Nope, won't embarrass him by the fact he recognised me unless he wants to :)

How did he recognise you? Where you wearing a pink carnation ?

      Captain Kernow

Certainly wasn't me. But who had the bigger shock?

  2. Must remember "less is more" as I redraw my track plan for the umpteenth time. It doesn't need to be overcrowded as it won't look realistic. But if I can just fit in one more siding...

Two long sidings always better than three shorter ones!

  3. I've just watched "The Last Passenger". Ok film but why was an electric slam door unit masquerading as a 3 car diesel unit, which also had a buffet/bar in one scene. Sometimes being knowledgeable is a disadvantage.

No worse than the howlers in some aviation films.

  4. I go away for two days and you guys leave me 150+ notifications to trawl through. Good grief, I'd hate to be offline for a week.

  5. Back to the drawing board... wondered if this paint was safe to use around polystyrene, as I watch the test piece slowly melting...

      Sounds like powerful stuff.

  6. Planning a trip to a wedding. Getting the last train (at 5.30pm) that can get us home at midnight - nothing via any other route that I can find except the one National Rail suggests. Literally no other trains I can get from anywhere on that one's route to get me back to London. Too risky?

Unfortunately I can't come back on the Sunday as I'm due to be working and don't have any holiday available. Otherwise I wouldn't even be considering this.

  7. Hi Ho, Hi Ho, it's off to ExpoNG I go ...

Went with an empty bag and a full wallet, returned with a full bag and an empty wallet. Mission accomplished.

  8. is now the proud owner of a Kernow NSE Thumper, which is sitting burbling away on the table behind me. Better build a layout for it to run on I guess.

It's worth the wait ... although the horn sounds a bit strange it is apparently taken from the real thing.

  9. Sleep well my furry friend, farewell to one of our hamsters who crossed the rainbow bridge some time today.

  12. Waiting for an Amazon delivery so I can finally play Elite: Dangerous properly ... trying to use the mouse is a disaster waiting to happen (and it has several times - who put that meteorite there?)

    1. BigAndy

      BigAndy

I've been toying with the idea of getting Elite: Dangerous. It certainly looks the part, Is it any good?

I'll let you know when I can actually fly well enough to get out of the training mode to feel competent enough to achieve anything without crashing.

  13. We're off to the Isle of Wight tomorrow - got the steam railway, Upstairs Downstairs, model railway exhibition and model village covered, anything else essential? She's not too impressed that she spent 5 minutes trying to find information about the Isle of Wight Sausage Museum though...

I think that the museum mentioned has the largest sausages in captivity, although they were born there.

Love the Beatles song. I've got a ticket to Ryde

  14. I knew offering to help my local model shop with an advert for ModelRail was a mistake. I'm now making them an advert for Hornby magazine...

  15. I appear to have been responsible for my local B&Q revising their wood cutting policy to no longer cut anything smaller than 21" x 9". Oops. Annoying though, how else are you supposed to cut baseboard endplates?

  16. A birthday with no railway related presents. Glad I treated myself last week at Hattons :)

    1. bcnPete

      bcnPete

Happy Birthday - my wife said it was highly unlikely she would ever buy me anything train related...so no harm in treating ones self in that case!

  17. Threading Peco IL-120 on to Peco IL-1 ...15 down, 165 to go (and that's just 8ft of double track... what about the rest of the layout???)

    1. steve22

      steve22

It will look nice when you've finished though. "I did that," you'll be able to say.

    2. cromptonnut

      cromptonnut

yep, until probably the first time I go to take the layout anywhere and rip a length out trying to fit it in the car... need to pin down and weather the track first though before I glue the third rail pots in, and wonder if I can find my NS Carrs Black?

    3. cromptonnut

      cromptonnut

Can you even still get Carrs Black? Can't find anyone that stocks it.

  18. Wired up to a blood pressure monitor all day, keep catching the tube on the door handle. Been 2 hours and fed up with it already.

She ended up on the 1642 Brighton and got off at Gatwick, to come back up again as it's an acceptable "alternative route" apparently. The 1659 was also affected, only going to Horsham and not splitting at Redhill for half to go to Tonbridge as well. Not a good afternoon really, apparently there were issues at Victoria then a trespasser at Balham (gateway to the South) about 7pm.

  20. Third needle lucky on the blood test. Mission accomplished but my arms hurt. Interferes with my modelling.

    1. Metr0Land

      Metr0Land

I know the feeling - they usually have trouble with my veins moving from left arm to right and then back again.....

    2. cromptonnut

      cromptonnut

Mine just all disappear. Strangely enough when I'm modelling my body has no difficulty in giving up blood yet it doesn't when it's supposed to.

  21. So my Tim Horn boards are all assembled ... but what do I do about legs for them? Being only 10 inches wide it doesnt give a lot of capacity.

  22. Having fun with my first proper set of Tim Horn boards... two built, three left.

    1. newbryford

      newbryford

They are good though - aren't they?

    2. cromptonnut

      cromptonnut

I made the mistake of doing the curved boards first which appear to be harder than the straight boards ... but I guess that means the rest will be much easier. The use of some Peco track pins to hold bits together whilst the glue dries made a big difference.

A lot depends on which state the goods are supplied from, some states have local taxes and some don't. As someone who works for Royal Mail I can testify that the system to us seems a little hit and miss, I've seen packets with goods worth

      Trainshed Terry

Graham Walters, I agree with you on your statement.

  24. Awesome. My package, which I've been waiting for to be delivered from the US, was apparently delivered at 7.11am this morning. Even if that's taking into account the timezones, I certainly haven't received a parcel. Harumph.

    1. PaulRhB

      PaulRhB

New Royal Mail computer system? Two packets I've had delivered from the states this week were 'delivered' two days before I got a customs card. Then it updated again to show delivered when I picked them up with the correct time. It can't distinguish between arriving in the UK and actual delivery!

Who knows but $80 of impossible to get otherwise in the UK Woodland Scenics stuff is not going to just be ignored missing!
