  1. This might be the problem - from the specifications for the phone - "MIUI 12.5 based on Android 11" There's no way of telling from this how the Chinese have implemented their "copy" of Android. Pot luck I'm afraid on if it works or not.
  2. I've certainly tested the Dongle with a very old Select, probably one of the earliest versions of the firmware.
  3. It is, but in reality the Powercab is an old design, using an "in-house" communication protocol rather than something more widely adopted like XpressNet. In the end I'll probably migrate to a Z21 unless I can pick up an Elite cheap. It all depends on if I can control locos ok with a smartphone at an exhibition. I will hopefully test this with my Select and prototype Dongle at the Elizabethan show in October.
  4. Sorry (for me too) no ☹️ I'm trying to get folks in MERG interested in producing either a converter or an NCE specific dongle, but that needs a production version released first to test etc. The Dongle is still in testing at the moment, we are awaiting an updated version of the firmware to address issues already found (I can't say what they are)
  5. rubbish photo from 2018 - APT-E on Summat Colliery 🤣
  6. They work fine with my Powercab, I do have a 2.5A supply though. Having said that the standard PSU will have enough power for at least 1 TXS decoder, maybe more. As to too much, well, a power supply will only supply the current demanded, up to it's limit, so as long as there's no shorts etc then all will be fine. Anyone using a Powercab should have a separate short circuit protection device anyway as the powercab does not respond very well to shorts .....
  7. I'm about to recommend an MN170 as an alternative to the MX617, should I hold off on this?
  8. Ha ha, no this one was pretty perfect apart from the missing gear, oh and a lug off one plastic crosshead. I have spares 😁
  9. Go on, do it in O I dare you 😉
  10. As I said on Facebook Gareth, so sorry for your loss, having lost my father back in March I know what you are going through. He was a great man who will be missed, not just by the family, but the wider community.
  11. Useful information for us with series 1 versions, I'm sure a few wheel weights attached to the chassis will do the trick 😉
  12. He's not bitter 😉 Hornby have a long poor relationship with the bean counters. Look at the Ringfield motors. Instead of holding their hands up and paying a licence to Fleischmann for their design we got the plastic fantastic (Not) version, then to pour further misery on they substituted the brass armature gear for aluminium, that always fails, but outside of the warranty period, so that's a win for them I guess ....... Which reminds me, I have a Duchess of Sutherland with a missing gear that I got off eBay cheap to fix
  13. The problem with fine pointed tips is they have very small thermal mass at the very end, so heat soak even on a small joint is high. You really need a much higher wattage iron to use a very fine tip so that the heat can be maintained. I too favour a small chisel ended bit with my little 15w Antex.
  14. Indeed, I know that part number, it's just no one is selling them as of yet as far as I can see. If anyone knows of a seller with them I'd be very greatful
  15. I’m looking to upgrade my 2020 set with Hornby magnetic couplings if they become available as spares, plus the upgraded lighting, although if I can get the details of the differences I can do them myself …..
  16. I have an earlier version Izzy, bought from a small electronics shop in Coventry in the 1980's, still going strong 😁
  17. oh crap, I'm a sucker for ugly 2-8-0's ..... O gauge would be nice though for Fourgig 🤣
  18. 3D printed APT half bogies and rolling stock vac pipes in various scales will be available soon!

  19. I've got a Stephen Middlemore non sound going spare if anyone wants to make an offer ..... Now sold 😁
  20. Or just snip one of the cap leads like I did 😉
  21. Sorry Paul, should have made it clear, it's an old Bachmann 8 pin production deltic chassis fitted to a Dapol/kitmaster body essentially. The Accurathrash speaker is 4 ohms, so it's wired in series with the standard HM7000 sugar cube, giving 12 ohms.
  22. I'll be there with my usual loco & stock servicing demo, see you all there 😁🚂🚂🚂
  23. The original link still seems to work though, subject to editing the wget line as described in the first posting
