No, not Christmas time but the day after tomorrow is the First Sunday in Advent. Christmas starts on 25 December and runs for the following 12 days.

Do they know it’s Christmas time at all?

  2. I am planning next years Eurocamp (other camping holiday providers are available). I would like to go to Italy on the Adriatic coast, and possibly spend 2 nights in Switzerland. Where would be the best location for us to ride and see a bit of the RhB and are there any low cost hotels such as HotelF1 or Premierre Classe in that area? Also if there are any model shops as well would be a bonus. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
  3. I will add some vans to my shopping list straight away. Not sure about the GE4/4II compared to the Kato version for value currently on pre-order in Japan for £52ish. I hope that they do sell though and add some other stock to their productions.
  4. For this first time in about 10 years I didn't visit Warley. Mainly due to there being not a lot of interested for me, yes I probably could do with a visit to Model Masters or Gaugemaster for my Swiss layout, but this year I just couldn't justify the Admission charge. So I spent the two days with little Wollastonblue sorting out all his trackmaster trains, and having enormous fun sending a load of engine off a massive jump, we also had my mother round for her birthday. Maybe next year, when my other projects have started.
  5. Well cover me in eggs and flour, and bake me for forty minutes.

  7. Endeavour Morse was partial to a Sammy Smiths. It's a shame you don't see it about in the Midlands. Church End Goats Milk seems to be going down a real treat at the moment, as does Coastal Hop Monster, and Purity Lawless in a can from Morrisons.

  13. This weekend just gone we have laid out the track, and little Wollastonblue and I, gave it all a good clean with a rubber, and then I set about trying to solder feed wires from a Kato Controller to the Tomix track we have. For some unknown reason the Solder just wouldn't take to the rails or fishplates on the Tomix track. Does anyone know if I can use Peco PL82 Power Feed Joiners with Tomix Track or is there an alternative way to attach the power feed cables without resorting to ordering the power connecting clip from Japan? Thanks in advance for any help.

  15. After another mess with the texture I have gone with just using coffee stirrers for the dockside wall: This also gave me the opportunity to check the size of me Fishermens Shed, which looks the perfect size, so I broke out the lolly sticks and started construction: That's all for now.
  16. Well that was one lunchtime wasted. I have obtained some coffee stirrers from a well known sandwich chain. Found a lovely texture on textures.com, printed it out added some upright and braces, I then come to fit it to the dockside to find out I've printed it out too small. On the plus side, I have not had a cigarette in over a week
  17. If you drive down to Rousillon region of France, you can take in the Millau Viaduct, and the Garabit Viaduct. Try Le Petit Train Jaune from Latour de Carol. The change of gauge at Port Bou across the border into Spain. The resort of Argeles Sur Mer is a fantastic place to stay with a stunning beach. Coullioure give the arty side of things. If you do drive it, I would recommend breaking the journey over night either at Orleans or Bourges.
  18. Do I go to Warley or not?

  19. Well I guess I must be in the minority then. While I agree that Christmas shouldn't be mentioned until after bonfire night, but I love the Christmas adverts for the big stores. The John Lewis advert is brilliant, as it is what we are going through with Little Wollastonblue, who is scared of the dark, and wants a light on in case there is a Dinosaur in his room. Have a listen to the Marks and Spencer ad with Paddington. The Sainsburys ad a couple of years ago that featured the WW1 Christmas truce and football match brought a tear to the eye. It's nice to see that advertising people can create something beautiful rather than annoying slogans and jingles. They're all magical and add to the magic of the time of year. While I am the least religious person in the world, I enjoy the time spent with friends and family, and the joy of asking relatives to order stuff from Europe or Japan for my model railway (usually gets expletives and then ends with cards with cash in). Happy Christmas Everyone!!!
  20. Well as a Midlands we say Scoan, so it is Scoan Quay in this instance. Although we do it the Cornish way with the jam first and then the cream. I am thinking of adding a small smokehouse at the rear as well as the Fishermens sheds. Can I incorporate the smell of smoking kippers in to the diorama?
  21. Well I actually have time to spare this lunchtime. I got my poster paints and set to work. First with a grey wash on the dock surface and the background for the dock wall: Then Sky and Sea: Also had a lovely package of DonB with some Meat Vans and a Pug Tank Kit: I am really enjoying this project, and it is working with the smoking cessation. I think what is great with small projects like this an doing small layouts, you achieve more and this gives you the drive to do more with the project. Anyway enough rambling, back to work.
  22. Southern with GWR Coaches do? Well we've done LMS, LNER, and Southern so lets go GWR.
