Accurascale Class 55 Deltic - 4mm scale

Just popped by Accurascale Deltic cherry having seen my first example ‘in the flesh’ as it were on the Locomotion stand at the Bristol show.

Got to say photo’s dont really do it justice  - the finesse is extraordinary and the shape is absolutely spot on. This model is going to show up how the Bachmann version doesn’t quite get the nose right and I think the two versions will not sit comfortably side by side. A personal choice I know but its the same for me as with the Dapol verses the Heljan Western, one makes the other look like it is a different class when they are seen together. Perversely I think the Heljan DP2 will fit in ok - I know they alterered the nose to get the ride height but I like the way they did the windscreen and Accurascale have done similar. The Bachmann version looks like it is squinting by comparison if you see what I mean.

The Locomotion version has clearly had a hard life (see the bent lamp iron and mis fitting top grab rail) and my photos through glass with a phone obviously are pretty poor but I share them here anyway.

Very excited for when these properly arrive!

I always thought that was how it was supposed to look before EE got the real thing all wrong! I had one of those - want to hear a REAL travesty?............the chassis is under my first scratch-built 18000 !! (CJL)

An article in the January 1966 Railway Modeller described the construction of a Brush Type 4 in plasticard powered by an HD Deltic chassis - the builder had re-drilled the outer axle bearings to stretch the bogie wheelbase, as well as extending the chassis overall, and shaped the roof by heating the plasticard over a wooden former. It was a remarkable effort by a clearly talented modeller which looked way ahead of its time.

But, back on topic......not so long ago it wasn't easy to even find photos of D9010 in green with BR arrow logos - and now, here comes an RTR model!

I've succumbed again and ordered  55002 with sound from the Locomotion stand at the Bristol show today.

Don't know why I need another Deltic but just wanted it.

I managed to pay up front as well so now I don't have to worry about paying for it when it comes.

D9002 does look nice up close.

Just read the review in Hornby Magazine……yeah well not too bad really 😆

Cannot wait to get my sticky paws on mine.

Would that be a pre-view model or are the Deltics read for distribution?

Hi @scots region,

The models reviewed in Hornby mag are the full fat production models. We fly a couple of each livery for review/product photography and final checks ahead of arrival.

Cheers!

If they're 'the full fat production models', does that mean they've already arrived ...... ???

Al.

Fran said above they fly a few in for checking and publicity purposes while the ones for sale make their way by boat - well worth waiting for - got my rake of MK1s all ready!

Exactly that, we always fly in a few of each SKU for 'final' checks, photography and reviews, the two container loads are due to dock in a few short weeks!

Not sure you can call them short? I suspect it will drag!

As long as they dont dock on a 'short week" and get stuck in a bank holiday customs check backlog....!

Out of interest is the entire batch landing in the UK or some going to Ireland to fulfill EU and worldwide orders?

Ports only shut Xmas day every other bank holiday is a normal day, as soon as it docks the clock is ticking

It will land, split for EU orders, and the bulk head onward to our new distribution centre outside Birmingham, the balance to our warehouse in Dublin.

I think I’m correct in saying that this is a pre-production model, and not one of the final ones.  Is that right Fran?

Three posts stating that these are the final production models yet their status is still queried.

Not sure what point you are making, or you think you are making, but I stand by my comment that the loco pictured is presumably a pre-production model, mainly due to the hand rails on the front being of the more prominent nature of the pre-production models.  No reference was made to the loco pictured by Accurascale, simply to the fact that review locos have been flown over.  Or, to put it more succinctly, wind your neck in ;-)

Aww, you couldn’t by any chance fly mine in, could you? Pleeease? 😇

In all seriousness though, it’s been interesting seeing how the models have been developed and manufactured and I look forward to mine landing and being delivered. I shall treat mesen to a Hornby mag this weekend! Who needs Tractor porn anyway? At least for now…..

A little unfair Mike, as Hornby Magazine and Hornby are quite separate entities, and unrelated in every way. Key Publishing have a licence agreement to use 'Hornby' as the title; a legacy (I believe) from Ian Allen days...

The Hornby mag examples being production versions dare I ask if the green top handrail above the headcode panel on D9013 has a prototype reference?

Interestingly on the accurascale website the CAD has green but the pre-production is yellow.
