  1. According to http://www.reocities.com/MotorCity/1291/05.html - the article you (might) have been thinking of would have been Converting from the Hornby Dublo R1, Model Railway Constructor May 1962. I'm off to try and track down a October 1995 MORILL....
  2. Saw at least 2 in stock this morning at the Hobby Box in Uckfield. No connection, but one of my regular haunts.
  3. No - I would have gone higher though (and half wish I did before going to bed!). Ho hum, one for another day... - I've seen the H bodyshells advertised before - but as 14XX's tend to be far cheaper than M7's, I'll have a look for that MORILL article.
  4. Quick one with opinion needed; http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Hornby-OO-R1-0-6-0-thats-beeing-converted-to-a-class-H-0-4-4-and-a-USA-shunter-/290892748079?pt=UK_Trains_Railway_Models&hash=item43ba8f152f&autorefresh=true Now, I've just bid on this (but am not the high bidder). Toying with going again. Not sure if I have the skill to complete this - but would it be worth it? - is this a viable conversion? If it suddenly shoots up in price, I'll know someone is more confident than me - but no hard feelings, as I say, not sure if I would be able to do anything with it anyway...
  5. Is on Page 3! (of the Hailsham Gazette. What did you think I meant? - nobody needs to see that!

  6. Overpriced much? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SMALL-LOT-OF-ENGINES-/161003468574?pt=UK_Trains_Railway_Models&hash=item257c8df71e (Unless the Dublo coach is worth a fortune and I don't know it!)
  7. About 25p for a packet of 50 in Tesco.... (other supermarkets are available). I've used straws as runs for wire (bent paperclip..!) in tube points on my latest, and also wiring runs beneath the baseboard. I think Iain Rice recommended it in his Realistic Layout Design book a couple of years back too.
  8. So I get a night off from the football club and still end up going after half an hour to deal with an abadonment - snow in April is not on!

Does this mean you didn't get any modelling done?

  9. First boot sale of the season tomorrow!

  11. You want HOW much for this?! At first I thought they might be very rare (due to being based on a foreign prototype and Lima's N Gauge mechs being useless) - then I found three in 2 minutes of looking, (two blue, one green), all finishing before Monday, the most expensive being £11-something.
  12. Looks superb. TBH, in Connex days they (and everything else) was often that filthy you couldn't see where the fadeout started anyway...!
  13. Anyone go to, or watch (I think it was on Sky) the England Under 21 game last night? We were there for the Charter Standard club presentation - never seen such ridiculously harsh refereeing for a friendly. Both Austrian sending offs were harsh, and me and my brother did our bit for international relations by telling the Austrian coaching staff (we were sitting right next to their dugout!) that they were somewhat unlucky to concede four and the ref ruined a good game. Unsuprisingly, they agreed! England played well though - Shelvey, Sterling and Wickham in particular. Bodes well for the future!
  14. If I could get even half of the atmosphere from this on my current Light Railway project, I'd be delighted. Superb.
  15. Like this a lot - you're right though, the wall around the gasworks siding does make a big difference The Brewery/Maltings is going to look fantastic when complete!
  16. Argh - that ever so frustrating moment when you remember that you were going to bid for something on ebay. Five minutes after it ended.

      pH

Yes - it was the first of its kind in over a year of watching for one, and went for quite a bit less than I was prepared to pay!

  17. Ah, the French are invading tomorrow. Send for Sharpe!

  18. That incredible moment where you score 5 goals in the last fifteen minutes. Especially when the last goal was a screamer by new Romanian cult hero Ionut Dragan, whom the rest of the team called John due to their inability to pronounce his name. Legendary stuff. Hailsham Town 6 - 2 Worthing United Scorers: Leach 17,90 Salvidge 75, Jarvis 80, Skan 85, Dragan 90

  19. So after that brilliant, virtuoso display from Mr Bale, its the first ever episode of Bullseye on Challenge. First time it's been shown in 30 years apparently, excellent :D

  20. The mighty Stringers won 4-0 today, with a thumping win over Ringmer - who were third. Now up to 15th after our terrible start, so not bad at all. Also, a mate put this on Facebook. Whitehawk v Lewes today, at the dump, sorry, 'The Enclosed Ground'. I've been to some dodgy places, but never seen a stand that looks quite as dangerous as this in the modern era! (Also, before anyone pulls the 'poor Non League club, dont be harsh' card, this lot spent £100,000 on players wages to win the Sussex County League a couple of years ago....!)
  21. What a beautiful piece of modelling. Sensational.
  22. Argh! - One answer to get in the Telegraph crossword, and now I'm stumped. Was feeling very intelligent there for a minute!

It was 'Forestall', I'd got another clue wrong... - the wife worked it out. As for cryptic crosswords, I've never been able to do those, even trying to do the Sun one using only the cryptic clues used to stump me!
