Jock67B
Mike, Fantastic set of images, but I have to confess that I was so busy staring at 'Bermuda' and the 'Guardsman', drooling over what are possibly my two favourite steam loco classes which often stopped for water at the end of Kilmarnock platform after flogging up past your very realistic rendition of Dent and surroundings. Cracking propulsion method now, well done to you, and refreshments. Thanks for sharing the inspiration with us, I 'll be back for more in the morning, Kind regards, Jock.
67A
Hi guys, Just purchased the new Hornby R3323 Black 5, 44694 and was shocked to find the details pack no longer contains cylinder drain pipes or screw coupling and there is no holes in the cylinders to fit spare pipes either, disappointed. I do hope this is not a new trend for forthcoming models. I have messaged Hornby and await a reply.
92220
Hi Mike, I didn't think the Black 5 ever had those - I may be wrong. Did Hornby update the Black 5 to include the drain cocks? But the Brassmasters detailing kit includes them and you have to drill holes to locate them. They do sell the cylinder drain cocks separately if you don't want to do the entire kit. As always, watching Dent with huge admiration. Best wishes, Iain
67A
I'll check on that Iain, if you are correct then I'm in for egg on the face from Hornby eh! I must admit I was surprised nothing seemed to be improved on this model since the last release. I've never bought any brassmaster's kits but now I'm getting close to the layout being 'technically' finished I have been turning my attention to more detailing jobs so may just see what's out there, thanks. They do sell the cylinder drain cocks separately if you don't want to do the entire kit. The one I got a few years ago didn't have them. I'm guessing that they were left out on purpose to let it get around tight curves. I didn't expect detail packs at the time so thought nothing of it and in any case probably didn't know they were supposed to be there then. It was the first model I'd bought since a bit of messing around as a kid, I just thought "Wow, these look more detailed than I remember" when I decided just to have a poke in a model shop. That eventually led to deciding to try to build a layout.

More work for me to do then on 6 of the things, very strange how that fact slipped by me considering I have been systematically detailing over the past few months. Live & Learn eh! Hi all, Working on my Replica Powered Chassis conversion to suit a Mk1 BG, pics later - I hope!
67A
Hi all, Well I failed to get very far with my chassis conversion so that will have to wait for another day. Here is the latest addition to the roster... The latest release of the Hornby Black 5, I was hoping for an updated model but sadly its simply a re-numbering job, nice though!

Popular Post 67A
A selection of photos to keep you all happy! The Class 5 has recently received a General Repair at Derby Loco' Work's and having been returned to its home depot its been charged with a lightly loaded local stopper which includes 3 milk tanks returning empty to the Express Dairy' sidings at Appleby. 44694 approaches the station stop. The driver is around the far side checking for hot-boxes and any other potential problems. Following the drivers return to the cab an English Electric Type 4 D210 'Empress of Britain' bursts out of Rise Hill tunnel and into the station with a southbound oil working. All 200 plus panes of glass in the station building are rattling with the passing of the Type 4! General views of the Type 4 running through the Dent landscape. Thats it for now guys.

JZ
With regards to the look of the Black 5, cutting back the the front of the bogie and replacing the wheels with Gibsons, makes a huge improvement. I find the Hornby wheels look too 'fat'. Similarly, I did similar work on my 8F.
RMweb Premium Clive Mortimore Posted March 20, 2016 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 20, 2016 Hi Mike Is the first tank wagon in the train carrying diesel? I hope so because it is a class A tank and even when empty should have barrier wagons for and aft. If it has diesel in it then that is OK because diesel is a class B fuel but because it is clean it can be carried in class A tanks. A practice only done after the introduction of the 45 ton GLW tank wagons.

Hi Clive, The story goes - the guard was looking for his oil train in the yard, came across this one and thought "DIESEL-DO" ! Alternatively - I forgot!

60091
Hi Mike More great photos... the Class 40 on tanks, passing the milk tanks at the rear of the local stopping service, gets my vote this time! Cheers Alan
67A
Hi all, Just a quick mention that following Jules' info above on the bogie wheels I have just received 10 No. to begin the ongoing conversion work. First of all they will need painting which I hope to do tomorrow.
67A
Hi all, Well I've had a very busy Easter beavering away in the den, the whole time has been spent detailing so no real photos of trains running this time guys. Firstly following Jules input I ordered 10 sets of Alan Gibson bogie wheels which will convert 5 Black 5's (who's now got 6! ) The new and the old with Hornby bogie wheels still fitted. The originals on the left and the Gibsons on the right, big difference! I can see this costing me a fortune, the 8F' has the same and no doubt I'll look at others and think??? - thanks Jules!
67A
Part 2... Next I tacked a long awaited project, this stuff has been knocking around for ages so it was about time it got used. Langley Models produce a fantastic range of white metal detail castings and here are some electric motors I pre-painted ready to fit. Engine an air tank and a winch Two lot's of drag shovel buckets etc. First lot of shovel buckets loaded up onto timber skids and chained down Second lot of loaded buckets Engine, winch and air tanks on skids and roped down
67A
Part 3... Again I have had these 'Weltrol' wagons for years and never really got around to putting much on them... I picked 4 of these drums up on Friday and made two sets of skids to hold a pair of drums on each wagon and chained them down Obviously the drums required a little work to get rid of the plastic look Both these loads have been around for a while but I finally got around to making a pair of skids and chaining them down too. It all helps add to the illusion!
67A
On Friday night my mate Andy brought round a stranger in the camp! The stationary boiler BTH Type 1 has escaped! Jumping several decades a Freightliner 66' looks at home on Dent. Andy also gifted to me this unusual Class 24 in two-tone green, a fact I disputed ever since Bachmann brought it out several years ago, however some time later I found a black & white photo I TOOK! of this loco just north of Carlisle in two-tone green - what can I say. Still some work to do on it before entering service. Here it is That's it guys
