The Ford Granada and Citroen CX (and a BMW 5 series I seem to remember) used the TRX tyres, were the TDX unique to the MG range?

Any information on the differences between them?

Sadly I can't help with the difference between TRX and TDX but I know the BMW 6-series also came with TR wheels (not surprising, given that it shared it's running gear with the 5-series).  I think early Jaguar XJ40s also came with metric wheels.  From memory the Ferrari 308 (or, possibly 328) was offered with the choice of conventional Pirelli tyres or Michelin TRX equipment; the difference in rubber necesitated different suspension settings so you couldn't just exchange one type for the other and expect the car to feel right (or so the theory goes, I wonder if it actually makes much difference).

Not put any mini pics up for a while, done a few subtle changes on both of them

swapped the scuttle grille/side indicator holder for chrome ‘unbranded’ type rather than the ‘cooper S’ type as the car is really a standard car

also put some Union Jack stickers on the rear lights of both cars

ive ended up buying another mini for £200 that I’ve got to collect the week after next, not decided what to do with it yet as it has lots of useful bits that will fit in the convertible as it’s the same colour and has an aero body kit, also has good tyres, full leather trim etc so I may strip it, if it’s not in too bad condition I may well see about getting it MOT’d and sell on after I’ve swapped the body kit over to the convertible

My neighbour has just bought an 02 plate 1.8 litre Audi TT which I've just been round to have a butcher's at - I was gobsmacked at how nice a condition it's in for a seventeen year old car! There's barely a mark on it anywhere, it's done 130k miles, has full history from new, no issues whatsoever and all for £1,300. The black paintwork still looks fresh and the deep red leather interior is only slightly patinated. From the outside, if you took the number plates off you'd think it was only a year or two old. Will grab some pics later.

My mate Jon nipped round this afternoon with his newly acquired 02 plate Rover 75 which is in remarkable condition for its age - 117k miles, 2.0 diesel auto, rare black on black, ex dealer demo car, full history from new and everything works a treat...

Been owned my an owner's club member sticker in back window,  very nice.

I wonder of those things over the windows stop them rattling/creaking  my ZT does unless the BMW type seals are soaked in a German product called gummy pledge from time to time

I took them to be water deflectors? I have an 07 Mondeo (its a posh imported car here...)  I wish I had them on it cos any water runs straight  along  the windscreen and into the drivers and passengers windows, half of which blows into our faces and the other half  pours down onto the arm rest and soaks the power window switches...

I have to make sure I have the windows shut before working the windscreen washers or else I get a face full of windscreen wash which really stings the eyes...

Don’t worry, so does the L322 Range Rover, and the window switch panel it falls on catches the puddle very neatly!!!

Cooper S booked in for a week on Monday for its supercharger service at the local mini specialist Lohen

got to rearrange insurance on it once it’s done as it’s also having a stage 2 superchip bluefin installed as well as an 11% smaller pulley on the supercharger, that combined with the exhaust and induction kit should push it to around 220-240bhp so my standard insurance policy won’t cover the extra mods

getting it rolling roaded while it’s there to see what power it’s putting out once it’s modded, watch this space

Not only will it be interesting to see if the BHP meets the estimate, but also the increase to the premium.......hopefully not too much!

reinsured the cars with adrian flux this afternoon and got a pleasant  surprise to be honest!

originally called them to just insure the cooper s from this monday with all the mods declared, was going to take it off my multi car policy and do a stand alone one for it as i know aviva wouldn’t insure it with the mods, anyway what i didnt realise was the multicar policy was due to run out next month anyway so they gave me a quote for all 3 cars which came back at £70 less than i’m paying now with less excess and protected no claims bonus on all 3 cars and thats with all the new (as yet to be fitted until monday) mods declared

as its just over 5 weeks until the aviva policy runs out they have set it so the cooper will start on monday and the other 2 cars will start mid november but all will have the same mid november renewal next year, and fair do’s to aviva when i explained that the cooper would need to be taken off as of monday and the policy will need to finish a week earlier than expected they said they would waive the ‘admin fee’ for cancelling each of the policies and i’d only have to pay one £38 fee for the 3 which i think is reasonable as it should be £60+

and as i did it through topcashback i will get £40 cashback too which covers the admin fee nicely

roll on monday

That’s really good news, well done.....I have big doubts about these “multi car” policies as every time I have had quotes it either comes out more or very slightly less but the annoying thing is they tie you into that company for all the vehicles and it’s awkward when they need to be re-insures at different times, awkward.

Well the one day job doing the supercharger has now stretched out to four due to other issues!

nothing TOO major but bumped the price up for the job, first up the radiator had a hole in it and the slam panel surround was damaged beyond repair so much so all that was holding the radiator in place was the pipes, was quoted £450 by the garage who use OEM parts, I got a rad from a motor factors and slam panel from a scrappy for £90 the lot!

The Belt tensioner was seized so doing very little that’s had a new piece fitted

2 studs snapped when removing a pulley so had to be drilled out and tapped

A Vacuum pipe was missing on supercharger so was venting to atmosphere

A loose pipe on intercooler

but to top it off I’d asked the garage to investigate the poor cabin heating, they have obviously drained it to fit a new radiator and refilled etc, checked for air locks and now there is no cabin heat and the car is overheating so that’s going to have to be looked at today before I can get it back, unfortunatly they also need the courtesy car back at 08:00 so I’ll have to sit and wait while they diagnose and possibly repair it, personally I think someone in the past has run some radiator seal through the system and it’s gunked up the heater matrix or heat exchange

then to top it off my wife’s Nissan Murano has had to go in for a grinding noise to be investigated and the front wheel bearing and abs sensor have gone on it so that’s also up on the ramp waiting for parts at a local garage, I should get that back later today though

and as a final kick in the balls the courtesy car I got from the mini specialist has had one of the chrome headlight rings go missing overnight while parked up near the station and yesterday I hit a pothole in it while driving down to them with some parts and burst the tyre so I’ve got to pay for that too!

this car better last me a few more years after this weeks shenanigans

(oh and the handbrake cable snapped on the convertible mini too!)

I wouldn’t bother doing the Lottery this weekend......:D

did it last night, one number!

turns out the heater matrix is blocked, another £60 plus 2 hours labour to shell out!

they can’t do it until next Wednesday now so I’ve left it there and am currently enjoying a bus ride to Stafford to get the train back to crewe, just hope the Murano is done today or I’m knackered for a car for the rest of the week!

Thank god I had a huge tax rebate this month

My scooby was the same when I bought it, dealer said he's fitted an new radiator, I think he tried K seal first, or maybe the previous owner had. Anyway I have managed to clear out the gunk by reverse flushing the heater circuit repeatedly.

Just as a matter of interest, is there a recognised definition as to when a car becomes a "Modern Classic"?

Is it as soon as it goes out of production, five years after that. Ten? Twenty?

My own thought is that perhaps it's when their numbers have dwindled sufficiently to make it worthy of comment when I see one on the road....

But that would rather exclude MGBs, wouldn't it.:jester:
