I wouldn't bet on it

I'd say I know Ben (rather than "the bloke") and his writing well enough.

Just pointing out you were making bigger howlers whilst castigating him for an incorrect date. But that's the internet.

The grammar police will be very busy on this site if all howlers pointed out.

But point taken. Time will tell on the 47 tho

I know I have said it before, but it is such a shame that Heljan seem to have modelled a single cab front spacing for the foot steps, and it is, in my opinion, the less common spacing. Gives the face a pinched look.

I like Ben Jones , he comes across well.
I still think the shape of the Bachmann one is better. It seems to be a bit tall this one , for some reason it reminds me more of this .

As an aside, I think the cabs on Falcon may have been based on Class 31. Imagine one without the connecting doors and with 2 cab windscreens. I remember an article back in the 80s where somebody kitbashed it from a class 31. It looked good too.

TBH the TMC Ltd edition suits my needs so I am sure that I can live with any issues to get something I would like. I don’t count the rivets and like D15 it looks fine on the layout so that is one easily please person 🤦‍♂️🤣👍

I would guess that the Model Rail/Heljan 48 should be here at roughly the same time as the 47s. Does anyone (MR subscribers, for example) have any news?

Yes, I received my latest edition of Model Rail through the post today and saw the Class 48 was available to order.

Have placed my order over the phone for D1702 (4820) In BR Two-tone Green with SYP.

Regular price is £230.00 though subscribers only pay £207.00

All paid for and awaiting delivery!

I’ve never met an actual rivet counter ( must be a steam thing ), but I do ask the basic shape resembles what the prototype is and not a potato - that’s the basis of a model , something that looks like a full size one , but in miniature

These days I tend to associate rivet counting with those who ignore the shape but gush about all of the rivets and fine details that are applied to the otherwise rather Le Bonnotte offering we seem to get from certain stables.

I wonder how they manage when a particular item of rolling stock is of all-welded construction?

I’ve taken a punt on the Porterbrook 47 from Key Publishing, always liked the livery. Will be my first Heljan 47. Hoping it blends nicely with the Bachmann ones.

Having owned several of the original 47s, I’ve been put off the brand indefinitely , sadly .

I did see a lot of the mixed reviews about them which put me off, but having since purchased various 33’s, 58’s and 86’s, I have confidence.

Agree - mechanically apart from an early Hymek with the brass wheelset and the well known 'floppy NEM mount'  everything I have had from Heljan up to and including the class 45 has been bombproof reliable, smooth as silk and will pull anything you hang behind it as if it wasnt there. If Heljan could just pay more attention to body shape they'd be leading the field now in the 4mm D&E sector.

I’m yet to take a punt on one yet, however there are a few of the modern image ones I like but I’ll have to see how they fit in with other models. There just appears to be something off about the Heljan model I can’t quite put my finger on it.

All of my Heljan locos have been fine including my one tubby duff which was bought second hand. Until the Accurascale 37s with sound replaced it it was the loco of choice to haul the track cleaning wagon around the layout.
