Well it'll give some variety alongside my 33 in due course. Now all I need is a way to figure out a track plan in the space I have.

Backs on to the railway line, and has room in the garden for a 13 x 10 shed. Oh, and apparently there's a kitchen and some other rooms in the house.

  3. Discussing paint colour scheme options for when we move. Apparently rail blue and warning panel yellow are not an option for the living room.

Are they RTR legs? If so, you're just a box-opener... you should at least weather them.

A quick tweak to a plan results in fitting two spare boards, recycled from the modular project, that will fit very nicely on one particular plan.

  7. Just dismantled an old 3ft x 18" board and salvaged 55 screws. A bit overkill perhaps?

    1. Satan's Goldfish

No such thing as overkill. Says the man with several hundred 4mm scale shipping containers....

If you'd glued it, there wouldn't have been any screws to salvage.

  8. Oh dear... that moment when you google a question and the first answer that comes up is an RMWeb thread you started 7 years ago asking the very same question...

  9. My local model shop has a range of 1:400 modern planes and airport accessories in stock so why do I feel the urge to build a T scale "Gatwick" which is on my doorstep? I can't model a 6th scale...

I had a similar thought once...... luckily it passed. Problem arrises that T is 450 but planes were available at either 400 or 500.

  13. Oh the joys of an "Adams Radial" ... so do I attempt to model Lyme Regis inaccurately, or a "might have been" layout which people will pick apart because it's not Lyme Regis... deep sigh.

I've sort of set myself in the wartime period with the purchases I have so unless I model it as 'preserved' I am a bit stuck.

  17. Wishing I hadn't decided to model the Belmond British Pullman with the Clan Line that's being delivered to me today ... 13 coaches at £50 a pop ...

    1. cromptonnut

I've put forward a shopping list for my forthcoming birthday. I just won't mention the triple pack of carriages that Ebay had cheap (all named in the current rake) and the one the local model shop has just put by for me, and the two coaches for conversion into generator and baggage car that Hattons are posting me tomorrow... oops...

  18. Placed a Hattons order 3 days ago, it hasn't even been despatched yet. Will be asking them why later...

    3. cromptonnut

      cromptonnut

Interestingly I've just had the same response from them about being behind in the warehouse. If it's in stock (as Hattons claim everything is) then you expect a fairly quick turnaround.

I've used plenty of other shops in that time, it's just that Hattons give you the order history.

That seems the most important thing to me. I'm currently looking at a new office and the place that is winning is out of the way with a relatively long commute but it is next to the Bluebell Railway

    3. cromptonnut

      cromptonnut

To add to it, my wife is assessing places for suitability for cats that we don't have yet. Never mind cost, parking, commuting, council tax band, development potential, what the neighbours are like and all the other irrelevant things you ought to consider when making one of the biggest expenditures you're ever likely to make.

  21. Curious how I put in a bid for £67 on an item with 15 seconds to go yet the winning bid was £66 and I didn't get it.

Happened to me the other day - there's sometimes more of a time delay than you think... Don't take it down to the wire.. ten seconds maybe 8 secs before then anything shorter and the land of perpetual regret beckons!

  22. Not sure what to do with the half a dozen or so layout ideas buzzing round my head that all fit a 'repurposed' model board. Bah.

  23. Random facebook message from a reporter from a Chinese national newspaper wanting my opinion on something I posted about a week ago on facebook about buying medicine over the interent - pile cream, as it happens (and the dangers of self-medication and buying medicine via the internet) ... strange world.

It was either where I was, or with the great crowds on the other platform with a mostly obscured shot with heads in the way - either way I lost. But now, having seen some other people's photos from around Redhill I know exactly where to go next time :)
