Nothing to Buy! (The curse of modelling 'right now'?)

Tender for the 2-8-2 continued

Some progress on the tender. Basic chassis is soldered up and ready for pickups, dragbox and NEM pocket sorting.   I've also been detailing the body, adding wire handrails and brake handles. I've also added the brass strips on the top of the coal space and fixed in a section from a scrap tender to replace the broken corner of the top lip at the front of the coal space (see where I've sanded down etc in the second photo - the replacement bit is black plastic too)       I want to produce

Well, I believe many of you might know the Danish class EG 3100 goods engines, which basically are a Co'Co' variant of the German class 152 with additional 25 kV capability. These are now being repainted in the red DB Schenker livery - EG 3111 having been the first such engine to be spotted like that. There's a pair of photos of it on railcolor.net: Click and click.

Hi,   A run through of my Secound day (or first full day) of Work experience:   Got on the 7:15 train again, then went to the depot and got my boiler suit on. Update - 18 days left and a bit more progress.   I have constructed the base for the wall on the backscene and also the base of the road bridge which will act as the scenic break to said fiddle yard. The wall (as in the previous mock ups) is pre-attached to the backscene as will be the station building modelled in relief. Gloucester Road - some progress

Its been awhile since I have made any updates, and here is one reason:   Chloe an Australian Cattle dog, texas heeler mix, she is nine months old and taking to training well, our three cats are less certain of the latest addition     The other reason is spring has sprung so work in the garden and cycling has started up, but purchased the "small corner shops" and started putting those together. Ready to Run?

Not yet but I did have a productive weekend wiring up track. All the dropper wires bar the vees and wing rails are now in place and soldered up. I used up some stranded wire that looked small enough without being silly with flexible insulation. The wire (pre-tinned) is passed through a hole drilled adjacent to the rail on the operator side. The wire is bent towards and then parallel with the rail, fluxed and then helod underneath the rail whilst the soldering iron (with a small pointy tip) is in

I finally tracked down some suitable square shank buffers for the 2-Bil. They are Slaters GWR coach buffers, and are sprung. Not cheap but very nice.       This has spurred me in to finishing this unit. The inner ends have been detailed with various bits of wire and plastic (not the best photo as the roofs aren't attached and the toilet fillers aren't properly attached yet),       The worst bit was doing the toilet filler pipes - I hate bending bits of wire in umpteen different direc

Having done the fitted version, I've also turned out a trio of the unfitted 21 ton mineral wagon.     This is a Chiver's MDV modified to remove the top doors (with a very sharp scalpel), and mounted on a Parkside chassis to represent the unfitted welded variety which nobody does a kit for. Even in 4mm scale there are plenty of common wagons that aren't available as kits.   It's riveted cousin is a straightforward build of the Parkside kit. Hi Guys,   Well as you may well know, I'm doing my Work Experience with Chiltern Railways at their Aylesbury Depot. I started it today (Monday 26th April) and will be there for 2 weeks until the 7th May. So here's a run through my first day under the 'employment' of Chiltern Railways:   My Work Experience placement starts at 8:00am, so I got the train from Great Missenden Station at 7:14am, with it getting in at 7:30am. After some consideration I have decided to withdraw Colwyn Bay Goods from the GJLC. Due to personal reasons, I can not complete the layout to a standard where I would be happy with by July.   Thanks to everyone who followed the thread and gave up time to help with research and construction advice. The layout will go into storage and I hope to have another attempt over the coming winter months.

The baseboards progress

The need was for super-light weight & to fit the boot of my small family car (Diatsu Sirion). With various off-cuts of MDF and plywood I came up with the estimate that a 'coffin' 3' x 1' x 1' would nicely slide into the boot. Thus was the size of the layout fixed Next was the basic construction. More Fruit and a Mink

A quick update to the Fruit D. I didn't like the thickness of the six plasticard steps so I've replaced them with some strip brass. A very fiddly job in this scale, but I think it makes a big difference.     I was also planning to put some electrical fittings on the end, but after a mock up with some wire I decided that as the relief of the ironwork on the ends of the van is way out of scale that this would only draw attention to that fact so I ditched the idea. Hello   I think I have quite a big problem with the layout now. I was expecting the ballast on the second baseboard to lighten when the glue dried but have realised that its not actually going to change colour at all!!       As you can see there is quite a difference in colour between the two baseboards and to say its a bit annoying is an understatement! but I know that it cannot go right all of the time. It now looks like I will have to chip all the ballast off and redo it as I canno

Having another go with the 3D modelling today and I've come up with a possible design for Module One: The 3 road track into the engine shed can be seen top left.   I might be able to start building this before the exhibition next weekend.   Any ideas or suggestions?
