Thats my thought! Regards, C.
  7. Sorry, but this is deviating from APT. Cannot quite see how people are quoting trade prices. Only those in the trade know that, and I've been in it, in the past, for a friend who tried to run a model shop. Model Retailing is about box-shifting. Manufactuers after all recent price rises want one thing, with items like locos and wagons - to buy enough to sell out upon receipt, so they have no stock to hold! That places pressures on model shops to hold the correct levels of stock. Too little and you loose revenue. Too much, and your stuck with stock that has to be paid for in 30 days, and the possibility of an account on hold until you pay it - hence you may loose out on the next big model! Personally, I feel the 10% and 15% maximum reductions in x weeks does not promote the hobby, brings in a game of "call my bluff". If your prepared to risk loosing out, then you can wait and hope someone will be selling it off. There is so much competition, that models need to sell quickly, and people are having to be more and more selective! Regarding the APT, then I think there is some level of viability, I just think it needs to a detailed marketing plan, to be done correctly to be successful. I have a fair idea how I would do it! Someone will do it when they feel there is a business case to produce it, and the numbers add up, for their business. Personally, at the moment there is no rush, with many superb models due in the next year or so! Regards, C.
  8. Were there a fire engine on standby, just in case? Would say that its quite clever in getting some money for a locomotive (Class 59) that has probably performed towards its design life, and so likely to need some expensive work or logically replacement soon. (Yes, I know GM products can be refurbished, and often are in the States but would more modern equipment fit in the UK's loading gauge? Plus there is the "downtime" and the possibility of having to hire other locomotives to cover such "downtime"). So to a business, that just wants to move its products from A to B, would the hassle, along with altering VMOI's, teething troubles etc., actually be worth it?) With high levels of competition in the freight market, no possibility of acquiring new 66's and the hassle of possibly looking at taking on a new locomotive fleet, that does not even exist, then could easily expect this has been the rationale behind getting rid of their locomotives and going towards hook and haul. When the 59 was purchased, BR was in the Class 56 and Class 58 era, possibly providing some incentive to get a locomotive that could perform "better" for the jumbo trains. Now there is the possibility of pouring millions of pounds into something to develop and purchase a replacement, in an area that is not your core business, whist the alternative in the privatised era is pretty "risk free" - to go to a few established FOC's and get a good price to pull "X" amount of trains/tonnes, with more modern technology (especially with Class 66's and Class 70's sitting around doing nothing). But then again, (and must confess to being no expert on fleet performances) but it would be quite embarrasing, if their fleet performance could not match the 59's reliability record! On top of that, the customer gets to off load a fleet of "old" locos that whilst they still do a job, are to all intents and purposes getting old, and would probably benefit from an easier life. Most freight companies don't do things for fun, its usually to test an idea, and to explore options to offer a better product! Regards liveries, then whatever livery turns up, hopefully it won't be pink, but would expect any alteration to be sympathetic to the customer, if the 59's were to remain in the Mendips. Regards, C.
  9. No, not b*ll*cks, but if they do it then your talking alot of money! Maybe even pricier than a pair of b*ll*cks? ......Just in case they do do it, and you have to cash em in! LOL! Best Wishes, C.
  10. Many 15x units in recent years have had alot of rebuilding! I recall seeing a 150 and it was being held together with scaffolding, whilst its chassis/body was worked on! After that - multiple units form a platform that you then just add refurbished bogies and engine, when the reach a certain mileage/ worn out. Pretty simple, really. Best Regards, C.
  11. Think you will find its in (or used to be in) their Safety Case for Nuclear Flasks to be double headed. Regards, C
  12. Don't give yourself too harder time, we have all bought something or another, on a whim only to later find out we shouldn't! As long as you usually get the bargains, your doing well! Personally I don't use E-bay very often, because many prices are just sill to start with, hence as you seem to have found out - research is key! Regards, C.
  13. Don't worry things like this have happened before, in a similar fashion - 66522 (with some weathering and sound added ), Class 24 Experiment (different Chassis?), so don't be too fazed. Some people were annoyed at that, but that was how I believe it got permitted and brushed aside! It probably won't happen now because many prices suppress demand, making it fr less likely to sell another 500+ units. Regards, C.
  14. Someone from Ireland? Plus Gloucester Cemflo's too............
  15. Would wholly agree. Its difficult to find something in blue boxes thats not!
  16. Think a more likely "success" would be to do say a 7 or 8 vehicle rake. The other idea would be to offer the half sets and also offer an extra (un-numbered) powercar, so people could run 7 + 1 or 7 + 7. Regards, C.
  17. Not the photo I saw at Par - this is a much poorer one, but advises of the flow (Celtic Energy) from the transcript. http://www.cornwallrailwaysociety.org.uk/latest-input--news--old-pictures-etc/not-a-recent-event-but-a-rare-one-julian-stephens Hope it helps, Best Regards, C.
  18. Hi - Anyone know what the length of these bad boys/wonderful wagons are? Cannot seem to find it on any website anywhere. Obviously a 20' Container is 80mm at 4mm/1 foot, so with headstock/buffer beam expecting circa 110-120mm. Regarding Sc2016/Samuel request - there was a photo of the Cawoods on the Cornwall Railway Societies website with 10-12 wagons at Par. Best Regards, C.
  19. Yes, but at Sale of the century prices your not making much! Irrespective of that - based on cash tied up on Bachmann stocks, perhaps they can make more doing their own things, have control over production........ The only reason for the sales area exclusives, are just to try to sell a few more locos - A re-hash of the Lima limited editions of the 90's. And I think someone used to work for Riko! Regards, C
  20. To be honest I'd be surprised if Hattons are really that bothered. Apart from a couple of items like the Class 90's - is there really that much in the range that is really that important, or at a price point that sells in vast quantity. A new Class 47 and Class 37 will come along by someone sooner or later, steam - there has been loads of that on clearance at different stockists. Are they really missing that much? If you read the Barwell companies trade terms - The most probable reason that this situation has arisen is quite obvious. I think the big question is, what it says about the manufacturer....... Regards, C.
  21. So when unloading, what happened to the air pipes to stop them getting twisted - I am expecting they didn't do a full 360, and that the pipes long enough to allow say a 180 degree turn and then back again. Not expecting the models to allow this feature! (Although thinking about it, technically with the correct arrangement within the coupling design, it probably would be viable to engineer a relatively simple and robust mechanism, to permit it on at least the inner wagons, especially if the wagons were pretty heavy). Regards, C.
  22. Thanks. Will it have "cosmetic" couplings and hooks too for the outers, as per the instanters on the PCA? Regards, C.
  23. Not wishing to dampen anyones froth, but the diagrams at the Start of the thread give some excellent examples of rakes. Maybe to avoid sidetracking off the subject of the Accurascale product, it may be worth opening up a separate couple of threads to deal with the traffics - i.e. British Steel, Mendip Activities, Misc PTA/JTA/JUA Activities. That way everyone can reference useful material relevant to the wagons they are interested in acquiring, without going through pages of this thread. Certainly, the missing link would appear to be sets of inners for the British Steel livery(ies)? Does the blue/orange livery need them as well? Personally, I would be happy to go for a pack of inners, as I am sure most modellers purchasing the British Steel sets would, if it is going to make the rakes more prototypical. I suppose the next question is, what type of coupling are Accurascale going to put on the wagons? And will they have to be spilt in say "fives?", or what will be the options when operating them? Likewise (someone is bound to ask), with the wagons (from looking on the internet) being circa 12.4m long, then the model should be circa 16.4cm, making 10 vehicles around 1.64m. Now from a personal note - Is 10 enough or do I need to go for 15? Regards, C. P.S. Would really like to see some more photos of the excellent model of "Whatley". Superb modelling!
