I think I must have first heard it c1960 not long after first starting school. Hated school to begin with so this song always makes me feel depressed - can't help the occasional smile, mind you. Sums up my life, ever since.

  4. I had already sent these pictures to Kev, but I think they have a place here. All date from the early 70s, before the cutting was filled in. Edited to add - There was a standard GWR wicket gate by the Bridge, it was there, it may still be there, though I note your current picture shows a metal gate.

  7. I'm afraid onlookers at shows do not notice the working ground signals, until pointed out to them, but at least you'll know!
  8. I have never been, so I've just put it on the list of places to visit this year!
  9. How are the floods affecting the museum? Have you had a call from the environment agency regarding putting your pumps back into use?
  10. I forgot to add, mention to friends, work colleagues etc you are acquiring a lathe, I was given some tooling.
  11. I have never bought a "set" of lathe tools, I just bought a bench grinder and some lengths of HSS. The tool shapes we need are not really covered by the commercial sets.
  12. Have you looked at this site? http://www.mini-lathe.com/Default.htm
  13. Ultimately, it's your train set, and it has to satisfy you. Are you sure that a pure economic argument is sufficient? Two/three years from now will you still feel the same? I have looked with interest at the new track, but there is more than just track at stake.

    Dejection.

Very nice pictures of the gorgeous superstructure, but how can one analyse your problem without a picture of the pickups?

I can live with some poor spelling , what I hate is the ' wrong ' spelling .As in breaks instead of brakes .

  16. Well, the Clerical Medical building has been demolished! The only one I could see (and I hadn't spotted the lead shot tower) surviving is the Bristol Power Box on the extreme left (unless it isn't)!
  17. Just found this picture, very rare to find no stock in front of the former box. Now try and work out which buildings still survive in this picture, I make it one, and that one is due for demolition!

    No pressure then Andrew....
  19. Since Callow Lane will also need a backscene, why not one that does both. Have you looked at Gordon Gravett's or Chris Challis use of a flexible cloth. Gordon uses roller blind material, while Chris uses a laminated paper. Just roll it out, clip it against a light wooden frame. Iain Rice suggests something similar in his "Approach to Layout Design" (WSP).
