Cheers guys our D.I said the same thing all being well should have a 350 conversion course in the new year and start my handling end of January as for my modelling I've become a bit of a rivet counter (well I will do once I get some modelling time)!!

Bring back the good old days when you were a second man and the driver would let you have a go. The only way to learn.

Definitely best to be out there to drive and learn. Theory is all well and good but must be applied.

There seems to be a major aversion on the part of some operators to back shunting, these days.

One of my earliest railway memories is seeing the crossing gates being closed by the signalman at Canley Halt as it was then.

The doors had been opened and I managed to stop in the shed otherwise it would have been a bit damp in the cab if I had gone through and into the canal!!

Slow driving is the most skilled part of it all (and stopping in exactly the right place of course.
