Alas, not a class 37, but a shiny 70804 looking rather super. Some recent pictures taken in simply glorious light.

Pedant mode on/ surely that is weed killer rather than railhead treatment?/pedant mode off.

Ed

refers to blazey(29) which confuses me more cos it's Falmouth

It is most definitely the Rail Head Treatment Train, Ed. The spray is probably because it's water-jetting.

Hi

It was SWMBO's birthday today....21 again!!!!!

She wanted to go swimming in the sea with horses......The chosen site was the beach by Longrock depot......

Armed with camera I was to record the event.....which I did but sneaked a furtive few pics of TRAINS as well.......

57602 & train was in the process of being serviced so I took advantage of taking pictures of it & it's blue stock as soon the livery will be history....

The whole train was blue livery except the last coach.....

Which was in the new green livery......

post-7844-0-95669300-1445024868_thumb.jpg

There was also a 'spare' green coach in the yard......

08641 was also in attendance but not being used........

These pictures came out quit well considering they were taken through a chainlink type wire fence......

And finally a picture of the real reason I was there......

Cheers

Seeing the pic of 08641 above rang a few bells from the past. It's been in the area a long time (at least 30+ years) and with the same name.

Now if you were around the morning before, 641 was used to bring the NR out of the station as the shed turn driver didn't have 57 knowledge.

The last brake coach is due back in green within 2 weeks so there will never be an all blue rake again as per previous posts around 2 weeks ago.

For those who follow such things, all our 57s except 604 now have their outer ploughs fitted at both ends. 4 has none at all since its bogie refurbishment. Here's hoping they see use...... . Happy Christmas !

With the supposed closure of the clay sidings at Lostwithiel, what will happen in the future when any RHTT or similar trains need stabling?  Sidings are already at a premium and trains already have to travel great distances just to runaround.  What happens when the Royal Train comes to the county as there are no cosy little disused branch lines or sidings to spend the night these days?

Hi Brian - the RHTT operates on a very tight diagram, with no time to recess anywhere, but it's short enough to go in any of the remaining sidings, should the need arise.

As regards the Royal Train, it would never have been put in the yard at Lostwithiel in the first place.

However it is always a good idea - well learned in certain other countries - to be very careful about ripping out intermediate sidings because then trains and particularly on track machines have much further to run to time squeezed overnight possessions.  I appreciate that Lostwithiel isn't very far from from Par but Par is a further west of the next available sidings to the east than Lostwithiel and I trust taht sort of thing has been taken into account?

As far as 'the Royal Train' is concerned unless something strange has happened in recent years Lostwithiel would never be considered as a stabling site, the only thing it offers is a saving of BTP boot leather and while some of them have long been keen on that idea the disadvantages of the location far outweigh that solitary advantage.  When we (BTP and myself) did a complete review of Devon & Cornwall potential stabling sights back in 1985 we didn't even give it a moment's consideration.

Thanks for the responses as I'm not exactly on the spot!,  I should have separated the questions as my enquiry was to where the Royal Train could be stabled these days, not necessarily at Loswith!  Wasn't the last time at Ponts Mill?

It's not uncommon for clouds to roll in as soon as I reach for my camera and so the disappearance of the sun during most of my time in Cornwall last week was no surprise! However...

A clay train at Golant has been on my hit list for some time. Having missed one back in April by minutes I took much greater care this time and was rewarded.

After a celebratory pint and sandwich in the Fishermans Arms I drove up to Ponts Mill for walk in the woods with the dog. I knew there was a 'full' due to go down to the docks but didn't take the thought seriously that I would be lucky enough to get a shot of this as well. However, having reached the Treffery Viaduct I found a tiny spot where there was some 3g and, sure enough, checking RTT I might be lucky. Half an hour later this was the result. What the photo doesn't reveal is that I was holding the camera one handed whilst with the other restraining our Jack Russell from eating another terrier which was passing at the crucial moment!

The RHTT was about all week. Just for the record here it is passing Crugwallins. Please note this was taken from private property with the owners permission.

A 'record' shot at Loswitheil of two things that will soon be gone. I'm hoping that I'll get another crack at this but it will be next September before I'm in Cornwall again.

Hope these shots are of interest,

Trevor.

It's a lesson that's never been lost on me, Mike, and one that I have been trying to press home on many, many occasions at many, many meetings. However, the final decision makers have made their mind up and Lostwithiel Down Sidings will almost certainly go. That's not to say that my efforts haven't been successful elsewhere.

Erm... Am I missing something or does that mean the engines on the clay trains will have to run round on the main line?
