Märklin announces Flying Scotsman in H0
friscopete replied to sncf231e's topic in 3.5mm - British HO
Its aimed at all those rich German collectors and players who will love this loco and all its liverys .If they were that bothered by total authenticity they wouldnt have a strip of studs up the middle of their track.Goodluck and have fun.Is there a corner of Little Blighty on the Wunderland fantasy world? -
Its must be a J69 ish .I had a thought today about finishing off my Will s one

Many years ago I posted on here the tale of the RAF Pathfinder Mosquito pilot who experienced engine trouble just after the war and force landed at a US base .As the Yanks were going home they rapidly painted RAF markings one of their planes,a later mark Mossie and gave it to them .He wondered what the authorities thought when checking planes and finding a later version than it should have been . Some one on RMW immedietely chimed in with the fact it must be a wind up as US planes wlere painted PR blue .I was surprised as the pathefinder pilot was a much respected headmaster not given to long tall tales . Several years later I asked my elderly friend ,a Royal Observer Corps officer during and after the war about it .He told me the pilot gave one simple fact wrong .It was Canadians who he must have landed on not Yanks .They mainly had the same paint scheme and markings as RAF so an easy swap. The ROC had to account for every airframe ever used and after the war lots of Mossies were unofficially upgraded so Canadians had older junked planes and our boys later models never issued to them .My friends last job was to observe and note the TSR2 take off for the first time .I thought the Observer corps just looked out for enemy bombers

Hornby new 2023 Range “announced” in the February 2023 Railway Modeller
friscopete replied to Darius43's topic in Hornby
I have been embargoed ...by my wife .I doubt I can buy anything however exciting ..🤢 -
I think we are all big grown up people and well able to form our own judgment of a revue.I do remember centuries ago reading the review of a model soldier in which the reviewer waxed lyrically about a certain figure .As its head was at least twice as big as it should be and it had one leg shorter than the other it taught me to avoid the titfertwat in future . i suggest we all know who they are ,at least I do and I know nuffink about prototypes at all but I do know a good model when I see it and dont need to be told by anyone to the contrary .

Thats for 2026 I gather.

I was interested in the KR shay .I have painted lots of assorted brass shays in the past for customers so I have always been fascinated by them .I did manage to buy a Roundhouse B shay built with NWSL gears for a song on ebay and after much fooling around got it running fine with the side gears whirring away quietly and smoothly at low speed .Its a matter of getting every stage of the gearing and motor perfectly in sync and modifying the pickups .I like mine at last as it creeps down the track so may not bother with KR which is a bit modern with a closed cab .Here is a quick shot it .Still needs some weathering and touch up .i also have some kadee log cars to go with it but no logging layout .

Man buys house next to railway...
friscopete replied to Graham_Muz's topic in UK Prototype Discussions (not questions!)
This has happened in our country village several times .Also buying a house then moaning about everyone have trees in their garden ,pig farm smelling ,manure on fields ,cocks cockadoodling , ,early morning traffic ,new houses built etc.Lifes rich tapestry on Nextdoor app .On the subject of new houses in 1978 an estate agent pulled out a precise plan for 5000 new houses and where they were to be built .I seem to have been the only buyer who has ever seen it . -
Do the Hornby TT couplings allow a straightforward lift out of a wagon or such ? It greatly helps in fiddle yards .Its one of the great advantages of Kadees and fleischmann profi type couplers.I have not got and TT yet . thanks

My one was a bit like that but I just opened up a rear pickup with the flat of a a scalpel blade poked behind to just push it out a tad and all is now perfect .
-
MIne was a bit hesitant intially but I teased out the rear pickups with my scalpel blade and its runs fine now .Its a miniature work of art. .

A design engineer for HiFi where I worked told me that the human ear adapts to what ever system its listening to after a while hence while a hifi perv will only listen to any fault and never learn ,the average joe just buys a set and listens so gets used to it after a while how ever cheap it sounds good ..I knew several hifi buffs inthe 60's .Poor $£@%*ds.Never enjoyed a single note .

Heljan ES1 exclusive for Locomotion and Rails of Sheffield
friscopete replied to AY Mod's topic in Heljan
With reference to price .I suspect many will be able to afford trains still .Its usually men past ,in my case well past ,their optimal breeding peak 😃 who can indulge in hobbies .Usually a recession doesnt really hit hard at them as if they had crap jobs they wouldnt buy toy trains in the first place .What may well make life a bit harder this time is power increases that will soak away that spare money leaving far less in the pocket .We may well see fewer br and new posh big cars around as those fancy deals for a car you never own will become expensive .W ho knows but it may not be uber gloomy out there in model train land. -
