    Coastguard Creek - 15 months of planning!

Arriva 142 to First 143

My Arriva Trains Wales class 142 has now been half converted to a First Great Western 143.   The final livery of the 143 will be the First Great Western 'Plain Blue Interim livery', this was applied to one of the class between the 'Local Bristol Livery' and the 'Local Lines Livery'   Only the first half of the unit is done at the moment and the other half will be done in three-four weeks. Delph coal drops - first delivery (well, almost)

Having brought the coal drop board home from the workshop, I've been able to make better progress with the stone retaining walls, in comfort! The brick pillars and stone retaining wall sections in between and at the ends are now ready to be coloured (not sure if to paint or try the crayon technique being used by Barrow Road on his excellent loco shed buildings). We know the destination - a number of loco kits are to be completed - but where are we starting from? Oaks Park DCC Sound Layout

A new start

After a unsucessful first attempt on DCC we decided to start again after one of the points gave way and running was poor. The new layout has been designed with electrofrog points and a completely new track layout. Taking things slow to make sure we get it right this time. The track's down and weathered and awaits ballasting. It's 7 foot long and about 1.5 foot wide. Control is the standard dynamics which was bought cheap at last year's Warley show.   Plans include more sound locos and fitting

Goods Shed - Third time lucky...

Hello   Finally! After a few revelations while studying the books I have come up with my final version of Highclere's goods shed. I also found out that I had got the doors totally wrong so they had to be changed too otherwise it would just bug me rotten. I have added a few bits and pieces inside it too just so if anyone decides to look too close as well as a porter taking a 5 min break (and he has still got his tie on!). The whole thing needs a bit of weathering but that will come in time...

Class 325 conversion

After being given a Hornby Networker shell by a mate on Friday, yesterday I got back to work on my 325 conversion.   First off I repeated the process removing the end, side and roof detail on the other 3 doner coaches. Making a start

Over in Wheeltappers there is a thread entitled "The first models I am going to build in 2010 are ....?" Having cunningly avoided making any resolutions in this regard before the turn of the year, I have now added a list of "promises" regarding my modelling intentions. Promise #5 on the list is to start a workbench blog to record progress - so here it is ! Not bad progress so far . I wonder if I can keep it up .

Hythe Parkway - Photoshoot preparations

Hi Guys,   Been up to the clubroom today to do some last minute pre photoshoot preparations.   We've now finished 9 of the cassettes, which will be enough for tomorrows photoshoot. Plus, I've taken the new 4-CEP up, which looks right at home in the platforms of Hythe.   The photographer, Ray Lightfoot, will be arriving at 10:00 tomorrow, so I'll have to be up early!   I'll also be taking photos of the layout (not to magazine standards I must admit!) to add to my collection and I'll post

O-Gauge:- Before work is started

Morning all,   Well, I got round to getting a photo of the layout as it is at present. The area with two tracks is where the fiddle yard will be, with the rest being scenery.       Where the scene break accross the track goes can be seen in roughly the middle of the board with the regtangle in nearest the camera being where a small scratchbuilt station will go.   What do people think of? Finally painting the EPB

The EPB has now had a coat of Railmatch etch primer over the brass bits, and a couple of coats of Halfords white aerosol primer. It's now been rubbed down to remove the usual blobs of glue etc that models seem to accumulate, and is awaiting another coat of primer.

Finally finished the containers

My shoebox of stuff to be painted seemed to be half full of painted but not lettered containers. A quick search of the internet showed that Cambridge Custom Transfers and Fox did suitable transfer sheets, which has let me finish them off. The scratchbuilt LMS FM container was finished off using a mix of Modelmaster and CCT transfers, all intended for other diagrams of FM container. The Cambrian type A containers, finished using CCT transfers (early livery) and Fox (late livery). There's a

update three - baseboard, track & loco

WEll, the baseboards are now complete (including removing about 25mm off each end). I've taken the opportunity to make the 'end boards' high enough to take the scenic work. However, most of the last three days have been spent 'EM'-ing a Bachmann '08', using the 'Gibson' conversion kit and the instructions form the EMGS sheets. *Not* as straightforward as it seems.   The 'EM' instruction sheet is written for an earlier conversion lit (based - I think - round 'Ultrtascale' wheels.) An N-Gauge shelf...

Another day off...

Another week of long days, and I had another day off to play on the layout. Started this morning by fitting the point motors to the right board, then added the point controllers, and started the wiring. I'm getting better at wiring the controllers in, and managed to get the board wires done before lunch. Then put the layout back together, the right way up, and started checking for continuity between the boards. Managed to get myself completely confused with regard to what should be connected

Another mad-cap scheme?

Another mad-cap scheme... or the lure of the Judith Edge kit!   I've long held a fascination with parts of the Manchester Ship Canal railway, the stub at Ellesmere Port and the network around Trafford Park.
